I am giving this business 4 stars because when I give it the stars I believe it deserves, my review is «redacted» and doesn’t appear on the review page. Also, reviews that have 1 star«are not factored into» the business’ rating. Hmm. I write to follow up on my last review, because of course Float Science made it seem like it was my fault that I couldn’t get in touch with them. I am not disparaging their services. I have no idea whether their facility is good or their float tanks are good or the experience is good. I am complaining about how they do business.(I was not«Irate.» I was frustrated.) * THEYDONOTPROVIDE A PHONENUMBER. I made an appointment via the website for a float the next day. I realized within 30 min of making the appointment that I had screwed up and had another commitment at that same time. So I went back on the website to try to call them. They do no list a phone number and no phone number is available through any other web search. * THEYHAVE A «NOREFUNDS» POLICY, BUTTHEYDONOTSTATETHATCLEARLYONTHEIRWEBSITE. I didn’t learn this until my credit card company contacted them twice. * NONETHELESS, THEYSAYTHEYHAVE A 48HOURCANCELLATIONPOLICY, even if you didn’t make your reservation 48 hours in advance. My review was simply to say, BEVERYSUREYOUARENOTGOINGTOHAVETOCANCELYOURAPPOINTMENTBEFOREYOUMAKEIT. Their business practices are abusive.

Not the best experience here. From what I’ve read there should be no smell, but it definitely smelled musty. Yech. I tried it anyway, but couldn’t stand the mustiness after about 15 min so left early. Couldn’t help thinking that a musty smell means things aren’t clean. And even friends who’ve tried it in CA have told me it’s a complete deprivation experience: no sight, no sound, no touch, no smell… So why the odor? Also the front desk is a little chaotic. All in all, very sweet folks in a lovely yoga space, but I suspect they just need to take better care of their equipment.

I was recently gifted a float by a good friend of mine, and being as I had never really heard of sensory deprivation tanks, was dubious. But hey, it was a gift, so I did a little research and took the plunge(literally). The FAQ page on their main site is super comprehensive, pretty much all of my basic questions about floating were answered just by reading through that. But since I needed additional reassurance I also asked their customer service for some tips for my first float, which they were happy to oblige with. Thumbs up for ! The day of the float I had a tiny bit of trouble locating the Reflections Yoga studio, but as soon as I got the right building(diagonally across the street from Food Emporium is how I will remember from now on) I just walked right in. I also arrived early, since they need time to set you up. The staff is pretty friendly and the space is lovely. Classic yoga studio look with the gleaming wood, exotic decorations, and faint smells of incense. I liked it. The space where the tank is located is cozy and clean. Towels, earplugs, flip flops, etc are all supplied. I stepped into the tank and like previous reviewers have said, the hour seriously just flew by. Once you get into the water and relax your body, it’s a really transformative experience. I’ve been super stressed with my school work lately, and with final exams coming up this was exactly what I needed. I felt that I could finally quiet the thoughts buzzing around and just let my brain recover from the week. Seriously, I recommend everyone at least try this at some point in their life. After the float I made sure to towel off thoroughly because I felt bad for tracking so much water out of the tank and to the shower area. Bathing suits absorb a surprisingly large amount of water and it kind of gets everywhere if you don’t dry off well. Clean and feeling refreshed, I left the studio feeling relaxed, calm, and with really soft skin. A++!!! **Note: Also, I just have to say, I think Float Science might have one of the coolest business cards I’ve ever seen. So shiny! And colorful! Floating astronauts! *squeals* I grabbed it on a whim and couldn’t stop admiring it on the train ride home.

Everyone must try this. An hour in the tank flew by, and when I popped out I felt more relaxed than an hour massage. Definitely arrive early. It’s on the second floor in a Yoga studio. When I got there a Yoga class was just getting started and the lady at the desk was running around trying to help me and Yoga people at the same time. The tank was sooo salty though — wear clothes you don’t mind getting a bit dirty, I was finding patches of dry salt on my shirt and pants all day. Definitely don’t drink coffee in the morning or eat much beforehand. It’s just you and your thoughts, a gurgling belly is a bit distracting(and surprisingly loud!).

After listening to a podcast about sensory deprivation, I was very interested in trying it. Float Science, inside the Reflections yoga studio, seemed the most legit and sanitary – and just to seal the deal, they were offering a Groupon!(I think Reflections does that on a somewhat regular basis, so keep your eye on them if you’re interested.) The studio itself is a little hard to find, and there’s a tiny elevator that takes you to the second floor, but once you get inside it’s obvious they work to keep the space serene and peaceful. My float appointment was about the same time as a yoga class, and the room had a very calming atmosphere that seemed like it’d be great for the class. As for the float itself: everything went smoothly from start to finish. You shower beforehand and put in wax earplugs, then lay down in the tank half-filled with salt-saturated water. It was such a unique experience to be completely floating and held up by the water; I’ve read it’s similar to floating in the Dead Sea. I was able to completely relax my limbs and let my mind wander for a full hour, which seemed to fly by. When the attendant gave a soft knock on the tank door, I couldn’t believe it had been a whole hour. I climbed out feeling so completely relaxed and zen! You take another shower after, and I learned that I didn’t scrub nearly enough – I still had salt in my hair when I got home! A friend of mine had a float appointment after me, so the staff let me wait for him and even gave me a cup of tea while I read a book and maintained that ‘zen’ feeling instead of having to go right back onto the frenzied streets of the city. It’s not cheap, at about $ 80 for an hour, but if you happen to get a Groupon or want to treat yourself to a unique relaxing experience, Float Science is the place to do it.

Went for an hour. So blissful. Located inside the Reflections Yoga Studio. Shower facilities provided– super clean and cozy, and they give you a robe too. Afterwards my skin was SO soft. It really is an energy boosting and cleansing at the same time. Everything about the studio is warm, inviting, and relaxing. Amazing Sensory Depravation Tank experience. Thank you so much!

Excellent set up. I’m just starting to float, and wow it’s sad that there’s only a few places in nyc. Not to knock the others, but this is the real deal. an actual tank, inside a yoga studio, with its own separate room. went for 3hrs, felt like 30mins. wish the best of luck to these guys in the venture… they plan to open a few more if this works out(i hate times square — east side would be really nice…)
