My husband got my beautiful antique engagement from Gray and Davis. After the surprise/​proposal he told me about his purchasing experience. He said he was between a few rings at a few different places but then he found the perfect one at gray and Davis. He said not only did he love the ring but he had such a great experience with the people who worked with him. A few months later when I was looking for my wedding band we went back to Gray and Davis and I got to see what he was talking about. Such a wonderful group of people, so friendly and knowledgeable. I ended up finding the perfect antique wedding band with them! My husband has since gone back and bought me a beautiful pearl and diamond ring for my birthday. It is so nice to know that my rings have come from a place that we now have such a great relationship with. We both highly recommend Gray and Davis!

I’m not used to having all the attention on me and was very timid about going into a jewelry store to try on different engagement rings with my boyfriend. The selection was small but beautiful. Each piece was unique and beautifully displayed.
Ali put me at ease. She was super knowledgeable and very patient with the questions I had. It was very interesting to learn about the different styles that represent the various time periods. I picked a beautiful ring and cannot wait for my boyfriend to propose to me. The price was reasonable and the experience was more relaxing than I thought.

My personal experience was no less stellar. I emailed on a Friday morning, using the website form, and got an email back in record time. Ali very kindly offered to re-​size my ring and told me that if I came in around Noon, they would likely have it finished by 5pm.
I came over at about 12:10, we decided on a size (thanks for the guidance, Ali), and I received a call on my cell at 4:15 that my ring was ready! Talk about lightning fast!
Ali was kind and helpful the entire time and the service went above and beyond. I will highly recommend them to anyone looking for antique/​vintage jewelry. Hopefully we’ll be back again!

I love this place! It may be small but it has a great selection– I worked with Ali to find the perfect wedding band to go with a very unusual engagement ring. She is very knowledgeable and happy to answer all of your questions, and is super responsive by email or phone.
I ended up going with an art deco band, Ali expertly added a piece so it would fit well and did a beautiful job with the engraving.
I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for an off beat or antique ring! Their prices are pretty great too :)

I could not share enough positive experiences with this place. Ali and her team (Anna, Laura) did an excellent job about both my engagement and wedding bands. It was a last minute request/​order, however, they made it happen within 7 business days, which was like a miracle! The rings came out beautifully, it was quiet breath taking!!! Highly recommended

I never wanted an engagement ring but I wanted something beautiful, original and antique that I would wear as a wedding ring. As we usually roll it was days before our wedding and we didn’t have any rings so we went to the diamond district. As a girl who doesn’t care about cut clarity or color I was skeptical but we just sauntered into Gray and Davis and it was all the most beautiful antique rings I could imagine. They had deco, Victorian, we loved everything in the shop so we just had to find what suited us the best. We ended up settling on a beautiful Edwardian ring with multiple old mine diamonds and intricate metal work done in platinum. It looked beautiful on my finger. The staff was great and never made us feel like they were trying to up-​sell as the other ring we were considering was more expensive. They were super attentive and made us feel like they wanted us to have the ring that was meant for us. The price was reasonable and I ended up getting a ring that was much more beautiful than I imagined I’d have. It was so much fun every time I look at my ring I’m reminded of how much I love my husband and what fun we had scrambling for rings before the wedding. I recommended the shop to a friend and they had a similar experience. I really couldn’t be happier.

Ali at Gray and Davis helped to restore some vintage rings and jewelery that was left to me from my grandmother. She gave me impeccable service and restored my jewels to brand new. She took extra care to my special sentimental pieces. I was beyond thrilled of how beautiful she repaired my rings. I would def go back to her again.

I had a lovely 18k white gold chain and pendant with 3 vertically stacked sapphires, each surrounded by diamonds. The piece was a gift from many years ago that I didn’t wear much. I thought it was a shame to have such pretty stones sit at the bottom of my jewelry box so I brought the necklace to Gray & Davis who brainstormed some re-​design ideas with me at various price points. Once I decided on the idea of turning the pendant into a ring, set on a slim white gold band they were able to turn it around in only a few days. They created a beautiful ring for me that I wear all the time and have received numerous compliments on (unsolicited and from strangers!) I have also admired many of the amazing antique pieces Gray & Davis stocks and look forward to when I can call one of them my own!

I consulted with Ali from Gray & Davis to design a gift for a girlfriend of mine. She is really into her weener dog Shlepper and knew she would love a weener dog necklace. I spent some time looking online, but everything looked very cheap. I described to Ali what I wanted and she sent me a few sketches. I picked the one that looked most like Shlepper in my mind. The final product was perfect… I couldn’t be happier. The gift was a huge success and the Shlepper Weener necklace has been worn daily for over 5 years now with no issues.

Ali Cervellero at Gray & Davis is an unbelievable jewerly designer! This is coming from someone who is very particular and difficult to please. I have worked with Ali on several pieces over the last 6 years. The first was a «push present» for my wife after our 1^st child was born. I simply showed her a picture of a very intricate ring from Tiffanys that I wanted to get for her with our son’s birthstone. She came back with something 10 times better than the picture I gave her, it was amazing and made my wife cry when I gave it to her on her first Mother’s Day.
The 2^nd item was also a push present for the birth of our daughter, which happened to be in April, birthstone = diamond. In this case, Ali came up with an awesome idea of taking the 1^st diamond I ever gave my wife, pre-​engagement, which a was a solitaire necklace, and create a new necklace with 3 diamonds. The new necklace would consist of a big beautiful diamond in the middle and two smaller ones on each side, such that one day we could give the 2 side diamonds, one of which was the first diamond I gave my wife, to our daughter for her 1^st pair of diamond earings. So not only a great a designer, but a personal touch with great ideas on how to present a gift. This one was a huge hit as well, especially given the idea of it also being a future gift for our daughter.
Finally, this past winter I asked Ali to help me design a special new pair of diamond earrings for my wife’s 40^th birthday, but I didn’t want just the typical pair of solitaire diamond earrings. Instead she came up with an awesome diamond halo idea and even hand delivered to us in order to surprise my wife while we had an intimate early birthday dinner. Again, a special designer with a personal touch. A picture of those earrings are attached, they are unbelievable! Tough to capture how great they came out in a picture.

When my [now] husband and I, first discussed getting engaged after 6+ years of dating, my first thought was: its time to start looking at rings! Listen, after 6+ years of dating, my hubby knows me well enough to not choose something by himself. After countless hours trying on various diamond rings all over the Manhattan (5^th, Madison, and Soho) I could not find a single thing that I loved, and quite honestly I was more than sick of dealing with all the snobby woman showing the rings, none of which seemed to know anything about different styles or cuts, all they really seemed to be trained in was perfecting the art of eye-​rolling.
And then there was Gray & Davis! Ali sat with me for hours listening to me explain what I liked and disliked about all of the rings I had tried on. Then she suggested something I hadn’t even considered, «why don’t we try a custom ring?». Hmm… I told her I was nervous– I mean I didn’t even really know exactly what I wanted, but she told me to relax, and that she can start my making me a (commitment-​free) sketch.
About a week later I received an email with the sketch of my dream design! It seemed to incorporate everything I loved from the other rings, and none of the elements that I didn’t. She listened to everything I had said, with more patience than I could ever imagine one person having, and turned my confused idea into the perfect ring! When my husband proposed 2 months later, I literally dove for the ring and spent the night staring at the love of my life that I would get to spend forever with (I am obviously talking about my amazing ring)!!
Obviously, when it was time to order wedding bands, I returned to Ali at Gray & Davis, to have the perfect custom bands designed! And on my one year anniversary, I once again returned to Ali, to have a 3^rd band– this time an eternity band, with all of the impeccable hand-​engraved leaf and bezel detailing set in platinum– to compliment my 2 other rings.
Whether you are looking for engagement rings or just a stunning new piece for your collection, Gray & Davis is the best place in NYC! There are tons of vintage sparkly goodies, which Ali can tell you all about in great detail (from the era its from, the history of each piece, and everything you can imagine about the different types of stones and metals) — or you could go custom like I did!!!

My grandmother wore a small rose gold watch, wedding band and pendant for almost 70 years of her 94 year life. I was extremely close with her and when she passed away I was given these items by my family. Although I had no use for them physically these items had great sentimental value and they sat in a drawer for a many years. I came across Gray and Davis after a girl I met at a party kept talking about how she had an old ring from her grandma reformed to something she could wear. I decided to let Gray and Davis make something for me out of those 3 items that a guy could wear. Initially I thought they would suggest cufflinks or a tie clip, etc… but when they sent me a detailed sketch of a cuff bracelet with a hammered finish and my grandmas initials inscribed on the underside made from the gold of the original items I was beyond impressed. I wear this bracelet every day. I get complements on it all the time. I am certain my beloved grandma would approve of what was done and how she is still with me every day. Anyone with old jewelry in a drawer that they don’t wear should contact Gray and Davis.

Gray & Davis is truly an awesome antique jewelry store. Gray was patient, thoughtful, insightful and sweet throughout the entire process. The service is impeccable and the selection consists of a huge range of beautiful, unique and well-​priced antique items. Gray and Ali were a pleasure to deal with as my fiancé and I selected antique wedding bands. Each time my fiancé was about to put on a ring, Gray quickly observed her as if to read what she was thinking at first glance of seeing the ring on her finger. Gray clearly has alot of knowledge of antique jewelry and was very pleasant in giving some of her insight as she guided us.
It was our first time in the Diamond District and initially we felt overwhelmed by the bustling area, but Gray and Ali made for a very warm, pleasant experience. For other first time Diamond District shoppers, do yourselves a favor and seek Gray and Davis out if you aren’t finding what you are looking for or get skiddish with all the merchandise there is to see. We will be visiting this antique jewelry oasis for many years to come and hope you do the same.

Gray & Davis is truly an antique jewelry mecca with great service and a range of price-​points. The women running the booth are extremely knowledgeable about their wares, which span from the 1700s to the mid-​20^th century.
My partner and I were torn between two engagement rings — a two-​tone art nouveau piece and an art deco white gold mount (which would need to have stones put in). For their mounts, they apparently source all of their stones from antiques, as well, adding to the air of authenticity and perhaps mitigating ethical concerns about conflict diamonds.
Ultimately, we chose the ready-​made art nouveau ring, and they knocked off $ 55 at the check-​out as a token of good will. Wrapped it up in an adorable vintage-​style box and we were good to go.
Now, the question is: when will my boyfriend actually propose?!!

I dropped of a vintage rattle for machine engraving on a wednesday and was told it takes about two hours and that it would be ready for pickup the next day. I called back on Friday (as I had not yet received a call telling me it was ready) and was told it wasn’t ready but that it would be ready on Saturday. I told them I wasn’t going to be able to pick it up on Saturday so no worries — just have it ready by Monday because I had to have it by then.
I called back on Monday and it wasn’t ready. I was told they would check with the jeweler and call me right back. I called back an hour later (again, I didn’t receive a call) and was berated by the owner Gray for calling so many times and getting frustrated that my item wasn’t ready DAYS after when I was told it would be. When I politely asked what the delay was the response I received was a snotty «have you heard about the hurricane?»
Why yes, indeed I had heard about the hurricane which had happened more than a week prior to me dropping off my item. Had there been residual delays caused by the storm I could certainly understand but then I shouldn’t have been told that my item would be ready the next day.
I never once became angry and still the owner suggested that I take my business elsewhere (which I will certainly do in the future). Never in my wildest dreams could I imagine being that late/​behind and then getting angry at the customer for calling to check in for updates.
Do not use for engraving services.

Well, every other review of this place gives them 5 stars, so they really don’t need my review saying how awesome this place is, but I’ll give it anyway. :)
My first encounter with Gray was a little over a year ago when I first got engaged and was very excited to start my search for a wedding band. My fiancé had given me his great-grandmother’s Edwardian solitaire that I fell in love with immediately. Well, I wanted an antique vintage band to go with my antique E-​ring, so I did a little research and cam across Gray & Davis. I went down to browse, and met Gray, who took one look at my E-​ring and could tell me spot-​on just about everything about it. VERY knowledgeable. She then went on to show me lots of beautiful options, all within my budget that could go with my ring. She never pressured me to go above my budget, and was so patient with me. I went back several more times as it was so far in advance of my wedding, and I wasn’t immediately able to pick one out.
As I said I went back several times to try pieces and Ali, who also helped me, was just as patient and attentive as I tried more pieces and narrowed my choices down. I finally settled on a stunning band with 7 diamond chips that Ali gave me a fantastic price for. But not only that, she recommended a jeweler that then did custom engraving on the sides of the band to match the engravings on my E-​ring. It took a couple days longer than Ali initially told me it would to get the engraving done, but it was WELL WORTH the wait. The ring is absolutely stunning and matches my E-​ring beautifully!
I will be back to Gray & Davis for all of my antique jewelry needs!

This team of ladies in the Diamond District are as good as the hype suggested in other reviews. Although they didn’t have the rose gold chain I was looking for, they pointed me to a vendor across the isle who was equally as pleasurable to buy from.
If you are looking for vintage, unique jewelry from around the 16^th to early 20^th centuries, this is a perfect place to begin your quest. You can also email Gray to see if she can describe anything she might have in stock to match your specifications. I emailed her in the morning and got a response within a few hours; great communication and service.
Should you desire a particular gold chain and it’s the wrong shade of gold, they can dip it in the correct color for around $ 40-​$ 60 dollars on average; it just depends on the strand, length, and amount of gold it would take to get the job done.
On a side note, there were a few engagement rings that were astonishingly affordable and drop dead gorgeous. I’m all ready spoken for and set in the wedding/​engagement rings department. But wow! You can really get something special for your future wife here.
Regardless, make a visit 15 W 47^th Street, Booth #1 on occasion to see some really interesting pieces for sale. You never know what you might find.

Wonderful service. We purchased my vintage art deco engagment ring from Gray and she was very helpful and wanted to make sure I got exactly what I wanted. They replaced the center stone and reworked the setting for us and they were also willing to change out accent stones as well. Lovely store with excellent selection.

Recently bought an antique engagement ring from Gray — she was nice, fun and knowledgeable — and when it came down to it, more than reasonable in negotiations. A+++

The service is fantastic and Bernard and Gray have both excellent taste and amazing patience. My fiancé bought my engagement ring from Bernard and Gray. In the limited conversations we had before he bought it all I really knew was that I wanted something with a past. He found these two, and bought the most beautiful ring. My first experience with them was to have my ring sized. Having never sized a ring before I was pretty terrible at knowing what to do, and Bernard and Gray were amazing with getting me through it.
When it came time to buy our wedding bands we went back to the dynamic duo. My fiancé found the perfect band amidst their beautiful vintage collection, and they did an excellent job of modifying my mother’s band so that I could wear it. These two are a wonderful pair, and their shop is filled with treasures. We will be sure to go back for any fine jewelry purchases in the future!
