Dr Ort and his staff were the nicest people!
He is a very straight forward dentist (which may be what some regarded as negative.)
I personally found him to be very knowledgable and very meticulous toward his work.
I am ashamed to admit that I have been avoiding the dentist for well over a year.
My experiences with dental work have been less than pleasant. I wish I could have found this clinic sooner. I would have been much more inclined to keep up with my tooth care.
Dr Ort explained the procedures to me and allowed for little breaks in what became a full car wash teeth cleaning.
My teeth were really horrid.
I can’t tell you how much cleaner my teeth simply feel after this one visit.
I highly recommend !!!

Dr. Ort is a good dentist. He has a gruff but pleasant demeanor and his office receptionist Frank is very friendly. His hygienist is thorough and does a good job cleaning.

As far as all the negative reviews regarding the rude man on the phone, I believe that may be the doctor speaking? Please correct me if I’m wrong but I have no words for this man except he’s damn rude and likes to hang up the phone.
I would not bother making an appointment with this office.

I have always been looking for a reliable Dentist in NYC and after several attempts I’ve finally found a Dentist I can go back to on a regular basis. Dr. Ort is very thorough and every one of his staff has been very friendly. The whole experience has been very pleasant.

Receptionist had the worst attitude ever. He was rude and told me to go directly to an oral surgeon for an extraction and to not «waste my time seeing Dr. Ort» when I simply said «I think I see my wisdom teeth making an appearance.» I requested that the Dr. see my teeth and see if this was indeed necessary and the receptionist told me «he can’t see you for at least 2 weeks.»

I found Dr. Ort through Unilocal after becoming tired of making the 80 mile round trip to see my Dentist in my old neighborhood. I was anxious about having to find a new Dentist here in NYC, as I’m a bit anxious going to any dentist to begin with. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The staff are very friendly and polite, and Dr. Ort is competent and thorough, yet gentle enough not to make you uncomfortable. I was due for a complete exam and cleaning. The exam went well with no work necessary, and he did a very thorough cleaning which he did himself. I will definitely become a regular patient and do my follow up dental appointments here. If you’re looking for a good old fashioned Dentist, he’s definitely a fine choice. Oh, and his prices are reasonable too, especially important if you don’t have dental coverage.

I called on a Sunday afternoon and very politely began with… «Hi, I’m having a bit of a dental emergency…» To which the man on the other end of the line rudely said, «It is Sunday! We are Closed!!» I said, «I’m sorry, I didn’t know.» And he hung up on me. Wow.

Pays lots of attention to every patient and takes his time, I would recommend him.

Great ‘old school’ service & professionalism. Highly recommend.

Dr, Ort did not perform any work on me but was able to answer my questions when I had an emergency situation. He was very thorough and sincere, and referred me to other specialists to take care of my problem (root canal).

i was recommended to dr. ort from a coworker who lives in the building. after my move from philly, finding new providers like doctors, a hairdresser, dentist, etc, was something i was NOT looking forward to do. relationships with these people in your life are forged so deep, you just don’t want to start over. it’s like finding a new sig other. will i like him/​her? what if i get disappointed? can i take yet ANOTHER bad haircut?
but after seeing d. r ort all my fears were put aside. remnant of a shorter stanley tucci, his demeanor is soothing, yet controlled. you just knew this was a guy who knew what he was doing and would do it with care & precision. when we talked about what brought me there, he was attentive, and patient. and during my subsequent visits ranging from a night guard to fillings, he made sure everything was perfect. no detail was left unnoticed, and every move & instrument was explained. his receptionist, frank is also very friendly and warm. always ready with a straight-​faced joke, he sometimes catches you off guard. the office is well maintained and clean. getting an appointment should also be pretty easy. i’ve usually been able to get one within the following wk due to my crazy schedule.
i have to say i was extremely happy with my first dental date. we have been seeing each other for a few months now, and i am looking forward to a happy future ahead of us!

new to the neighborhood, i needed an emergency dentist. all of the reviews are real and helpful. The doctor was super nice and very professional, as well as the staff. The office is in an apt building, which is weird, but i think is somewhat normal in NYC. Other then that, i was very happy with the service, cleanliness of the office and gentleness of Dr. Harold. My wife needs some work and i will certainly send her here.

Dr Ort has been my dentist for several years. He and his staff are friendly, professional and thorough. I recently had a very old filling redone and I never felt any pain during or after the procedure. Dr. Ort is very thorough in his examinations and explanations.

While on vacation in NYC, I had severe tooth pain and called Dr. Ort on his emergency number. I called Friday night and the Dr. offered to see me first thing Saturday morning. (New Year’s Eve). He was very personable, professional and did as much as he possibly could until I could see a specialist (it seems I need a fairly complex root canal procedure). His clinic is small, but clean and bright, and his bill was very reasonable. If I were a NYC resident, Dr. Ort would most certainly be my regular dentist! Highly recommended!

Dentist may be my least favorite doctor to visit, but this is as good as it gets. The whole staff is very friendly. Debbie, the assistant, always makes small talk and really seems interested in your life and what you have going on! Dr. Ort is extremely personable too!
Also, I have had dentists in the past where the assistant cleans — so it is nice that that actual, trained, expert is cleaning my teeth! He is very gentle, and will put numbing cream on before hand if I ask {also something hard to come by with past dentists!}
I also had really bad problems one time with my gums and he squeezed me in two hours later when I was originally told I couldn’t see him for at least 3 more days {did his best to help, but eventually recommended me to a periodontist who is also amazing I might add!}
The office is tiny but intimate, I have never had to wait more than 5 minutes, and you always get gifts when you leave (well, toothbrush, floss etc, I guess those are a dentist’s versions of gifts, but still!). And they always send a birthday card — very considerate!
