Really enjoyed it here. Our large party was accommodated our at short notice with little fuss or bother. Excellent service — the server taking the time to talk us through the menu, making excellent suggestions for our shared plates. All the dishes were very tasty indeed! They have a cute little outdoor space out too.

This is my favorite wine bar in Manhattan! I bring everyone here. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, but they also leave you alone and give you enough space so that you can have an intimate chat with a significant other or friend over a glass of delicious vino. My favorite menu items: fig and ricotta crostini, walnut pesto crostini, brussel sprouts, and the mascarpone and nutella dessert! Ugh so good. The back outdoor garden area is so nice, too!

Understaffed – one waitress doing the whole place when we went. Food appears from behind the bar … I’m not sure how it is made – are they just microwaving dishes? Inexpensive was the plus. But for an Italian joint and wine bar, their Chianti Classico was not good(I think it was the only one on the menu). Can’t recommend for food, wine, or service. Felt like a blown night.

laid back wine bar with good bites. Big fan of the garden, too bad the upstairs neighbor has barred smoking out back. something about wine that makes me want to have an occasional one

Gottino is not quite a restaurant, not quite a bar, and not quite a dessert place… it exists merely to tease customers into what could have been. Upon first glance at the menu, I was confused… a laundry list of $ 8 items that had no connective tissue. After a long day at work, this is not the place to go for a hearty dinner. However — that garden! Wow. Words can’t really describe it, as within 30 steps of the entrance this Greenwich Village outpost transforms into Wonderland. Luscious greens, smiling faces(hungry, smiling faces) create a sense of joy and community that brings me back to a simpler time. Don’t go for the food(there is none) but go for the ambiance. There is no way you will regret your decision, and there are plenty of restaurants in the neighborhood to eat dinner at afterwards. Hope this was helpful — please message me with any concerns.

Disclaimer — This review is only about the wine(and great service!). After a long dinner, my family and I wanted to grab one last drink before calling it a night. This place looked inviting so we popped in — without even referring to Unilocal first(for me, this is a pretty big deal). As soon as we walked in, the waitress helpfully guided my somewhat tipsy family by to a nice large wooden booth(for some reason we were trying to fit around a little table near the stairs). She helped us all chose the perfect wine for our moods — a great dessert wine for my mom(usually I hate dessert wine, but this was incredible), a presecco and amaretti for my dad(sour, bubbly and super refreshing), and a delicious earthy red I cant remember the name of for my brother and I(sorry). The playlist was on point all night too — radiohead, beck… It was such a relaxing and enjoyable experience. Cant’t recommend it enough. They change the wines often, so come by and let them guide you to the perfect glass.

After walking the High Line, ambled over to the West Village and stumbled upon this place. On a wonderful spring day, we were a tad early for dinner but ordered up some wine in the quiet garden, and by the time our small plates arrived, the tables had filled. Plates were a good size to share among four. Savory mushroom crepes were the favorite. Waiter even brought a second order of cassoulet, unasked, because he thought there was too little meat in the first. Great value for interesting, well-prepared food and seasonal ambience.

Walked into the bar on a very quiet night, not full. After waiting 10 minutes for service I ordered 2 dishes and asked about a 3rd. Told the waitress I don’t eat pork so didn’t order the 3rd. Our dish got served and looked suspiciously like crustini with tomato salsa. I tasted it thinking maybe it was how they serve the fish I ordered. Tasted like meat. So I signal the Waitress twice as she’s chatting with the person making the dishes. She ignored me until I signaled again. When she finally came over I asked what that was. He answer is, «not your dish» and quickly took it away. I insisted on her answering me what it was. She said prosciutto. So pork. Which I don’t eat. For religious reasons. She didn’t apologize or look apologetic. And finally our appetizers were served. Not coming back here ever.

Very casual, relaxed, intimate. A lot of fun as well. Everything was good, a bit like Italian tapas. Some very interesting wines, many by the glass, but much more interesting stuff by the bottle. Superb wait staff, very good on wine suggestions.

I love it here, even the tiny mice playing around in the backyard! We’ll actually, they freak me out a bit, but I can deal with them in exchange for a beauty of a backyard in the heart of the village with delicious wine and small plates that are actually kind of huge. This is a local spot that I’ll definitely hold dear beyond summer through to the snowiest winters – I can imagine it’s really cozy then.(And the mice will have gone into hibernation!)

Great ambiance: sexy, calm, cozy, authentic. Date-worthy establishment. $ 13 glasses of wine may not be a cheap ticket to get into this money spot, but ITISMONEY. MONEY.

One of the few lovely places in the Village where one can sit quietly and enjoy a weekend simple-Italian style breakfast(or brunch!, but come early if you want to enjoy absolute peace and serenity«away» from the City. Oh, ya, it’s a wine bar. They do have a wonderful selection and tasty nibbles to go with it!

Cute little wine bar with a great backyard area that my two friends and I randomly found when our initial plans were derailed. The garden area in the back is very cute and feels more private and rural than you might expect in Manhattan. Our waitress was very nice and helpful with the wine selections — she recommended great glasses based on our tastes. We ordered a few different dishes that were all quite delicious: the ricotta, fig and honey toast, the prosciutto toast, the radicchio salad, the brussels sprout salad, and the mushroom and spinach crepes. I’m not usually the kind of girl to rave about a salad over a crostini topped with prosciutto or cheese, but the radicchio salad was truly superb: thin shaved radicchio, a just-sweet-enough dressing, currants, and nuts if I remember correctly. I’m actually looking forward to recreating it at home. The toasts were the perfect nibble to go with the wine. I’d certainly come back if I were in the area, although prices were a tad steeper than I think they should have been.

My friends and I thought to pick a restaurant with outdoor seating — Gottino has a cute, dimly lit backyard with small picnic tables and a mulch ground. Unfortunately, there were a few mice scurrying under the tables through the night and many guests got up and left in disgust. The staff was not helpful, didn’t fill up water, didn’t bring bread when we asked for it, was rude when we asked if a certain dessert was on the menu, and never checked on us during our meal. There are plenty of other places to go if you want a decent(cleaner) restaurant experience. The prices are affordable for tapas, but like most tapas restaurants, don’t expect to get full from the cuisine for the typical cost of a meal in the city.

Cute, small, cozy, dim-lighted, romantic place for a date. I don’t recommend noisy people come here in big groups. Though there was one when I went. Don’t come here to get super full. I’m not a huge wine person so I shouldn’t have come here, but the beers were pretty good too. Not a huge selection of beers, but I think a wine enthusiast will love it here! I explained to the waitress that it was my first time here and didn’t really know where to start in ordering the small plates. She was not very helpful… She simply looked at me and asked, what do you need help with? When I explained to her, she just looked confused and asked if I didn’t know what something on the menu was. So I just dismissed her. Ended up ordering FICHI e RICOTTA crostini and it was the best thing that came out. If I were to come back, that would be the only thing that I would order. The ricotta cheese was perfect with the figs and drizzle of honey… YUMMM Also got Prosciutto Di Parma and that was way too oily and salty. Made my lips shimmer all night. It was decent, but I would rather have had two orders of the The rabbit pot pie was not amazing. Just tasted like a regular pot pie. The brussel sprouts wasn’t that great either. Just tasted like shredded brussel sprouts, which was exactly what it was. Not much flavor. Could have been roasted brussel sprouts and I would have enjoyed that more actually. You can lose track of time here while enjoying glasses of wine and catching up with a friend, but I wouldn’t come back for the food unless it was that crostini with ricotta cheese. YUM

A very disappointing experience; I had a crêpe for my lunch, which was surprisingly very tiny(I would say the size of the plate was almost same as your hand) and half of the crêpe was unbelievably burned! I have never been served such a burnt food in any restaurants in my entire life. I could hardly believe my eyes and hardly ate it!!! I know the prices in New York are pretty expensive, but still it was very hard to believe this tiny burnt terrible food cost $ 9! And the staff even gave me the incorrect bill(which was $ 12 for the crêpe). Glad that I checked the bill carefully! I have never written the review on Unilocal but I thought I should post it as this experience was miserable which made me very, very disappointed. Honestly, one of the worst I’ve had in my life. I will never go back.

On the whole, a disappointing experience; we had the rabbit pie, which had very little rabbit in it, and really tasted like chicken; the smoked salmon was indifferent; very small portions and mediocre service; we won’t go back.

This is my new favorite place. In fact, I loved it so much that I came back a second time in the same week after the first time I tried it and will be hosting my birthday dinner here in a few weeks. Here’s what I absolutely adore about Gottino: — the staff are so knowledgeable about the wine and really go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and comfortable. When you ask for a recommendation, they listen. Then they pull out two glasses and give you two extremely generous pours to taste. All of that for a $ 9-$ 12 glass of wine exceeds all expectations — I’m a wine snob and the quality of what they have here is fantastic and the prices are a steal. The Aglianico Principe is one of my favorites – I love the dry earthiness — It’s really low key and never too crowded, which is such a rare find in the West Village. It’s the perfect intimate setting for people who are trying to avoid something overwhelmingly sceney — It’s a great date spot that won’t break the bank — it’s not just a wine bar – the small plates are delicious. If you’re a fan of octopus, make sure to try theirs — it has a garden in the back! I’m embarrassed to admit that I’ve lived on the same street for almost 2 years and just failed to notice this fantastic yet unassuming little spot. It’s easily missed but if you give it a shot, I’m sure you’ll fall in love as I have. Make sure to sit at the bar – the bartenders are fantastic.

The atmosphere felt cozy and romantic as fostered by the candle light. The server offered a wine recommendation based on our preferences. We ordered two small plates: the arugala pesto with mozzarella and the walnut and honey pesto toasts. We didn’t care for the walnut pesto toasts – they were slightly too sweet. However, we loved the arugala pesto toasts. The staff was available when we wished to order more, but they did not come to the table unless we called them over. All in all, we enjoyed our visit but are in no hurry to return. And I could not write this review without cautioning other customers about leaving your coat on the rack. My friend hung up her coat, but we weren’t worried because we were sitting within site of the rack. Whenever we went to leave, my friend panicked when she realized her coat was missing, and in its stead was an old, grey jacket with a broken zipper. This could’ve happened anywhere, but the dark nature of the space was such that the incident occurred undetected. Just some friendly words of caution!

Extremely cozy, the garden when the weather permits is delightful. The cavoletti salad is unforgetable, chic and an innovative spin on brussel sprouts. Like steppping from West Village to Italy, excellent selection of wines, robust and full bodied to sparkling proseco. Excellent for a date, destination for brunch or enjoying a glass of wine amongst friends on any NYC night.

I’m giving them two stars, when I really want to give them one… I arrived with a friend and expected another to join us. We were understanding when they did not want to seat us until our party was complete, and pleasantly surprised when they offered us a table a few minutes later, still before our friend arrived. Then, we were systematically ignored for the rest of the evening, save for a few terse and uncomfortable interactions. For example, after waiting for about 10 minutes, our waiter finally asked if we’d like anything to drink. We ordered a bottle of wine and said«actually, we can go ahead and give you our food order, too.» The response? «One thing at a time!» I’m not joking. We eventually did order food and waited for our friend. And when he arrived? NOONE greeted him, NOONE poured him wine, and NOONE came to take a drink or food order from him. THEENTIRENIGHT. We all agreed we would have ordered plenty of more food and at least another bottle of wine had anyone come back over. But the wait staffed walk directly by our table again and again. To be honest, I was surprised they even brought the check. It was a miserable experience. One of the worst I’ve had in a while. The only reason it’s getting an extra star is because the food was amazing. Absolutely not worth the treatment though. I hope the GM has a serious discussion with his staff.

INSHORT: An unassuming, cozy space in the West Village that raises the bar for wine bars throughout the city. While it’s open until 2AM every night of the week, weeknight guests tend to clear out by midnight, leaving a quiet and intimate space for those trying to hide away. THESTORY: With its long, white marble bar dominating the space and its comprehensive list of well-priced wines by the bottle or glass, Gottino is clearly an elegant wine bar. But when chef Jody Williams of Morandi is involved, the very notion of the wine bar is transformed into something exceptionally fitting for New York. The menu of snacks and small bites is expertly curated, the sort of stuff of any cheese and charcuterie lover’s dreams. While the friendly and talkative staff behind the bar will certainly recommend their favorite pairings, the Crostini selection for $ 8 should be enjoyed with every visit, and the Pesto Di Noci with walnut pesto, parmesan, and thyme on thick, rustic bread could easily complete the hearty meal everyone is craving. In this case, that very meal can be satisfied, surprisingly, at a wine bar.

Small, intimate wine bar with a modest selection of wines. Fairly expensive, I had three glasses of wine and my friend had three also. We picked four items off the menu to try and the bill was about $ 120 without tip. Tried to sit in the back garden but there were far too many flying bugs back there to make it enjoyable. They might need to install a bug zapper or spray the area down. But, we had enough seating inside. It can get kind of loud in the bar, there were a few times I couldn’t hear my friend. Otherwise the service was good to average. They weren’t overly friendly i’d give tjem a 6.5 out of 10. Good enough. Not sure if I would be back anytime soon. There’s simply other places I can spend my money and for a bit less around the West Village, like Anfora(which I reviewed) and others. Overall, I think 3 to 3.5 stars covers this. I didn’t walk away thinking«Wow, I have to go back», it was OK.

This little spot located in the west village seemed to be a great spot to cozy up with a bottle of wine and share some stories. Decent selection of wines, but that’s about as much alcohol as they have. They don’t have any liquors so don’t expect any mixed drinks of any kind. We did not try any of the food, but the ambiance was very intimate if you were looking for a good date spot. I wish the garden in the back was open(as stated in the window), but we made it work. I won’t go out of my way to try it, but I am happy I made it over here finally.

Gottino looks like an amazing place to have drinks with friends and catch up. As it was lunch time, we just ordered a few plates to share. Their wine menu looks pretty extensive though! We started off with an order of the Prosciutto Di Parma, aged 24 months and shipped in from Italy. This was served with a side of bread and olive oil. We both haven’t had prosciutto in a while so this really hit the spot. We decided to go with two Crostinis — Pesto Di Noci, or walnut pesto with parmesan and thyme, and one with goat cheese, fig, honey and crushed almonds. The walnut pesto was okay — it takes a few bites before you get used to the flavor. The goat cheese, however, was super delicious. It was sweet and tart at the same time because of the honey and the fig. The crushed almonds contrasted nicely with the smoother texture of the goat cheese. Definitely give this one a try! ‘Our last shared plate was the Steamed Egg served with Smoked Salmon. The steamed eggs were nice and hot when they arrived. It tasted pretty good by itself but it tasted even better when put on bread with salmon. The smoked salmon was very flavorful and very fresh. Service was attentive and on point. We received our dishes in a stacked manner so we weren’t overwhelmed by food. They don’t have a real kitchen so everything is prepared by the bar area.
