Good Beer

Think of a place that lets you either:
1) buy an assortment of craft beers from all over the country at fair prices
2) has eight tap lines of interesting brews and vintage bottles to drink
3) hosts limited releases of cult beers that people very nearly murder each other for, and does so in a relatively organized and dirt cheap manner ($ 5 for Founders CBS!)
Good Beer does all of these things. You won’t understand how. The location, selection, and licensing requirements should mean much higher markup, but the prices are reasonable. They seem to get allocations of just about everything, and while they don’t really use Beermenus, they’re fairly good about posting announcements to social media. And their staff is some of the most knowledgeable around. Don’t be put off by the occasional Murray Hill gals milling around in their Friday Night Tights looking for ‘that super hoppy beer where they like… add all the hops’ because this place is leagues beyond that. Go in knowing what you want, or go in with no ideas at all but an openness to listen, and you’re going to leave happy.

Wonderful selection of bottles and cans — one of the best in Manhattan! Wish that they were a little more convenient because I would be here all the time. The guys who work here are super friendly and helpful — they were happy to chat with customers, and when they didn’t have a specific beer that I was looking for, they gave me ideas of other shops in the area that might have it, as well as when they expected their distributor to come back with more.
They have a card minimum of $ 10, and don’t take AmEx, but I feel like that’s not so unusual. Overall, great shopping experience here, and I’m definitely planning to come back next time I’m searching for a specific beer!

Super cool place. Amazing beer selection with many options that are not so easy to find elsewhere. The place is small but well stocked — they offer pints and flights too that you can enjoy there — not a lot of seating but the fact that it’s a small place I think adds to it’s charm. Nice selection of ciders — a definite plus in my book. Flights are very reasonably priced… as is everything else, really. Really nice and friendly staff too. Will definitely be back!

Great place to find some great beer both domestic and international beers.
Local neighborhood place that offers hard to find beers and ciders. They have a large array of beers in bottles and cans. Located in the Lower East Side of NYC. The beers are arranged in alphabetical order and regions. The place is small but offers a great selection. They also have a few beers on tap that you can taste and Drink there. They also have growlers that you can buy and fill up with your favorite brew.
The staff is friendly and helpful in describing and finding the right beer for you.

Great service, excellent domestic beer options. If you’re in the area and are looking to have a few good brews I’d recommend it

This place became my temple to sit and read with a beer or two or three. The people who work here are SO friendly and knowledgable. Arguably my favorite place in all of New York City

This place is great. One of the 5 best beer shops in the city, for sure. Growlers, sixers, 4packs, 22 ozs. of all the great stuff, and a few surprises. Even in a city where bodegas and head shops now carry world-​class beer, Good Beer impresses. Too bad it’s not closer to my home.

Came here to grab a mixed six-​pack for my bf. Told the staff who worked at the counter to help me with finding the right wheat beer/​ale combination. He was super friendly and got great taste. End result: happy boyfriend, happy life. Need I say more?

Huge selection of beer to go, DUH!
This is truly a neighborhood establishment drawing a great local crowd. Lots of pretty girls too. Never gets too crowded or douchey especially for the east village.
Draft lines are always pouring great beer from all over the country. Bottle selection is pervasive, featuring great local and national brands.
The guys behind the bar are really nice and approachable.
Best thing, the prices, especially the growler fills, are extremely fair, especially compared to other places in Manhattan and brooklyn.
If you want to drink great beer in a super chill environment, this is the place to be.

Really cool spot!
Casually walked upon this place on a date. Since we are both beer lovers, we walked in to have a taster. I deducted 1 star because they don’t let you drink the bottles inside the place. You have to get the pints or flights. And it has a B rating. But Still a pretty cool spot. And I would go back.
They have tons of craft beers. I found this one called Fruli. It’s a Beligian White Beer. And its a strawberry beer that tastes like strawberry. Point is, this has got to be one of the most laid back and less pretentious beer spots in all of NYC. The staff was cool about everything.

Immaculate store with a lot of refrigerator space. Lots of singles… some special release and harder to find bottles like what you might score at Bowery Place Whole Foods or perhaps hidden away at New Beer Distributors. Prices seemed a little bit higher to me at least. They do have a tap system believe it or not for growler fills or drink on premise pints or tasters. Some pretty decent Victory and Southern Tier beers on tap when I visited.

The first time I strolled past Good Beer, I did a double take. Could it really be? A store entirely devoted to craft beer was down the block from me this entire time? AND I’M MOVING IN TWO WEEKS???
I wish I knew about Good Beer sooner. For now, all I can do is relish on our short time spent together before I moved away. Luckily, I’ve got the Thirsty Quaker in JC to take my mind off of Good Beer and all of their hoppy delights.
Good Beer serves two purposes– you can come in and shop around or actually sit down and have some drinks. As expected, there is a ton of selection and it can take hours to pick out a growler or six pack of choice.
Luckily, you can actually have some tastes before you buy. You can buy pints individually but because there is so much to choose from, I suggest an 8 dollar flight with 4 samples. I split a flight with another person and we sampled 8 different beers. It was hard to keep track– next time I’ll have to write down my faves on paper.
If you are a beer aficionado or have got one in your life don’t miss out on this spot. There aren’t many other places like it in the city!

I came here on a Saturday afternoon with my boyfriend. We were looking for some particular beers that we have read about, and wanted to try.
Such a nice, small shop. The staff is unbelievably knowledgable, and helpful. The selection was excellent.
They have a little area in the back where you can drink beers that are on draft. Unfortunately, I was under the impression that I could buy a bottle, and drink it there. They only allow customers to drink drafts. Next time, I may take a seat. It’s a nice setting without having to be in a «bar».

My suggestion — don’t waste time purveying the amazing beer selection, go straight to the gents behind the desk and ask them. I spent 10 minutes selecting beer and then had the great idea to ask the employees if I’d missed out any local beers. They suggested three hard-​to-​find/​limited beers that I had completely missed. Once they give you the beers, then it’s time to peruse the store. They not only have local beers but beers from smaller breweries across the nation. And yes, they have a little room in the back where tastings can happen! This is our go-​to beer spot in NYC.

Awesome little place in the East Village, with a great selection of beers from across the country and Europe. The best part is their 10 rotating tap mini-​bar. It’s a lot of fun to peruse the store with a pint of well curated beer in hand. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly; store has a Twitter account to advertise latest offerings. Prices are reasonable and you’re bound to find something interesting and new there. Check it out!

Whenever I’m in the area I always try to stop by this beer shoppe/​bar. An impressive selection of beer to go or to stay.
A good changing list with $ 8 samplers and $ 6 – 8 pints for your liking. There are a few tables here and there to sit and enjoy as well as 6-​pack holders for beer-​to-​go. No food to speak of but not entirely necessary.
Definitely a cheap option for craft beers; too bad it’s far off in the distance. Will continue coming back.

This place is pretty cool. Good selection of beer to purchase for yourself, and some decent taps as well.
They have some tables in the back so you can grab a beer with friends, or even do a flight (for a good price as well). Fun atmosphere, can get crowded, but not annoying crowded. I’d say this is more of a day drinking place then a place you’re going to spend the night.
Worth checking out.

These guys know their beer. They purvey a selection of delicious local beers (and cider) on tap, as well as several fridge cases full of bottles. Coming from the Pacific Northwest, I have a very high standard for beer, and this place doesn’t disappoint.
We got a flight (from IPA to sour beer to stout and porter) plus a couple of pints of the cider. Everything was magical.
I’m not gonna lie — if you’re looking for a fun romantic ambiance, this place isn’t it. They have a few tables and chairs in the back you can sit at, but it ain’t luxurious. But that’s kinda the fun.
