Fire hazard inside with people packed from wall to wall. Bouncers are unfriendly but that isn’t surprising. Got yelled at as I waited patiently and quietly outside for my friend to get out. I was apparently«too close to the neighbor’s apartment front door» even though I was on the sidewalk. I proposed a question to him to ponder which I didn’t receive an answer to. «Do you think your neighbor would be more mad at someone standing quietly on the public sidewalk right outside their apartment or at a bar that blasts music till the early morning hours?»

Perfect for what it is. I was at a quieter wine bar near by on a Saturday night and asked where we should transition for a more lively atmosphere and maybe some dancing. He suggested this place. Total dive. Everyone seemed to be having fun and the crowd was eclectic from some more preppy types to women with nose rings(no word on whether or not they were permanent). Anyway, the door wasn’t too tough, though as a result it was pretty crowded and we had to pay cover but I have a great time and would definitely return.

Yay! Olivia —(I think that was her name)… Anyway. Killer bar, chill atmosphere, totally secretive spot if you know you want to escape the dance-dance parties that are the LES. Taxidermy. Disco Ball. Whiskey. Rock and Roll. Don’t come here because I love it and you’ll crowd the place. Just kidding.

Gross. Large Disgusting Grungy basement with overpriced drinks. Looks like a Dive but 7 dollars for a Bud light bottle. pass. Not a pleasant place to be in. Chugs beer, walks out.

I’m here in the early evening on Jan 1st of 2016 it’s basically empty. It’s in a basement so u can imagine I missed it and had to walk back. Lol It’s cool decorations, I love all the animal specimens. Just let you know, they don’t do cocktails… So we just ordered some beer and mixed liquor. Price is really good. Lol it’s bit wired that just after 2 rounds of drinks, the bartender closed our taps, tho she’s still working, not switch shifts or something. Feels like ok u guys are the last 2 persons, please also leave…

I will NEVER come here again! My friends and I stood in line for over 20 minutes before the«head» security guard said one of my friends was too drunk to go in. No issue for 20 minutes and when a «high roller» who keeps mentioning a «negro bar» wants to come in then there’s an issue? That’s fucking ridiculous.

Come for the dancing, stay for the people you came with. Expect a line to get in after 10. The music is usually a weird mix of 80s, 90s &2000’s but none of it really flows together. So it’s best to come when you’re already tipsy & all music is «your favorite song’. There are definitely better dance spots around the city to go to if you like other types of music more upscale crowds.

Yikes, what a strange experience. A friend of a friend convinced us to come here to meet up with a group. Since we were near by we figured we’d check it out. It was around 12 on a Saturday night. When we got there we were hoping this was gonna be a cool spot. It looked promising. Then we heard about the $ 3 cover – How strange, we thought, 3 dollars is a super random price for a cover. But whatever we paid it. We got inside and it was absolutely packed. It took us forever to get to the bar and once there my friend couldn’t even flag down a bartender to get us drinks so we(unfortunately) made our way to the dance floor. The music was fine, it was incredibly random, no real flow to what they were playing. I’m all for switching genres and decades, but it mostly just seemed abrupt. in the 10 minutes we were there it got more and more crowded. Getting out was dangerously difficult, and in the off chance that there was an emergency it didn’t seem like a great situation. I felt like I was back in college at an over crowded house party where you can barely move and you have to be incredibly drunk for that to be fun. Maybe we’ll try this spot out again earlier in the night or on a different night, but probably not.

We got here early one Friday night — its a slow, casual start. Quite grungy and hipster, with similar themed music. Then within a few hours the place is transformed, and everyone is dancing — music becomes a mix of commercial pop, r&b, house, 90s — lots of fun! Be wary of the dancefloor though — uneven — don’t want any broken ankles now!

SUPERRUDEBARTENDER! I will never return to this place due to the treatment my friends and I received by the grimy punk ass looking bartender this past Sunday night. We were looking for a cheap bar in the neighborhood to go to and stumbled upon this place. It was on the earlier side, and totally empty. I asked the bartender if there were any happy hour specials and he said no. When I jokingly mentioned that there was more of a crowd last time i had been there, he said, «You’re drinking at 6:00 on a Sunday, what do you expect?» Totally condescending and RUDE. We then left and said we’re gonna give our business to a bartender who is actually nice. He responded, «Okay cool.» He was clearly miserable. Not my fault you work at a bar, bro. Be nice to your customers or get a job in a different industry.

Neither I nor my friends will EVER return here again for the reason outlined below: The bouncer/doorman(specifically the one who resembles a small/short Mike Tyson) was so verbally aggressive, rude and generally disrespectful to our group that we will never return, recommend or patronize this business ever again. Management — please perform greater due diligence when hiring and training your security staff and ensure patrons are treated like guests and not prisoners awaiting some form of arcane sentencing as they enter and leave your establishment. Customers come to your place with the trust that you have hired decent, well-tempered and safe people who will treat them respectfully during their visit. Please take this trust more seriously and do a better job vetting those charged with their safety at the lounge. There is absolutely no excuse for the doorman’s «vitriolic power-tripping at the expense of customers» behavior! I will resist the blatant irony of your lounge being called«Home Sweet Home» in light of the seriousness of this post.

This is what a HAPPYHOUR should be. Uncompromised and bullsh*t free. There are no bozos or nitwits. There are are no self-entitled brats. Early in the week is perfect and the bartender(I think his name is Ian) has great taste in music. The drinks are inexpensive. It’s dark. It’s cold. It’s the opposite of the nightmare which consumes most of nyc. If this bar was a person, I would take him home and suck his d*ck. Just kidding. It sounded funny.

This bar is f#%&*# awesome. It is the epitome of a punk rock dive bar that done growed up. The bar itself is super cool with artifact display cases right beneath the surface level throughout. Great music that stays true to the character of the spot; no weak ass Katy Perry coming through the speakers here. The bartenders are Hesher as f*ck but very friendly and actually damn good«mixologists» hahahaha, but seroiusly, they pour with a heavy hand and a smile, which is all you need at 230 in the Bowery.

*** Dark venue, Music is a huge range, Standard drinks *** Cover fee and you’re required to coat check. This does not make me happy already. But, I wasn’t much of a fan because the music was a huge range of different genres that I didn’t like the inconsistency. This is probably a great place if you’re extremely drunk and with a large group. I will say the security guard was helpful in directing me to the bathroom and the bathrooms are fairly clean.

This was a cool place. Went here at about 2am from another place, and really enjoyed it. Fun ambiance, little doo-wop music, cool bartenders. It was a nice place to have a drink and down time after a crazier/more packed place. Would definitely come here again on a quirky date or something

we got here on sunday at like 10 and it was VERY slow. I loved it. It was super chill, dark, and a stark contrast between the Fig bar upstairs(which apparently is the same owner) very different vibe and clientele… the music was a good mix, the drinks were good and cheap, the bartender was very nice and friendly, and the drinks were cheap! started to pick up around 12 but we left… will come back again.

Went on a Friday when there was doo wop music. $ 5 cover cash only. There is a coat check too, not sure of fee. Mostly an early 20’s crowd. Very hipster. A lot of people on the dance floor. But you really have to be into this music to enjoy it. It’s steamy inside too. Had a creepy experience here. Some homeless looking guy(Prob in 40s) was sitting on one of the couches. I sat at the opposite end and as soon as I sat down he leaned over and said ‘can I just rest my head on your shoulder?’ I immediately got up(before he touched me thankfully) and walked away. So for me not a good experience. This could be more of a personal off night. I left but my girl friends said lots of guys were dancing with each other and asked them to dance too. But overall I recommend finding out what music they have that night. And don’t dress nice. Just show up ready to dance and have cheap drinks. And be ready to dodge creepers!

This place is small! They had some random dj playing when we went even though it was still fairly early on a Friday. We were there sort of early therefore it wasn’t too crowded but it was kinda cool to see the whole dance floor… empty and all for ourselves. Lucky for them we didn’t get wasted or we could have had a whole dance off right there and then. The drinks are fairly cheap but watch your step because the floors are a bit uneven… I know they are uneven and it wasn’t just me because I only had one beer there(I must add, they do have a pretty decent selection). Beer and uneven floors are a twisted ankle waiting to happen. The dead animals around the place(taxidermy) are kinda weird. Not sure how it relates to the place but ok.

It was a difficult decision to give this establishment two stars as there were some things that were very nice about it, but they really need to work out there other problems. We’ll set it up more simply: PROS: Cheap drinks, cool décor and atmosphere. Fun music. CONS: — It’s hard to complain about drinks when they are also cheap, but I have to mention the awful time I had to get a single drink. I elbowed my way to the bar after only a few minutes of waiting and then I watched as each time the bartender took my order(this was 3 times) he would go off and talk to someone else, forgetting my order altogether hence why 3 times he needed to ask what my order was before even pulling out a glass. The final straw was before the last time he asked for my order he went and took a groups order and filled theirs right away, and group orders take longer to fill then my single drink. Bartending is a tough job, but there was no reason why that should have happened. He’s lucky I still tipped because I was fuming. — Music was way too loud. Oh, but Laura, this is a bar, it’s supposed to be loud. YES, it is. It’s supposed to be loud. There is a small dance floor in the back, that’s where the music should be optimally loud, not the front of the bar or wherever people congregate to chat, it should be a little lower. At least where if someone is talking directly into my ears I could hear them. It was difficult to socialize. — This is a weird thing for me to be a nitpick about. But the floor is unleveled and has ditches everywhere. Nearly rolled my ankle twice stepping into one of these ditches. Add drinks into that and I’m sure it has happened. A couple other tips for patrons of this bar. Like most LES bars there will be a line outside, so if you are meeting up with friends, meet up before midnight. I really, really hope if I ever return I will not be given the service I had because I want to like this bar so badly.

This place reminds me of a garage sale that only plays 90’s music, unlike any bar I’ve been to before. The main reason for my 5 *s is because of how nice the bartenders are. Since I hadn’t heard of any of the beers on tap besides Guinness(I’m a n00b), the bartender gave me samples of all of them. So generous! I’m also pretty sure having cool hair is a prerequisite to working at Home Sweet Home: p Later in the evening I tried stella artois hard cider here for the first time. I didn’t know stella made cider, but it is AWESOME– highly recommend to anyone who enjoys hard cider. The dance floor is also very fun and my entire group ended up staying here the whole night instead of bar-hopping like we originally planned. Not sure why other reviewers said the dancing was awkward… everyone I encountered was having a great time. Would definitely recommend this place to both locals and out-of-towners because of the unique vibe and excellent service.
