Whoever said the matcha latte was good here was dead wrong; waste of $ 5 for a medium cup. I’m sure the coffee is decent here but the matcha latte wasn’t.

I asked for a bit of milk in my espresso and the barista says«it’ll be $ 3 extra». REALLY? After I paid $ 3+$ 1 tip? Unbelievable.

I love the location up on Lex near 53. This one, here, has a pretty rude blonde barista/manager. After two instances of her attitude, I’m never going back. It’s a pretty tiny location but I literally stopped there on a coffee break. My annoyance did end up leading me to Joe’s coffee(which has donuts from Doughnut Plant!) and Grumpy’s(which I don’t love).

This place is right on my way to work, so finally I decided to pop in and see what it was all about. I’m glad I did, but at least for me, It’s definitely a one-time try. Overall, super clean and trendy design. There’s indoor seating, but definitely the type of place to grab-and-go. For a weekday morning, it was of course pretty busy. Even though that was the case, the staff worked really fast. The baristas working at this location were awesome and even hilarious. Even though it was packed with hustling professionals, they still made it fun. Actually carried on basic conversation instead of the protocol«what would you like? alright you’re order will be up soon. next.» This made it a lot more welcoming, for sure. I must say, this place is overpriced for just coffee. Their menu is pretty basic. They don’t have anything super special or different on their menu, besides the matcha latte. The pastries looked good, but again, quite steep $ for the quantity. If you’re not willing to spend nearly $ 5 on coffee, there’s many other coffee spots near by for cheaper.

Yep, I’ve definitely experienced much better — like Joe’s coffee and Café Grumpy at Grand Central — just around the corner. Coffee is way to overpriced(worse that the other two nearby options mentioned above), and what is even worse — their barista don’t know what they are doing… When I pay $ 5 for a cappuccino I expect a certain quality(certain amount and thickness of the foam). They are not at all selective about their baristas and seems like they don’t provide proper training as well. Pastry is OK, chocolate is good — but everything is super expensive. Not worth it.

If you have been ordering bitter, watery iced coffees from Starbucks, do yourself a favor and try a cold brew from FIKA. It’s slightly more expensive than Starbucks but more reasonable than other high-end coffee brewers. It’s sooooo super smooth and full-bodied. Barely even needs sugar. Just a splash of cream. I guzzled it faster than I’ve ever drank an iced coffee before. Can’t wait to go back and try their other drinks and pastries.

FIKA is my morning must before my long day at work. The coffee has a bolder taste; definitely not for anyone who prefers a lighter roast. It’s perfect with a light dash of cinnamon and a splash of milk. I don’t get food here often, but I like their almond croissants and their chocolates are delicious. I don’t find this coffee expensive. It’s way better quality than an equally priced cup at Starbucks and if you can’t taste the difference, you have no business spending more than $ 1 on your coffee. My only complaint is that sometimes they have issues with taking credit cards — they lose the signal for the processor or something and you have to pay cash but don’t find out until you’re already on line. I suppose that’s really my own fault for not having cash at all times, but still, inconvenient when you’re in a hurry.

Stopped in on a rainy morning before work. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. They have some unique options like chocolates and mini croissants, as well as a small dining menu. While I did not try the coffee, I was entirely disappointed by the quality of the matcha latte. I paid $ 5 for what tasted like lukewarm almond milk. Not a hint of matcha was to be found — I watched them make it and it looks like the latte consists of ½ tsp of light matcha mixed with steamed almond milk. The prices were above average — if I’m going to be paying $ 5 for a small drink it had better be amazing.

Every morning on my way to work, I stop at the Starbucks on 40th and Lex. A couple of days ago, I decided to briefly defy my loyalty to the green mermaid and gave Fika a try. I pass by it every morning and have always been curious about the very nice looking shop. The interior is beautifully decorated– a white and dark wood Scandinavian paradise(the chain is Swedish). Immediately when I walked in, the smell of chocolate croissants smacked me in the face. I had to hold myself back for the sake of my diet as I ordered nothing more than the usual iced coffee. The size seems a bit bigger than the equivalent Starbucks grande, but it was a little bit more expensive(not by much though). After a splash of skim, I gave it a taste, and was delighted by the flavor. Their iced coffee is more pleasant and, I find, much smoother. Didn’t even need sugar. I now stop into Fika every now and then for my morning coffee, and it is always great. A nice alternative to the rivals.

Lexington Avenue South, huh? And in both 10010 and 10168? Awesome, awesome. Stuck with the edibles, and the farmer’s cookie was fine.

My second stop in café tastings. Espresso shot is smooth and round with a bit of acidity that feels tangy than sour. If the review was solely based on the coffee beans, 4 stars all around. This is why I am giving them one less star: Matcha latte. Also pretty smooth but lacks the leafy flavor of Matcha tea… meaning it just tastes like milked down Matcha. Not recommend it. Go for their coffee drinks.

Even if you spend 10 times what others pay for their coffee, you’re still making money hand over fist on each cup. You can try and justify it all you want but you’re still robbing your customers blind and laughing all the way to the bank. Want to be transparent and informative? Tell us what your margins are. This place is a ripoff, plain and simple.

Stopped in about 7:15am. Got a latte. The girl was still setting up for the morning. No breakfast pastries up yet, except plain croissants, so I got a farmers cookie. No idea what a farmers cookie is. but I thought I would try it. 3 people came in after me. and the cashier saw them and got really rushed and stressed. I think too many people for her and she still had to set up. Maybe they need an extra hand in the morning. feel bad for staff. Coffee was good. A little week on the espresso, but had a nice earthy, morning flavor to it. Good to sip over reading the newspaper, kind of taste. Shop is pretty. Chocolates look amazing. Black to go cups were are kind of neat. And absolutely everything is banded in this place. Which is okay… I just think its funny that even the napkins are marked. Going with 4 for coffee taste. But they really need a second person to help in the morning. Or start earlier so everything is set up before the doors open.

I love the coffee, here. Its got a great taste, very refreshing. But there’s so much wrong with the attitude of the folks behind the counter. You have the girl who’s hair messed up the same way everyday, threatening to fall into my coffee. Its not the customers fault your coffee shop is crowded, and you can handle it. Long waits if you go in for 9am coffee. And they don’t care if they make mistakes. I was given a soy latte instead of my regular latte, and no apologies or offer to replace it. Pissing off, especially when i waited 15 minutes for it.

Fika is a great place for chocolates and coffee(although I haven’t tried their coffee yet,) must say that, their truffles are silky, smooth and delisciou flavors and textures. After being burned out of a relationship six months ago, my pharmacy manager surprised me with a small but fancy box with six truffles. Dark chocolate is my favorite. She really made my day. It’s reasonably priced, and suitable for Valentines Day. Next time, I will try their coffee. I highly recommend the dark chocolate truffles.

Just when you think coffee can’t possibly get much more expensive than Starbucks Fika comes around and you find that there’s no price high enough to get you to stop buying coffee when you don’t want to leave your building. Their coffee is good but the cups are so minuscule they’re laughable.

I work in the Grand Central area where there is a general dearth of good food and drink options. I was really happy to recently realize that there was a Fika around the corner in Lex where I never really went much. Their coffee is the jam. The only criticism is that u wish it were a bit cheaper but I manage that by brining a two cup container there in the morning to fill for the price of a small(no matter what size). Pretty awesome. Their food looks good too but I’ve never tried it.

I’m going to pretend like you are having a conversation with a trader on wall street.(I think I already said too many words. damnit) *sips red bull* okay, ready. — Iced Coffee — Mild flavor, slightly bitter, even slighter(mother f*****g –trader) acidity — Chocolates — bleeping amazing. okay, weird bleep flavors, that, if you are into that(which I am… weird flavors, that is), is exciting and ignites my curiosity. — Tried Hazelnut qunioa(damn. try it.) won an award last year at the intenational chocolate awards. Also, goat cheese(interesting — more of a cream based nougot with hard shell chocolate shell covered in salt). Won an award the year before. Needless to say, if you are a chocolate lover, a great place to be.($ 2 a piece) Go. or cutt your losses. *fist bump* peace

Recently opened in the Channing building Fika is a great addition to the neighborhood coffee scene. Friendly well lit with seating. Shelves are nicely stocked with chocolate, coffee and jams. Truffles, sandwiches, muffins, cinnamon buns, and cookies all look great. The coffee is excellent. 7th store and they are expanding. Service was friendly and efficient. Tried the cinnamon bun today and it is fantastic. Blows Starbucks away any day.

FIKA finally realizes that, apart from Gramercy, in Midtown there is a huge working crowd yearning for quality coffee AND chocolate HMMMMM
