Glaze Teriyaki Grill

Inside is very cozy and warm so it was a great place to walk into after walking through the cold streets. The interior design is also really nice so that’s a nice plus.
I ordered the wok vegetable with brown rice and carrot ginger sauce for the side salad. My total came out just under $ 9. It came out fairly quickly and with my first bite in, I was in love. The flavors worked together so well and I enjoyed almost every bite. When I was done eating, the food didn’t sit heavily which is also another nice plus!
My only complaint is that there were some pieces of rice that were clumped together and quite hard, which is never really pleasant.

Finally a chicken teriyaki that’s flavorful and filling. That hot sauce, goddamn.

There’s food you eat because it’s unique or decadent, and there’s food you eat because it’s tasty sustenance. The food here is the latter.
If you’re ever in the Union Square area and want something simple and relatively healthy, this is a great option — the space is small and cute, it’s counter service, and they serve you food you could probably make at home but are too hungry/​far away/don’t want to at the moment.
I got the teriyaki salmon with brown rice and ginger carrot salad for about $ 12. The salmon was tender, the glaze was sweet and savory, the rice was pleasantly chewy, and the salad decent. It was a good sized portion and made me feel satisfied and energized enough to push through the hellhole of Union Square subway station. They also have these massive coconuts for about $ 5 that are really good — I love coconut water and mine tasted really fresh.
It’s simple, quick, tasty and nourishing. Sometimes that’s just what you need. (I did need ice cream after though)

I was so excited to try this place and let me tell you, it did not disappoint! It’s a must try especially if you’re around Union Square. They have such a cute and cozy interior, but there isn’t a lot of seating. I personally love the succulents around the place. The food was delish and the portions were decent. Chicken thigh topped with sesame seeds and teriyaki sauce was so good with a bit of sriracha. A bit of spice goes a long way!

Like digg inn, but with higher quality ingredients and not sitting out under a heat lamp for hours.
Salmon teriyaki w/​white rice — A+

I had some extra time before my movie started so I popped in here for a quick meal and I’m so glad I did. Wonderful freshly grilled chicken topped with thick teriyaki sauce and a sprinkle of sesame seeds. I got mine over hearty brown rice and I also ordered edamame and wings on the side. The edamame were seasoned with a bit of spice which was not mentioned in the menu but I didn’t mind at all. The wings were so good! They have a nice kick to it and a superb crunch.
I will definitely be returning!

Following my initial review, I received a message from these folks asking that I try them out again as they have made note of the portion size issue. Very nice gesture but guess what? Portions were even smaller!
I really like Glaze but for the price, you can find better lunch options in the area.

Just decided to try it on a whim. They cook really fast and have gluten free options which is cool. I got the pork loin and salmon over brown rice and gyoza. Why am I paying $ 4 or was it $ 4.50 for 4 dumplings? Seems like a rip off. Then, the pork was soooo salty. And me, I LOVE salt! I put salt on everything but it was ridiculously salty. Too much. Salmon was regular.

I was really excited to try this place– it’s perfectly located right next to Union Square. I would consider it a good place to grab lunch or a quick dinner when you’re on the go.
My biggest apprehension is that the portions are relatively small for what you’re paying. There is also a range of prices depending what kind of meat you get– most specifically white meat chicken versus dark meat. However, this will more than satisfy a craving for Asian food.

I’ve only been in Manhattan a few months, but this is probably one of my favorite places to go for a good and pretty cheap meal. The menu is super simple: choose a protein, white or brown rice, and a dressing for your salad. There are also side dishes that you can get (none of which I have tried… yet).
I usually get the Combo 1, which allows you to choose 2 proteins. Steak is definitely my favorite (very flavorful), and I usually pair it with the tofu (which is also really good). I’ve tried the chicken breast, pork loin, and salmon too, all of which are pretty good (the chicken and pork taste very similar, not too flavorful, and the salmon isn’t that big portion-​wise). Rice is a matter of preference… or how healthy you feel like eating. For the dressing, I’ve always gotten the sesame one, and honestly it’s amazing. It’s pretty sweet, and it goes really well with the salad.
On the left-​most part of the counter, there’s a place where you can fill some to-​go containers with extra teriyaki sauce or Sriracha. Oh, the teriyaki sauce here is absolutely amazing. It goes well with all of the proteins, and you could really just eat it by itself with rice because it’s that good.
The restaurant itself is very small with only around 15 seats. Service is pretty quick though. It can get a little crowded because of the space, but you can get in and out relatively quickly. Portions for me are enough to substantiate dinner, and the price always comes out to be around $ 11.50 (pretty cheap for the city). I definitely recommended Glaze!

This place was definitely what I was looking for. I stumbled across this place looking for something savory yet quick that wasn’t Chipotle or Pret. I’m all about finding cool new trendy yet delicious places to eat on a new york budget, and this place does just that.
I ordered the brown rice bowl with salmon and OH WHAT A GOOD CHOICE. It comes with a little salad on the side with carrot ginger dressing. For $ 10, it’s a little much for me, but the salmon was so worth it.
So before you decide to stand in line in one of those corporate chains, check this place out. A definite must-​go when youre in union square.

Glaze is a small restaurant with a simple concept; it’s a place for teriyaki chicken/​beef/​fish/​tofu/​veggies. One of the standard menu items is chicken, rice, and a small salad with your choice of three dressings (sesame, carrot/​ginger, or spicy). The ordering process is similar to a Chipotle. My reaction to the food was 3 ½ stars. For ten dollars, the food was very fresh, the chicken breast and rice portion are good (could have used a little more greens). Strangely, I wasn’t loving the teriyaki sauce, which is surprising as it must be a signature recipe? There are some sides and small plates available (dumplings, ribs, etc). As for the environment, all the tables needed wiping from prior diners, and it wasn’t done although it was very quiet at the time. A three star experience for me.

Glaze is a solid option when you want a healthy meal.
The sets come with white/​brown rice, salad, and your choice of protein. I’ve tried the steak, salmon, and chicken thigh and I would probably rate their taste in the same ordered as I listed them (steak being the best). Glaze is good, but I wouldn’t say it’s great. If you’re craving teriyaki, this isn’t the best I’ve had, but if you’re craving something simple and healthy I would recommend this place.

$ 10 for double protein combo is the best deal.
I ordered the double protein with tofu and chicken, the chicken was good but the tofu was the best part. Cooked perfectly and went well with the tereyaki sauce. The sauce was amazing, clearly their namesake.
They give you a significant serving of rice, would only wish I could switch out the rice for steamed vegetables instead. Otherwise, perfect grab and go type place.

I went there in February, specifically the week leading up to the superbowl. They had a deal where if you came in Seahawks gear, you’d get a free bowl. I was skeptical, but it turned out the deal worked, as me and my girlfriend both were able to eat at no cost. It was a huge bonus, and they’re great with promotions, but I’ll keep that from my bias on the food.
We got there around 630 on a Thursday evening, and the place was packed. There is maybe seating for about 20 people, and every table was taken by stragglers who were not quite ready to head back into the cold. Because of this, we ended up standing in the restaurant for ten minutes with our food, waiting for someone to move. They definitely need more seating in my opinion.
Once we finally were able to sit down though, the food was yummy. I had the pork bowl, my girlfriend had the steak bowl. Both came with a side salad – which, to be honest was just a few leaves – and then a choice of brown or white rice, I had the brown rice, which I found to be a little dry.
Besides the wait for a seat, it was a flavorful and filling meal. I’d definitely come back, even if it wasn’t free!

I LOVE Glaze! A small, to-​go lunch spot with great flavor!
I go here all the time for lunch during the week since my office is close by. I definitely recommend coming here for a quick bite to eat. Nothing fancy inside, just a very small place with a small/​focused menu.
They make this AMAZING homemade teriyaki sauce (I’m a fan of the original, but they also have gluten-​free, and spicy/​super spicy versions). First you pick your protein (chicken thigh, chicken breast, salmon, beef, veggies), then white/​brown rice, then your dressing for the salad. There are also other side options or salads. But I recommend the first mentioned method of ordering.
RESTAURANT OVERVIEW:
–Very small and narrow — the line fills to the door around prime lunch time hours. There are a few tables on either side of the line. I wouldn’t eat here though, I’d probably take it to the park if it were nice out, but I usually eat at my desk. Womp.
FOOD:
–I always get chicken thigh with brown rice, and honey-​lemon dressing for my salad
–I always specify more salad and less rice, since they give you a ton of rice and only a bit of salad otherwise. You can also ask for no rice at all, or no salad at all. –The teriyaki sauce is THE BOMB!!! I tried the spicy sauce and it wasn’t so much a spicier original teriyaki sauce. It was more red in color and had a hot sauce flavor. I wasn’t really into that one since I don’t like hot sauce (but I do love me some red pepper flakes!)
–The honey lemon dressing is the way to go — AMAZING.
–While you are waiting for your number to be called, there is a station to the left of the cash register where you can load up on extra to-​go sauce. DO IT. I usually fill two little cups up with the extra teriyaki sauce and pour it in when I start eating. This stuff is like crack.

Glaze is my go-​to for nighttime but not-​too-​late drunk food, as well as when I just need a quick, healthy meal. I went here back in the day for a Unilocal event (which I enjoyed) but didn’t come back for at least a year. This year since I was on my fitness kick I tried it again. The place looks like a casual eatery which is exactly what it is; I kind of wish they could squeeze more seats in as it sometimes gets packed. The fried shishito peppers I loved are gone but the core menu remains intact and reasonably priced at ~$ 10.
The chicken teriyaki is pretty damned on point. Slightly charred, juicy with some serious teriyaki sauce, it does a good job summarizing why teriyaki is a good thing. The hanger steak is also a good addition, although I wish they cooked it more rare. The salmon I only have rarely as I eat enough fish as is but it’s also very good. Combined with their salad (ginger dressing preferred) and some brown rice, this is a fine meal. Add more teriyaki and some sriracha and you’re good. The main point here is that the food is great for what it is, it’s cheap, and you can get it quickly. How much else can you ask for?

This is probably my new fav lunch spot around Union Square! Love that there’s AC in the store and its not crowded at all. The wooden interior has character as well!
It was my first time visiting and the cashier was super nice and funny. I ordered ‘Chicken Thigh Teriyaki Plate’ ($ 8.00) It tasted great especially with the Sriracha on the side! And their salad with ‘Honey Lemon’ sauce was extremely refreshing.
I dined in and had cup of their cucumber water to ease the spice because I added too much Sriracha…
Also, don’t forget to pick up a rewards punch-​card because you’ll probably revisit like me!

I swear every food service restaurant can be compared to Chipotle.
Just like how startups are often compare as the (blank) for (blank), Glaze can be described as the Chipotle for teriyaki food. Ordering is not assembly style, but you choose a protein, grain, and dressing for a complete stir fry meal in a cute little box. I opted for the salmon and beef combo with a side of carrot ginger dressing. A few minutes later I was feasting on my delicious rice bowl.
I’ve never been a fan of Asian fusion as I don’t understand paying more for a sweeter version of the original. However, Glaze was surprisingly refreshing, and I thought I got a pretty deal with my bowl, lots of meat and fish for a full meal a little over $ 10. The salmon wasn’t too sweet, which is a common issue with teriyaki, and it flaked real nice, a sign of not being overcooked. The dressing was also delicious, full of flavor and not oily at all.
It’s not the closest lunch spot to my office, but I’m glad to have that option near Union Square.
