Christian Reyes and his team (Job number 802 141) did a fantastic job moving me a short distance to my new apartment. Not only were they very careful with all of my furniture, they completed the move in under 2 hours, which greatly exceeded my expectations. They were friendly, personable and a pleasure to work with. I would highly recommend Flat Rate, especially Christian and his team, to anyone else looking for an affordable, friendly, and skilled moving company.

Hamza, Muhammed and Ivan were my movers. They were great, helped me a lot and they knew what they were doing. Also they were very professional and there was no damages at all to my furniture. I would definitely recommend using flat rate moving to a friend.

My move occurred on Saturday June 4^th. The four movers showed an hour early without warning. No call beforehand. I was given the paper to sign, stating that a 15% tip was necessary, I had planned on giving more anyway, but the foreman (who was being called «Rambo») told me 20% tip was necessary and it had to be cash. Although they worked very quickly, packing and loading, they were extremely rough. I didn’t even realize until 3 days post move that they had broken my mirror, as it was hidden in the basement behind my television. They did not come with any tools and we had to unpack our own boxes we had packed to find them screwdrivers, allen keys and drills, necessary to take apart furniture that was too big to fit through doorways. There were times were they were just standing around, waiting for my fiancé to find them tools.
About halfway through the day, the foreman told me that 20% tip was customary, but due to the large amount of items left, I would have to give at least 30% or they wouldn’t continue the move. I begrudgingly agreed because I needed my items moved to the new location. The truck filled quickly and they said they were out of room. I explained the sales rep Larry Petrakakos knew my move would take at least two trips (the new location was less than a mile away in the same town) and was included in the price. Rambo flat out refused to continue the move and started packing up again unless I guaranteed them $ 800 cash, in addition to the $ 2,095 I paid for the move. He said he would have to be told it would take more than one trip and he didn’t have to do it, he could leave if I wanted. I didn’t have a plan B, I had no choice. They threatened to leave, so I said I’d pay it. I attempted to call my rep but I could not reach him, as it was late Saturday. The truck filled again as they had half the truck filled with empty boxes from the first run. I pointed out that the items that still needed to be moved were on my inventory list, BBQ grill, generator, bike and toolbox but they again refused to come back a third time. Rambo again started asking for more money or he wouldn’t come back for these items, I told him the banks were closed and $ 800 was almost 40% and that was it. When they finally brought the third load to the new house, they were angry and rude, they put everything in the garage, even though boxes were marked «bedroom» or «kitchen». He gave me the paperwork and said to sign as he spent too much time already and needed to leave, I couldn’t go through my items. I had four men, each over six feet tall, standing around me, demanding I sign the letter, I had no choice.
Later that day, as I attempted to unpack, I was shocked at the boxes. For example, I found a box packed with shoes, food, unwrapped vases and a coffeemaker. My clothes marked «master bedroom» were in the back of the garage. I have been digging out from this mess for two weeks. I felt that I was clearly taken advantage of but also backed into a corner. For lack of a better term, my items were held for ransom by this crew of movers, «give us more money or you don’t get your stuff». I needed my items moved, I have a car, I can’t transport a grill or a generator. At this point, I wouldn’t recommend this company to anyone, in fact I’d advise against it.
I contacted the company and after two weeks of back and forth they sent me this. «At $ 0.60 per pound at 200lbs (mirror and tote box) your total claim is $ 120.00. We understand there were extenuating circumstances with your move and as we appreciate your patronage, we are awarding courtesy compensation in the amount of $ 75.00. Accordingly, enclosed please find a check in the amount of $ 195.00 serving as full and final settlement for claim #787 100 filed on ⁰⁶⁄₀₈ /​16.»
I wouldn’t classify holding my items that were listed on the preapproved inventory list for $ 800 as «extenuating circumstances». I am disgusted with this company.

Not only was this the cheapest option for my looong-​distance move, but the Anthony H., one of the movers, and Luis M., one of the dispatchers, have gone way above and beyond for me. I won’t list what I did– I don’t want to encourage anyone, but you can probably guess. I enjoyed talking to them during the move and wish them all the best.
The implementation process up until the move was also pretty seamless and they plan it out well. But tip your movers and tip them well. They’re the best!

We moved this past weekend from our apartment in New Jersey to a storage unit in Long Island, NY. We could not have asked for a better move. Ibrahim and his team were an absolute pleasure to work with on our move. They arrived at 10:00am and left the storage unit by 5:00pm. Ibrahim and his team came in assessed the items we had and did not stop until every last item was removed from the apartment. This was by far one of our most seamless moves.
I would highly recommend Ibrahim and his team and will absolutely be using FlatRate for our next move out of our storage unit!

Wanted to share a great experience I had with Christian R. and his team on Friday June 10, (order 788 011). First off, it’s rare that you meet movers who actually LOVE their job, they were happy to help me move — I wasn’t completely packed :-/​— and didn’t complain. They were gentle with my things — I have some IKEA furniture so the fact that they moved them in tact was a feat in and of itself. Second, they were super fast, I literally blinked my eye and everything I owned was sitting in my apartment. I had a chance to catch my breath. Lastly, this move was emotional for me, I just bought my first apartment, I was sad to leave my old apartment and between all vendors that set foot in my new place from the cable guy, plumber, etc. Christian R.‘s team was by far the most accommodating and nicest of the bunch. They had no idea how much they lifted my spirits that day given their niceness. Thank you Flatrate for pulling together such an awesome team!

Used them three times and all three times, with three different crews, have been as painless as moving could possibly be. This last one was a doozy and it went without a glitch!

I used FlatRate movers June 4^th to move from Chelsea to Williamsburg. Akbar and Louis were extremely professional throughout the day. They showed up on time, were easy to work with and took excellent care of my belongings. They worked tirelessly getting everything up a 5 story walk-​up and allowed us to get completely set up by that night. Doing everything in one day was a lifesaver. Akbar explained everything very well and was pleasant to work with. I would ask for him specifically the next time we need movers in NYC. He represented FlatRate very well. The experience we had with Akbar would be the reason I would recommend him to anyone shopping for a moving company.

Christian and Brandon were awesome. Everything was protected, nothing was damaged. Will use again.

My wife and I are really satisfied with FlatRate Moving. We used them for our move from Queens, NY to Connecticut and they were extremely professional and helpful. From start to finish we felt comfortable with their staff and the work they do. Their moving crew packed and padded everything, transported it, and set it up in our new home for us. I’ve had good experience with them, starting from the sales person — Evgenia Gomez — to the actual movers — Gabriel, Ryan and Marshall. I cannot comment on the rate they provided, I got quotes only from two other companies and flat rate offered a discount.
I wasn’t sold 100% on the idea that they charge for specific items you are moving, but I moved before with a «local» cheaper company, they promised one rate and I ended up paying 150 $ more because it took them longer (they were doing this on purpose of course).
The movers showed up on time and were very polite apologizing for taking time to move certain heavy items.
They were good at packing the furniture and were careful with boxes so nothing was broken.

Greg and his crew did an excellent job! They were very careful in packing our furniture, were friendly and courteous, arrived on time (early, in fact), and worked until the job was done.

They sell your information.
After rejecting them for their absurd quote, I get a call from another moving company asking if I still need movers. I asked them how they knew I needed movers in the first place and they say «Oh, we don’t know, we get numbers from all over.» I’m sure they do. But, this time, it was Flat Rate.
Fuck. These. Guys.

Flawless experience. Booking online was a snap. Juan and team were troopers, schlepping boxes of my stuff from one apartment to another, despite running into challenges with street parking and the wacky nature of my building. Their company also were proactive with checking up on me, even during the move.

A few days ago we moved from one house to another in Brooklyn. Ibrahim Bashiru and his team were fantastic. When we staged our house for sale we put a lot of furniture and boxes in storage with Flatrate, so when we moved they were bringing the stuff from storage and moving the rest of our stuff. They were super-​fast, friendly, efficient, professional, and careful. They took apart my daughter’s huge bunk bed and put it together beautifully at the new place. The stairway to the third floor is very narrow at the bottom, and when asked to take a queen-​size box spring up there, they said, «We don’t think it will fit, but we’ll try it!» They did, and it didn’t. The same thing happened with a dresser, but that they did manage to get to the third floor.
Ibrahim had me check off the boxes and furniture that came out of storage to make sure we had it all. At the end, 6 boxes were unaccounted for. Toward the end of the day, when I could tell he was tired, he came to the basement with me and moved boxes around until we found all 6 of them. There was not a word of complaint from any of the 5 guys all day, and they seemed to work well together. It’s possible I could have gotten a lower price from another company, but for this kind of service, I’m willing to pay. (Note: I almost never write Unilocal reviews, but was moved by this very positive experience to do so.)
Matt Ocker came to our house before the move to do the estimate. He was great. Very friendly, thorough, and helpful.
Moving is crazy stressful. Ibrahim and his team made it almost fun. I would use Flatrate again for sure.

I can’t say enough good things about FlatRate. I scheduled them for a move from Rockland County (suburbs about 40 miles north of the city) into Manhattan. They had to make 2 stops in Rockland at 2 different houses, and then deliver our stuff to our 4^th floor walkup in the city. I worked with Stephen, who put together my move plan, and was so great and so patient with my MANY questions and changes.
The movers were scheduled to arrive between 9−10am, and they showed up at 9am on the dot. Marco was my foreman and he and his team were so nice, polite and efficient. They were in and out of my house in 30 minutes, in and out of the 2^nd stop in 30 minutes, and made it into the city in no time at all.
They went above and beyond in handling all of our belongings with care and making the whole move go smoothly from start to finish. I was happy with the price as well — after calling around getting different quotes, they were right on par with other local moving companies.

Paid these guys almost $ 7000 to move my expensive IT equipment. Paid extra for «Coverage» in case they broke any of my expensive equipment. They did over $ 8500 worth of damage and after WEEKS of waiting for them to respond to me about a settlement, they finally sent a letter rejecting all my IT equipment and offering me $ 950 to settle. I am currently seeking other means of recovering my money and will NEVER use this company again.
I feel cheated, ripped off, lied to, and given the run around. I would have come out ahead financially to throw my belongings in the Hudson river and re purchased everything when I arrived here. I have never been as dissatisfied with service in all my life. Worst movers on the planet.
Do not be fooled by the lies and slick marketing tricks. They will destroy your belongings and offer you a pittance for them. DO NOT HIRE THESE PEOPLE!!!
