Financier Patisserie

Sadly this location has closed. It’s another loss to the area. And I was so excited when I got a new job in the area! This location was small but they offered everything from the standard breakfast goods, pastries, macarons, coffee, and they had lunch options, whether it was a baguette sandwich or salad. I liked getting the coffee specialty drinks, which were actually reasonably priced. It never seemed to be crowded which is probably a sign of the closure to come.

for the quality of goods they offer, financier patisserie seems reasonably priced, although i would probably be less hesitant to purchase something if they moved their prices down by $ 1. that being said, i came in here one day and got a ham and swiss cheese sandwich for $ 7 and palmier cookies for $ 6, both of which were absolutely delicious, and the palmier cookies had happiness in every bite! i didn’t mind the price, but i personally think they should be lowered by $ 1 (i don’t think palmier cookies are worth $ 6, but $ 5 is reasonable). i overheard a cashier telling a woman next to me that her chai tea was ~$ 5, which i thought was ridiculous and extremely inflated. other than that, service here is very friendly, atmosphere is very cozy, and the place is always spotless whenever i come in.

I went here for lunch yesterday & although my friend was extremely disappointed their menu has changed I loved it. I got an order of potato leek soup & turkey sandwich. Both were great — although the potato leek soup could’ve used some black pepper.
I also got a madeleine which was light & fluffy, not too sweet. Since this is around the corner from my office I will be coming here a bit more. I only say a bit more vs a lot more b/​c my meal did wind up being $ 15 which is a bit much even if the sandwich is great.

Great place to get coffee or something to eat. The store is always spotless and the service is top notch. Employees are great here.

I started going here after I moved into the area. I was thrilled with my first latte from here, it was great!
The next four latte’s I had were burnt and bitter, they were barely drinkable.

Although I think I would need to visit couple more times and try other pastries and their coffee,
my first visit to this place was pretty good–
The pastries are delightful with various assortment of selections to choose from~
It’s also nice that they give a small madelline with your drink.
I’ve heard they are planning to accept mobile payment soon, which is exciting:)

Walk past this joint often but never entered, then was treated by a coworker to a pretty Galette Des Rois during King Cake season. Worth a stop if you’re in need of a long, bright place to stop and prefer not patronizing that coffee conglomerate across the way.

French Macarons. Need I say more?
Alright, real french macarons. Delicious, light and addictive. Pistachio is my favorite, but I am sure everyone will find their own flavor, there are many to choose from.
Caffè macchiato is delightful as well, and they do make it with soy if you ask.

Situated across from Pret, which I frequent, I finally decided to give this place a try.
I bought a turkey and gouda sandwich which was decent. The turkey tasted fresh and this was my first experience eating turkey with gouda, which I liked. I’ll probably come back to try some of their other sandwiches/​food eventually.
Cashiers were friendly and were pleasant in answering my questions about the pricing of some of their cakes.

When this place first opened up on Astor, I was smitten. It was charming, the employees were friendly, and I must have picked up every single delicious dessert they had to offer. I loved grabbing a seat in their little café and listening to classical music play on the speakers as I sipped my latte. Their coffees were extremely well-​priced too, and on top of that came with a free Financier mini! I wish I could say that I have loved this place ever since.
I feel like recently, their standard has really gone down. I still enjoy the desserts and coffee here, but the atmosphere has changed completely. The workers chat so much that I can barely get a word in to put in my order. The last time I went, they were playing loud hip hop music that made me cringe. And I never get a free financier with my coffee anymore, even though the workers are snacking on them in front of me. I don’t remember having to ask for one when this place first opened. And a friend of mine says that they give her two every time she comes here. I can’t tell if they are being blatantly inconsistent with their service or if I happened to come here on all the wrong days in the past few months. If the bad service continues, Financier may very well lose a customer, if not many.

Macarons: standard price of $ 2.50 and size of GINORMOUS. Great deal. Loved the chocolate, pistachio, and raspberry flavored ones. However, I’m not digging the coffee one at all. It’s too sweet and just… weird. Friendly staff. Good selection of sweets. No credit card minimum. Will be back.

I went twice this past week and I found the staff very helpful and nice both times! It was surprising. I never get nice staff. I was pleased.
Anyways, I came for the macarons! Yum! I love macarons and I like how nicely they’re packaged. So convenient to carry around and eat while going to classes and stuff. For the price, each one is about $ 1.30 and that’s not bad! I like.
I got the cappuccino one time — eh that was just okay. Had a weird after-​taste.
Place is REALLY warm. Too warm a bit. and there’s limited seating so hopefully you can find one. Also, no bathroom): oh well.

I had a lovely return visit to this location of Financier.
Staff was as equally nice and courteous as my last visit, but there was improvement in teamwork and filling my order. After confirmation that my order was to stay, I received my coffee éclair on a plate, my small café au lait with a complimentary financier on top, and two napkins (which I could have easily picked up at the milk station, but they saved me the couple of steps).
I enjoyed by book in the nicely lit space with no wifi distraction.

No complaints with the service, staff are friendly and they do smile unlike most shops in new york :/​

Ive only tried three things here and they are:
Coffee — Less bold than Starbucks, not sour, I like it, and their lids are cool — each one comes with a tiny financier cake
Macron — $ 2.50 for large macarons — (the small ones are sold in boxes). I had a large chocolate macron — A little too crispy, chewy for my taste, maybe I got an old one but this reminded me of eating a chewy caramel.
Financier — they’re small rectangular cakes kind of like a dense pound cake — moist, buttery, not too sweet, delicious.

I like this space because it’s nice and bright. My friend also pointed out that it has a little feeling of Laduree.
The coffee tastes a bit burnt. Boo.
The pistachio macaron, though, was one of the best I have had in a while.
I’ll be back!

I’ve been meaning t try Financier Patisserie, which has several shops dotting midtown and the downtown area however, there was never really any in the areas that I frequent.
Finally, walking by on my way to the wine warehouse, the shop caught my eye. I came in and looked over the several pastries available. It was Saturday and was pretty surprised at the limited selection of goodies.
Either the morning rush came and snatched up the cakes that usually dine bakeries or they’re still relatively new on the block, that they’re still working out the inventory.
I pored over the eclairs, mini chocolate mousses and tarts however settled on the St. Honore which I always wanted to try. It’s basically a light puff pastry with cream and caramelized sugar.
It was light and not too sweet and a satisfying snack for a summer afternoon.
Based on the website when I first previewed Financier Patisserie, it has the feel of an upscale confectionery store however, around the NYU area, it’s a laid back café were several single diners enjoyed their dessert and a good book.

Fine… So I only tried the mini financiers ($ 5 for a box of 15– totally affordable) and macarons ($ 2.25 each… doable). However, both were absolutely out of this world ridiculously delicious. I want to go back and try everything, EVERYTHING.
Stop judging me.

Okay, I’m about to rate a pastry shop in which I consumed no pastries. Go figure. But they sure looked tasty.
I stopped in here the night of a big snowstorm, hoping for a hot pick-​me-​up to drink. I ordered an espresso «for here», and then I watched my hot espresso dripping into a paper to-​go cup.
While we pause, let me offer a thought about this:
Espresso should never be served in a ‘to-​go’ cup. Espresso to-​go cups shouldn’t really exist. It doesn’t take long to drink one, the cups are usually too wide to keep the coffee hot and a nice crema on top, and it’s a waste of paper. If I were Italian, I would turn over in my grave, except I’m not Italian, and not yet deceased. If I want paper cups, I can go to Starbucks.
The story continues. I said nothing, but when the when the cashier saw that the barista was making it in a to-​go cup, she chided him and he said, «Oh, I’ll make it over, sorry about that.» When I insisted it was okay, no problem, I don’t want to waste paper or coffee, he gave me the extra shot and remade it into a to-​stay double, which I thought was charming and nice. You had to be there.
The service was friendly and the coffee good. I’m looking forward to trying some pastries next time.
