Grasshopper Pilates Downtown is located in our new home at 151 Spring Street. In the heart of Soho is this beautiful loft that is a fully equipped classical Pilates studio. The studio has been designed with a clean, simple modern sensibility that enhances the old-​fashioned charm of a traditional Soho loft space. Airy and light-​filled, the ambience at Grasshopper Pilates Downtown is warm, gracious and welcoming, although the workout is functional, serious and challenging. All of our teachers are classically certified pilates instructors. We offer Privates, Duets, Semi Privates and Tower and Mat Classes. Something for everyone, from the beginner to the serious pilates pro.

History

Established in 2000.

Grasshopper Pilates Downtown opened in September 2000 by classically certified Pilates instructor Gina Papalia. Gina was certified 1996 and taught in Tribeca for 4 years then started her own business out of a friends boxing gym on White Street in 2000. In September 2003, Grasshopper Pilates Downtown opened up at 116 Franklin Street in Tribeca. Grasshopper grew and thrived in that space for almost 5 years. Then Grasshopper moved to 515 Broadway for another 6 thriving years. We are now in our new home on Spring Street and loving it!

Business Owner

Owner & Master Teacher lives in New York City with her husband & 2 children. Gina graduated with a BFA in Dance & a minor in Arts Management from SUNY Purchase. While studying at Purchase, Gina was introduced to Pilates & fell in love with the challenges of pilates & started her training there in January of 1995. Gina moved to New York City & was certified in pilates & continued her dance training & danced most of her career with the Dance Theatre of Harlem.

While pursuing her career as a professional dancer, Gina studied Pilates under two icons of today’s world of Pilates, Romana Kryzanowska and Bob Liekens, earning her certification from the Pilates Studio of New York in 1996. Gina opened her first studio in 2000 at Tribeca Sports Center, which blossomed into her own studio that opened in Tribeca 2003, Grasshopper Pilates Downtown. Grasshopper is in our new home in Soho at 151 Spring Street.
