I’ve been getting colognes and perfumes from Essential Products for years. I placed an order on August 1, 2009 and my check has not been deposited nor any reply. After looking at the first review and seeing the photo of the owner and of the store, I have the unhappy feeling he is no longer in business. I always wanted to visit this place but never got around to it. It breaks my heart to have the feeling that he is gone. Anybody able to verify this? Send me an e-mail at if you read this. thank you.

File under: Old NYC If you’re looking for one of the last authentic NYC adventures, look no further. Essential Products makes and sells colognes and perfumes that mimic all your favorite brands. The proprietor is an old cantankerous(but outgoing) Brooklyn Dodgers fan. He is more than eager to show you some of the thousands of letters he’s received from celebrities endorsing his copycat concoctions. I think I’ve walked by this storefront two dozen times without going inside. The proprietor of this shop owns the building itself, which explains in part how it has stayed in business since 1920. Despite the fact that it’s wedged between countless monolithic financial institutions, it somehow feels more like a very old magic store out in the depths of Brooklyn. The experience is well worth your time, and to my untrained nose the cologne I bought for $ 11 ain’t bad either.
