Just called and got laughed off the phone when I asked for an appointment today.

I’ve been relying on Jean’s expertise for over five years now. She’s incredibly talented and always knows the most flattering length for skirts, dresses and pants. She works by appointment only to ensure that detail can go to every item. Jean’s a joy to spend time with and I recommend her to everyone I know.

If your looking for a great tailor in Manhattan Jean at Ghost Tailor is the place to go. She works with the stars, but will make anyone feel Red Carpet ready.
I’ve used Jean for suits, slacks, dress shirts and jackets. My wife’s used her for dresses, skirts and suits as well. I’m of the mind set a suit properly tailored is more important then the cost of the suit itself.
Jean is very personable and attentive to detail. She works by appointment only. I highly recommend checking Ghost Tailor out.

I went to see Jean for a wedding dress alteration and she gave me some amazing suggestions. She was easy to talk to, very friendly and quite knowledgeable.
There aren’t many specialty tailors in the city that I would trust with my wedding dress and I am so glad I found her!

Walked all the way over here w jeans to tailor bc they had good reviews but the woman kicked me out and said to come back by appointment only, that I couldn’t leave my jeans here to be tailored. Horrible shitty customer service

Buyer beware… if you are a bride, this woman is not to be trusted and I have suspicions that she is not mentally well. She does not do great work and she will tell you straight faced lies to get your business. NOTE: Look at the filtered comments and you will get a better sense of what to truly expect. I did not personally have my dress done here but I am the maid of honor for my friend. I accompanied her on the initial consult and being an excited maid of honor wanted to take pictures. This woman was almost offended that I was taking pictures and asked me not to take photos. Ok. Sure. I can respect that. After name dropping celebrities that she works with (in a pretty obvious and obnoxious way) she gave the price for the altering to be about $ 800. The price was including tax and about $ 300-​$ 400 more than other quotes we’d gotten. But Jean kept insisting it was «the biggest dress she’s seen and it would be a really big job». This is not a huge dress. Fluffy yes. Huge, no. If it is the biggest wedding dress she’s ever seen then she has very little experience.
During the consultation, my friend asked specifically if she could keep the dress there until the wedding date. This was a key in her decision on who to use to alter her dress. Without hesitation, Jean said, of course. My friend reconfirmed stating that she didn’t have the space in her apartment and it was really important. She said again, it was absolutely no problem. She was so accommodating. We learned later she was only trying to get the sale.
When my friend went back without me for a second fitting, the dress was not finished correctly and she was told by Jean that there was absolutely no way she’d keep the dress until her wedding date and she’d need to take it one week before. My friend, living in a tiny NYC one bedroom with her fiancé was beside herself. Her stress level skyrocketed. Not really something you want three weeks out from the wedding. Because something had not been done correctly, she was told to come back in a week and pick up the dress. According to my friend, Jean was rude and unconcerned.
To pick up the dress I accompanied my friend again. Trust me when I say, this woman is not to be trusted and does not do a good job in her handy work. Save your money. Go elsewhere where you’ll be treated better and will get a better job done on your dress. The dress was now completely wrinkled and when I asked her why she said it could stay there as she said the first time we were there when she point blank lied and said that she didn’t say that and would never say that because she doesn’t work on Fridays. She straight lied to my face with an air of arrogance. She couldn’t have been less bothered by it either. I remember clear as day her words and attitude which was ever so accommodating. I was not about to argue with a person who clearly is a sleezeball. On top of it all, there was a moment where she out of the blue stated that she doesn’t hold dresses because «it’s just too stressful for her». Yes, I guess running a stinky small (did I mention it smelled off and was muggy and hot) tailoring studio can be incredibly stressful.
In the end the Bussle will need to be redone as it looks uneven and sadly, horrible. This cost $ 400 for a below average job. The dress was incredibly wrinkled and will need to be taken to be steamed and my friend has to store the dress at my house because her apartment is just too small. She also cut the train down and LIED about it. Trust me when I say: go elsewhere! If you need, check out Nymag.com’s listings in their wedding guide. They have tailors who are trusted there.

Brides — Stay Away
I met with Jean after seeing good reviews on Unilocal.However, my experience with her was so poor I really wish I had stayed away. She is very expensive and I really thought I was going to get a good quality of service because in our first meeting she was very accommodating. This changed immediately after I decided to give her my business. The dress was given back to me completely wrinkled and the hemline after being re-​done twice was still uneven and in some parts just cut in a jagged edge. She suggested I bring the dress to get it steamed somewhere else (after I had paid her $ 800+ and this is really not the condition to be handing it back to me)! Meanwhile the 2^nd to last visit (before I picked the dress up) it was perfectly steamed… so why now that i’m picking it up does she not deliver a finished product? There were other things that she later reneged on such as the price she quoted included tax — later it didn’t and was an added expense. That she would be able to hold the dress until the Thursday before the wedding — later she forced me to take it 2 weeks early which just about brought me to tears in her studio and she really could care less. She bustled my dress and it looked horrible and I actually got it redone for a lot cheaper elsewhere. She totally cut into the original line of the train so now it looks different (awkward) I didn’t need anything done to the train so turns out her adjustment was an effort to hide her strange work on the bustle.
Bad experience — proceed at your own risk.

I cannot say enough other than Jean made my bridal dress dream a reality… I had purchased my wedding dress at a Monique Lhuillier trunk show (in hindsight, I would have probably taken my dress pictures to Jean and asked her to make everything but… anyway…) and I wanted to have a veil and train made. If I had purchased from the designer, this would have increased my overall price to $ 20k, which I just could not do. So… enter the magic of Jean. She created a stunning veil and royal-​length train to perfectly match my dress. I have the bridal look of my dreams and to top it all off, Jean is an absolute pleasure to work with and really made this experience fun. I highly recommend going to see Jean for any fashion needs, she is the ‘best of the best.’

Extremely rude on the phone. She told me that she was unable to alter my dress, but never even saw me in the dress or even saw me in person. Then about 5-​mins later, claimed she had a client present so refused to talk to me. Had given her my phone number to return my call however she never called back! Be warned that such poor customer service reflects on her work!

I did not think that her services were anything special. In fact I’ve had to have 2 of the pieces she tailored for me redone. I think her sewing skills are very good and she is a professional person but she doesn’t know the current styles and cuts. Asking her to bring in a pant to make the legs «skinny» was something that went over her head. Most importantly her prices are out of control. I almost fell over when quoted. I’ve now found a tailor who is just as skilled and understands current cuts better and whose prices are more reasonable. My advice — keep searching.

I love getting clothes tailored. I rarely have the money to do so, but I find that it is well worth the effort to have clothes that fit EXACTLY like your body needs.
That said, I usually take my stuff to the ‘hood drycleaners to get something hemmed, taken in, let out, whatever. I like to keep my clothes a long time. (I’m learning how to sew now, so ha!)
But when I inherited three vintage floor-​length Lilly Pulitzer dresses from the mid 70s, I knew I had to find a better place. So I went to Google, found Ghost Tailor, and then went to Unilocal,and found a buncha great reviews; so I made an appointment.
How wonderful! Jean is the best. Her studio is perfect and she treats you like an old friend (I think another review says that? anyway… it’s true) We talked music, stuff, the city, whatever… and she is so much fun!
All I needed was to shorten the three dresses and she was the perfect choice for handling these vintage goodies. Got em back, and they are just perfect. Now I can actually wear them.
I will definitely go back!

Classic Reviewer’s Dilemma: something so good you hesitate to share it due to the extreme rarity of Good Things… But whatever. Maybe a nice review will get me a smiley-​face rainbow cookie and a unicorn ride in heaven someday.
I was turned on to Jean Kormos’ genius by a fashionista lady friend, who assured me she’s the best in NYC. Being a gent, I can’t vouch for her women’s wear skills (but she’s booked solid during wedding season and fashion week, so that probably says something). But I can assure all you well turned-​out dudes that Jean has impeccable taste and the scissor and sewing chops to back it up. She re-​cut a couple of suits for me, magically turning off-​the-​rack into bespoke, and the work was flawless, reasonably inexpensive and fast. For 45 bucks she can turn a pair of wide-​leg thrift shop trou into a sleek pair of Ozwald Boateng lookalikes, and will impart secret sartorial wisdom to all those who seek out her cozy work room in a nondescript high rise a stone’s throw from F.I.T. Plus, she’s a painter and a charming conversationalist.
Forget those New York magazine annual «Best Of» lists — think those editors are really going to send you to their secret spot like your boy here? No sir. If you give a damn about how you look — and your denim is looking not so fresh these days, mister — give Ghost Tailor a call. And send me a cookie after.
