H&R Block

The office had a sign out front offering 50% off for clients who switch from another service. I clearly told my accountant that I had switched from TurboTax and I was not given the discount. Also I tried to call H&R Block to get the money back, and they said it was not meant for people who had switched from TurboTax — despite their false advertisement.
The accountant I worked with spent 30 minutes on my taxes, and I was charged nearly $ 700. She did not seem able to answer some simple questions, and I’m concerned about the accuracy of my return. Don’t go here!!!

Now everyone I want you to understand that I waited all day to write this review because I have noticed that when you review something in the heat of the moment your honest opinion isnt being voiced. Its your anger and resentment that’s pouring out. So now that my moment of anger has passed im going to explain how I feel about this branch. I came in and did my taxes, paid about 170 bucks in fees and left satisfied. I find out the next day the Bank account numbers were wrong for my direct deposit and call the branch manager Jeanette Williams up to correct the mistake. She states that I should just call IRS and see what they can do about it because she does’nt know, then tells me shes in a meeting and cant talk and just hangs up. I decide to take her advice and call the IRS only to be on hold for about 45 minutes. I then walk into the H&R Block branch and speak with Jeanette and she says since they cant change the Account numbers im just going to have to wait for the check in the mail. No biggie. I can wait a few more weeks for the money. Its not that serious. So then I ask her about the fees that I was charged for the direct deposit RAC fee which was $ 34.95, and also a $ 13.00 fee for NY state to transfer my refund to my bank account. She says that I wont be getting that back and stutters while trying to figure out an excuse and comes up with «thats the branches fee «. (Keep in mind im not getting anything transferred anymore since the account numbers were wrong and have to resort to waiting for my check in the mail) Not only did she have an attitude about the whole thing, she tried to make me feel stupid about every question I was asking her. Ladies & Gentleman theres not much I can say about this place. They will act like the nicest people until they’ve got you ready to pay them. Once you’ve paid… you’re not their concern anymore. They just want the next customer. H&R Block has dropped the bar when it comes to hiring new employees. Every review about this place is all bad. I can see why now from experience.
Update: I came in once again and dealt with Barbara and had a much better experience. She has done my taxes for the past 2 years now and I’ve had nothing but a good experience! Go see Barbara only if you go.

My tax specialist made a mistake on my W-​2 told me to come in and to re-​mail them out. When I asked a different tax specialist why I had to do this she got extremely defensive. I just want to know what specific changes they made so I know what I’m signing. She was extremely derogatory to me. I told her in my voicemail that the tax specialist said the mistake was because of my address change (due to moving) — The lady gave me a WTH? look and said «um, no it’s not it’s because you only needed to fill out 1 w-​2 versus 3» so I PLAYED the voicemail for her, she (and I) got more frustrated and told me «we usually charge extra for this!» in which I replied «Why would I pay extra when I didn’t make the mistake.» I ended up scheduling an appointment with MY tax specialist for the next day which she explained to me in 5 minutes what happened…
TL;DR: Rude Staff, Made mistake on my taxes (not a major mistake)
Update: I had to file an Addendum with a different H&R Block tax specialist 1 year after I wrote this review. #sigh (minus 1 star)

Truly a terrible branch — we made the mistake of switching from our original preparer to another, much less experienced one at this branch for better availability, and this was a huge blunder.
The new guy was absolutely terrible and took almost 5 hours (stretched over 2 days) to complete the return, and I’m pretty sure he did a super crappy job, as he seemed to have a hard enough time just doing data entry, much less dispensing any kind of tax advice.
Avoid this branch at all costs.

W2s & 1040s have nothing to do with spiritual nourishment.
If one of the tax-​preparers leads a congregation this factoid should remain private. And by private I mean don’t hand out fliers for a particular house of worship.
While a tax return is good for the soul, people come to H&R Block for number-​crunching. Not for the Rapture.

Horrible service, disorganized and not professional.
