I’ve eaten at various Golden Crusts throughout Brooklyn and when I saw this one on 8th Ave between 39th and 40th Street I was excited. That excitement turned to disgust when I sat down to eat the tasteless rice and peas and stew chicken. I stopped eating and ordered a chicken patty and let the woman cashing know that I hope the patty was better than the food because I thought the food was horrible. She asked what’s wrong and I told her it had no taste, mind you this was my first meal of the day and I was starving. That did not help the taste, my palate was not having it. I’m not sure who’s cooking, but they need to be reassigned to a different job, preferably washing dishes and leave the cooking to people who could actually cook.

I wish I can give less than one start. The food is over priced and it taste disgusting. I wouldn’t even feed this to my dogs. I am so disappointed I wasted my 11.43 on this crap of food. Then there are no prices around, you have to go to the counter and ask and they answer with an attitude when you ask. They gave me two small plantains, what was I suppose to do with that.

Honestly I would rather give this place a –1 for the terrible service I received. I have been feeling unwell and heard so many good things about the soup from golden Krust. I go and asked the cashier for a «chicken soup to go». She charges me $ 9.25. I assumed it was only one size pricy because of the city. So I paid. Then I heard her Say«large soup for her.» So I asked if there was a small … The cashier answered«yes but you said u want large» when I proceed to tell her that I didn’t say large she began raising her voice calling me liar. I was so taken back. I informed her NICELY that I said soup to go … She then tells me not to lie because I am getting her mad. The lady taking out my soup in the back looked like she felt bad. I will never again visit golden Krust. The lady was nasty and took advantage of my size as well as my sickly condition. All I wanted was a soup to feel better and instead I got robbed and called a liar by the worker. Terrible

I keep trying with this place and keep being disappointed. Every time I say give them a chance, I still end up being frustrated. Their jerk chicken is the absolute worst. The thing is, I patronize the Golden Krust in Jamaica ctr/Parsons Blvd, and their jerk chicken is amazing. I keep wishing the same person who cooks there would move to Manhattan. I ordered a jerk chicken meal today, how stupid of me. The chicken has no flavor whatsoever. Even if you drown it in jerk sauce you can still taste the blandness. I’ve told myself several times I’m not going back there. Today is my last time. So pissed because I had high hopes.

After reading all the reviews 1 thing that they all have in common and I totally agree with is the poor quality of food and the service is way below satisfactory. This establishment is a joke, I’ve witnessed customers being talked over, food that looks like it hasn’t been tended to for weeks, and their worst attribute is the rude attitude of management and their employees. It is beyond me how this food chain and in this location particularly generates income. In the heart if Times Square you would think that a buisness like this would be properly managed, but attitude reflects leadership I guess.

We ordered take out. This store is bit difficult to find. Everything came in 5 minutes after the order, so we ca say it is pretty quick. Curry chicken was spicy, and tasty! Price is reasonable, spinach wrap was also nice! Good for bites!

Is it possible to give less than one star? I most certainly would, if I knew how to do it. There is a wretched troll behind the counter of this location and she makes the patties! I ordered a spinach patty and half of it was hard. I could feel it crumbling in my hand. This indicates that it was either stale or overcooked. I asked for another. The troll told me that she made the patties and they were all the same and that that is how patties are. I have been eating patties all my life. Hard is stale. She had no qualms about giving me my money back even when I politely asked her to switch it for another in the batch. There is a pervasive stankness among Golden Krust employees that I have come to expect, but I’m over it. Whatever cultural issue Jamaicans have with providing basic customer service is beyond me. I tried to support black business, but don’t serve me shit and call it sunshine. I cant. If you want good Jamaican food, do not patronize Golden Krust, especially not this location, unless you’re into trolls.

I ordered a large curry shrimp one day and they only gave me 6 shrimp, next day I ordered jerk chicken and the chicken was so dry I had to throw it away. This has to be the worst golden krust I ever been to

I had the Spicy Beef and Jerk Chicken Patties today. The both were flimsy with hardly any filling in them. All you’re paying for is the outer crust. After I finished the very dry Patties, I asked for a glass of water. The woman said it would be tap water, which is what I wanted. She then replied the water is free but the cup is 50 cents. Is that how they treat their customers? If they are that stingy with water then I can see why they’re cutting corners by providing unfilled Patties. One can only imagine in what other ways they are cutting corners(hygiene wise?)… which is now the main reason why I will never eat here again. 4 hours after I ate the patties I had the worse intestinal cramps ever. I rushed to the bathroom and I exploded with bad diarrhea. Diarrhea that Ive only encountered once before in Mexico… Seems whatever meat that was in the Patty was definitely not good. I will never eat here again.

Awful! I used to love the Golden Krust on 3rd Ave, but this! In the window is a picture of a «jerk chicken wrap» laying on some kind of salad… green with onion. Order it, and get a pre-made(several days ago by the look and taste of it) chicken wrap wrapped in plastic. Salad? Naw, that’s just for the picture. Try to get a glass of water with that– to sit at a table–«Sorry, the manager doesn’t let us give water.» One taste, and you’ll know you don’t need water to put out the jerk fire. There is no fire. There is no jerk. The chicken is bland enough for a tourist from Iowa. The whole sandwich is as heavily spiced as a raw potato… and half as tasty. And for this I had to sit through a server as jolly as cancer victim… only angrier. I don’t know the beef she had with the guy sitting behind me, but she spent at least a half hour letting him have it. As they say in Jamaica: Oy vey!

The first time I had the oxtail(which was 10 years ago), I was hooked. I was lucky enough to have bonded with some cool colleagues who introduced me to different types of food. We would order from Golden Krust once in a while, and I always ordered the Oxtail Roti(although the roti doesn’t seem to be an option anymore?) It’s been a while since I’ve eaten here. I think this new location is further up from where it used to be. It’s small with about 3 – 4 tables. I’ve never dined here, but I prefer takeaway so that I can enjoy it in the comfort of my own home(especially since some meals need you to get down and dirty! I personally like to eat my oxtail with my fingers, because no knife and fork is gonna help me get to those nooks and crannies.) Today, I ordered the … you guessed it… oxtail meal. The oxtail is just as good as I always remembered it to be. And while I told myself not to eat all the white rice, that was hard to do with all the yummy sauce that the oxtail came in. Meals come in two sizes — small or large. Small should be enough food, but if you are not sure then add a side of yummy coco bread!

I found a large pebble in my food. I called the restaurant and I was told there are always pebbles in the rice. They would not give me a refund. No I do not want anymore food from the same batch where the pebble came from??? I never heard of a of restaurant that advocates foreign particles in the food. The food cost me $ 14.14. I told the woman on the phone that I do not want to argue about whether or not pebbles are supposed to be in the food. I will never go to this restaurant or any other Golden Crust for that matter.

I come here regularly. The food is good. Service is typical of a West Indian establishment –despite the fact that you are paying them for the food. The escovitch fish is delicious so is the oxtail & rice n peas. You will ONLY get two piece of plantain with you food-so no baddah ask fi more… There’s a limit on dumplings in ur soup as well. So just ready yuh self when you come-you’ve been warn. Bön apetite!

Good food; and I’m not talking about patties; that’s like judging a Chinese restaurant by their egg roll. And if you don’t know anything about Jamaican food, what are you reviewing here exactly? I find the people in this place are a great judge of character; if you got bad service, perhaps try some introspection.

This restaurant is like the Millennium Falcon: it’s not much to look at, but she’s got it where it counts. Simon L. was correct in his review: service matters, and bad attitude can ruin a meal. You will get apathetic service here on a good day. Surly socio-economically-challenged inner-city attitude on a bad day. Hey, that’s the price we pay for living in NYC, right? Try not to let it get you down. Décor and cleanliness? What’s that? It looks like an unsanitary ghetto corner store, replete with a TV whose volume blared too loud. But hey, try not to let it get you down. The neighborhood sucks. There must be a methadone clinic nearby, because I’ve never seen so many strung out junkies in one place. But hey, it’s NYC. Try not to let it get you down. Are you still with me? Good, because the reward is great food. My wife had the curry chicken. It was spiced wonderfully. The chicken was super tender and literally fell off the bones. The flavor exploded in my mouth. I had the oxtail. The meat was super fatty and spicy, as oxtail is known to be. I’m sure it clogged a mile or so of arteries. But that spicy fat was heaven on earth. Again, the meat fell off the bones just by picking it up. Truth be told, the food is a bit pricey. But boy is it tasty! We definitely plan on coming back.

Today’s Lesson: Service matters. Or bad service /attitude can ruin a meal. Golden Krust was serving a «special» on their Curry Chicken with rice for $ 5.99 so I figured I would get that. However, I was disappointed when they started scooping it into one of those mini to-go boxes. I felt a tad cheated. It’s still a good amount of food but I definitely expected a more«full» portion. More importantly though, the lady behind the counter looked like she was sleep-walking. There was only one guy in front of me but rather than hustling to get things done, she was dragging. The expression on her face was that of utter dread. By the time she got to me, I was thinking about abandoning ship. I still ordered and the food was okay — nothing to write home about. I still love Golden Krust’s beef patties but no more eating there.

Never had Jamaican food before, so I had nothing to compare to, but the food I had here was really good. The serving was nicely portioned so no need to go for the combo, small meal would suffice. The service was nice and fast, the lady who is putting the food together were so nice, explaining patiently what I am about to get, and if I need more. I’ll fore sure come back for another try. I had jerk chicken, with white rice smothered with curry gravy, side of cooked cabbage which was nice and sweet and a slice of plantains. Perfect for lunch!

Their patties are really good. I love the jerk chicken patty. I’ve tried the beef, shrimp, and chicken and those are all good also. And they’re very cheap! Their jerk chicken is a little spicy, but very flavorful. There’s not much seating at this place during lunch hours, so don’t always expect to seat and eat here.
