Maria was the instructor and she was great. It was my first time and I went with a date. Reason for only four stars is because I was under the understanding that I didn’t have to rotate away from my date, but yet we ended up rotating with other people. I hardly spent much time with my date. Thats great if you’re there as a single person, but as a couple who want to dance and practice with only your own partner, its not cool.

This review is way overdue. Absolutely great classes with an amazing, contagiously positively energetic Maria Torres. She’s fun, she’s great and she corrects you because she cares. I tried other schools as well, but keep coming back, just because of the atmosphere and the teaching style. Good ratio on men/​women, so you can practice and master what you learn.
Thumbs up, highly recommend it.

I wish I could give them a million stars. Absolutely one of the best salsa schools to take classes. I mean, why wouldn’t you, want to learn from the King and his Queen. Maria creates this welcoming warm environment where not only is she your instructor but almost like your mom and cares that you not only learn but enjoy her class. With options of both men and women on how to dance from your heart with such flavor, you really can’t beat that with their prices. $ 20 for 2 ½ hours, now that’s a great deal!
I recommend this school to everyone! The Torres family has been dancing for over 30 years and are LEGENDARY!

Went to the Sunday 3−5pm Shine-​based class. $ 20 for a drop-​in class not $ 15 as I think I read in a review. Unlike most of the rest of the salsa community, these classes start on time, FYI.
Eddie Torres, World-​Class instructor and innovator, introduced me to many incredible shines, and he did so patiently! Eddie Torres Jr. — who was KILLING IT (if you haven’t seen him dance, prepared to be amazed) — and Maria Torres were also leading at the front of the class. Everyone in the class was having a great time and getting into their styling =)
All members of Torres family have been warm and welcoming — great people to be around regardless their star status =) Eddie Torres Jr. suggested I come to the monday night partner-​based class after talking to him.
–1 star because on the website it doesn’t indicate what classes are shine-​based and what are partner-​based. The room gets HOT — think hot yoga. Also, the size of the classes doesn’t allow for personal critiquing.

This is a lot of fun, and flexible enough to fit your schedule. I took Maria’s beginner class. She’s got great energy and makes everyone feel welcome. The class is going to be a mix of first timers and people that have been dancing with her for years. Its not a class where you go in and learn basics, she basically takes the full time to choreograph a routine for you, so you really do spend the whole time dancing which is great! If you’re a newbie like me you’ll learn a lot and if you already have some skills, you at least walkout with a new routine.

I took a beginner class with eddie’s wife «Maria». She was very pleasant and the overall vibe in the class was friendly.
Unfortunately it was too crowded and there were issues with hearing maria’s voice. I wish she could mic up for the lesson.
Maria went through the moves too quickly IMO. I learned something so it wasn’t a total waste but if I hadn’t taken lessons before I would have been completely lost.
Everyone should take a TORRES class eddie or maria. You decide it if works.

This class is absolutely fun and accessible to every dancer from beginning to intermediate. Maria ! Maria is the best: funny, affable and a great teacher. The class starts with footwork and brick by brick you eventually move to more complicated steps and turns. But, you dance with other students, Maria and most important you keep moving. During the break and after the class was finished Maria slowed the steps for me and the turns. This was great because I was a bit discombobulated at times.
The one class for 15.00 is worth it but the 10 classes for 130.00 is wonderful. I wonder where I’ll be in a month or two dance wise. Social anyone?

Yesterday, I went to a basic salsa class. It was taught by Maria Torres (her esposo Eddie teaches the advanced classes). You can tell that she enjoys what she does. She’s very charismatic and has a sarcastic sense of humor. During the break, she offered the class cookies. She is fairly attractive for her age. Some of the steps were complicated. However, she did her best to explain them. If this was easy, everyone would be dancing salsa.
Unfortunately for me, a single guy, there was a two to one ratio of males to females. The only two attractive women in the class both had boyfriends/​husbands. Nevertheless, this class is for learning salsa, not meeting women. If you want to learn salsa, take her class (and once you’ve mastered the basics, Maria will recommend that you take Eddie’s class). If you just want to meet women, take the salsa class at the Iguana Lounge that is taught by Kevin Lee (which is literally next door).

Okay I need to begin by saying this was my FIRST EVER time taking a formal salsa class and was a bit intimidated. I showed up in converse, while most students wore the real deal salsa heals. I have to say this place was a GREAT place to begin learning the art of salsa. The instructor, Maria, made the environment very comfortable for «new bloods» as she called us. She teaches a lot of steps and makes it very fun. Everyone that went was friendly and no one was judgmental. The class I went to was on a Friday night from 7:30−10pm. It was $ 15 for 2.5 hours which I think is outstanding! And if you can’t get there when class starts its okay to walk in a little late. The important thing is to get your salsa on! The first part of class is learning steps and the 2^nd part of class is partner work. You rotate so don’t worry about having to bring a partner. And ladies get this, there were too many men! They had to rotate in!

This is the best place in New York City to learn New York-​style salsa. Maria Torres is a wonderfully patient instructor for beginners and the classes are great fun. Eddie Torres, Maria’s husband, teaches the more advanced classes. He is an incredible dancer and is known as the, Mambo King (you’ll see why when you take his class). Also, these two are among the nicest people you will ever meet. They are very patient, approachable, and down to Earth. You can see they love what they do.
Pretty much everyone (social dancers, performers, and instructors) in the New York dance scene have taken classes with Eddie or Maria at one time. They have been teaching for a long time. I’m guessing they’ve been teaching longer than most, if not all, the other New York-​style Salsa instructors out there.
The classes here begin at 7:30’ish pm and end at 10 pm. The cost of a class is $ 15. — this is the best deal you will find in NYC. You will meet nice people and make new friends. You will also sweat your booty off so you may want to bring a change of clothes.

The classes are so much fun! Today was my first time taking the class and I loved it! Make sure you dress light because you will sweat a hell of a lot! Just do your self a favor and take a class you won’t regret it :)

Let me start by by acknowledging that this was my first Dance/​Salsa lesson so I don’t really have any place else to compare this to. I went to a Friday evening class at 7:30 P.M. The class is about 2.5 hours long and costs $ 15, right off the bat I consider this a bargain for NYC. The first hour of the class is foot work, going over basic steps and then eventually incorporating all of the steps. Then there is a short break after which you partner up with others in the class and rotate for the last hour or so. The instructor «Maria» was pleasant and made everyone feel comfortable. She even spent extra time with the ultra beginners like myself who have never had a Salsa lesson. All and all I enjoyed myself and I definitely learned something. I would recommend this place based on my experience.

I went to the intermediate class last week, because they had the wrong schedule online, I belong in the beginners class
This class with Eddie Torres was amazing I mean I was stumbling but one day i need to get to that level
luckily they didnt charge me for the one hour I stayed there because they had the wrong info online, the beginners class was a little slow because some people were complete beginners but Im willing to stay just to be able to advance to intermediate
just remember to email or call them to make sure you go on the right day because I just checked and they still haven’t updated their schedule

Eddie and Maria are the best. There are others who are already salsa icons, like Frankie Martinez, but at one point or another they’ve all taken Eddie’s classes. They’re both excellent teachers, warm and inviting. Eager to share all they know. Without attitude.
It can be a bit hectic sometimes, but worth it.
Wish they were here in Vegas now so I can continue with them.

I really enjoy taking classes with Eddie Torres and his wife Maria. Classes are held Monday through Thursday, as well as Sunday. Monday night is the hardest (Eddie teaches as he does on Wednesday); Tuesdays and Thursdays, Maria teaches and breaks down what Eddie did.
If you’re new to salsa, Eddie Torres is the creator of salsa «on 2», also known as «New York salsa»…go to LA, Miami, or Puerto Rico and they’re doing «on 1».
Classes begin with shines and then move on to partner work. Everyone in the classes is very nice and excited to dance… lots of smiles and fun all around!
This studio is different in that classes are held at different studios on different nights (check their website). You also don’t have to buy some crazy package or commit to a particular night for a length of time… you pay as you go; $ 15 a class which is cheaper than most places… oh, and did I mention it’s a 2 hour class?!? :)
Don’t expect personalized instruction or handholding… there are 40 people (at least) in a class which means, if you don’t have your technique down, you’re not going to get it. Yeah, you may have fun, but you won’t know the steps exactly, which is why I think this studio is great for those who have a bit of technique under their belts… come here to work it out and dance.
Students usually go out to a club after and dance. :)
