Integrative Physical Therapy of NYC was officially established in January of 2014 only in name. In actuality the practice has had its doors open since 1984 when Dr. Willner started his private practice model of combining Physical therapy and Chiropractic care. Over the years Dr. Willner has held a high standard when it comes to the treatment of his patients. Dr. Willner established strong relationships with his patients and referring physicians due to his consistent results of getting patients back to a pain free life with increased function. Dr. Willner brought Dr. Ruggiero onto his staff in 2007 and Dr. Ruggiero quickly became convinced that Dr. Willner’s model of patient focused manual care was the most effective and efficient physical therapy care in the fast paced world of NYC. From 2007 – 2013 Dr. Ruggiero worked for Dr. Willner taking time to learn from him and model his clinical skills and gain knowledge to become a better clinician.

After 30 years of practicing full time Dr. Willner was ready to take a step back and take on a partner in Dr. Ruggiero. Integrative Physical Therapy of NYC is our new name and we will continue to focus and provide individualized patient care and manual therapy.

Dr. Frank J. Ruggiero received his doctoral degree in physical therapy from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia in 2004. Upon graduation, Dr. Ruggiero honed his physical therapy skills working in a variety of settings including outpatient care, acute care, rehabilitation and home care. Dr. Ruggiero has attended various postgraduate courses with McKenzie, and NYU postgraduate continuing education in orthopedics and manual therapy.

An outstanding service. Over the last several years, I’ve had three issues that required therapy (for my right shoulder, then my jaw, then my left shoulder) and in each case the people at IPT did a thorough, wonderful job. Throughout, I had the good fortune to work with both Drs. Gary Willner and Frank Ruggiero, who are very skilled and attentive. They listened patiently to my descriptions of my problems, and carefully evaluated my conditions. After the initial consultation, for me a typical session lasted 45 minutes and transpired as follows: heat and/​or other stimulus was applied for 15 minutes, then I’d perform a series of exercises designed for me (bravo to Eric and Dave for their assistance), finally Gary or Frank would do physical therapy on my problem joint. They also assigned exercises for me to do at home, a necessary component of recovery. I especially appreciated that, like wildlife conservationists who never forget their ultimate job is to put creatures back into the wild, Gary and Frank always aimed to get me out: I never felt they were trying to drag out the therapy, instead, they were readying me for the time I would no longer need it. At the same time, they did not rush me; I always felt they were sensitive to my individual needs. (FYI, for each of my shoulder problems, I visited twice a week for about 8 weeks; for my jaw, I visited twice a week for 3 or 4 weeks.) As another reviewer noted, the offices are not your razzle-​dazzle ultra-​swank type; they are perfectly fine, if a little small, and sometimes get busy with multiple patients. However, that didn’t matter a whit to me, given the results achieved, and IPT handled the schedules amazingly well: my appointments almost always started right on time. All in all, I very highly recommend IPT. They get results, while being efficient and kind.

I just finished six weeks of physical therapy for some spine issues with Dr. Gary Willner at Integrative and highly recommend my experience. The treatment and exercises genuinely seemed to be customized to my ailments; additionally, it was very reassuring to have the same doctor treat and monitor my progress throughout. The facility is both clean and quiet and I appreciated that it was not slickly modern or gym-​like — both of which I’ve experienced in my one earlier physical therapy treatment. If ever I have need for future physical therapy I most certainly will return to Integrative. And I’ll miss that fabulous massaging machine there!

Came here post-​shoulder surgery (labrum repair) and was back to working out in 2 months, off of PT in 3. Thank you Frank!
Definitely not your shiny/​modern PT office, but they actually care here. I’ve been to a few offices around midtown for other injuries and they tend to be on very generic pre-​printed programs and shuffle you to different therapists as schedules permit. Here they get to know you and personalize the programs. I will be returning to this practice in the future if needed.
FYI they make you sign in at the building lobby but I learned to walk in confidently like I belonged and no ID hassle needed, muahaha.

Great experience at Integrative PT. Very friendly and professional personnel. I went there because I had some knee issues, first time at a physical therapist. Dr. Gary was very helpful with his recommendations, as well as Dr. Frank. My knee problem was alleviated within a month a half (about 10 sessions). I totally recommend them!

I started physical therapy due to numbness and tingling in my fingers. I found Integrative Physical Therapists on my insurance website and decided to take an appointment based on the great Unilocal reviews they had.
During my first appointment with Dr. Ruggiero, he diagnosed me with a neck and elbow issue within a few minutes. He also made it clear that it was his goal to get me better and not be a constant patient. This instilled confidence in me that he was as invested in my recovery as I was.
During the 13 visits that I had with him he was polite, courteous and had excellent bed side manner. What I was really impressed with was that at the beginning of each visit he asked me about my progress and then decided on what I should be doing during that visit, instead of just blindly following the same path each visit. He was also not hesitant to explain me that if this does not work that I might have to an alternate route which instilled more confidence in me that I was working with the right kind of doctor and practice. He always put in his best and always made me feel comfortable and never rushed. He also worked with my internist to make sure I got the best care. When I was not able to go for my appointments one week due to personal commitments he checked in and made sure that I was doing well.
As for the practice everyone is really nice. Dave at the front desk is very sweet and makes you feel very comfortable. They are very good about getting you in when you need to and always are respectful, polite and flexible.
All in all the practice and the individuals working there are excellent and the five stars are well deserved.
If needed I would definitely go there is future whether they are in or out of network with my insurance because you can’t put a price on excellent medical care. I also highly recommend the practice and Dr. Ruggiero to anyone who wants a well versed in his field of practice, intelligent and caring physical therapist.

I had such a wonderful experience working with Frank and his team! I highly recommend them for lower back/​disc herniation treatment. I had a L5-​S1 disc herniation which was causing pain all the way down my left leg to my foot. I was also experiencing pain in my lower back. I had trouble sitting at work and even sleeping. The pain was constant and was more irritating than painful. I went to Frank once a week for two months or so and I am very pleased with the results! The pain in my leg has disappeared. I can finally run again without any leg pain. I am really happy that this is no longer a constant issue for me. Frank even followed up with my spine Dr at Mount Sinai the first few weeks when we were struggling with results. And he has been very understanding when I had an issue with my insurance payment. They also take multiple types of insurance which was great because I switched insurance halfway through my therapy. He was happy to speak with me on the phone whenever I had an issue. The team that he works with is also professional and friendly and always made me feel at ease when I was there. I felt like I was in good hands.

I am so happy that I was able to find integrative physical therapy of NYC because just one month ago I was barely able to walk and today, thanks to Frank and the team, I am completely well again! They are helpful, kind, and their strategy truly works. Furthermore, this office is much more affordable than any other PT office in the area. I started going to Integrative Physical Therapy after receiving a referral from my ortho spine specialist back over a two years ago. I had been in a car accident and was diagnosed with a disc bulge in my lower back. I was in severe pain to the point where I could barely stand up straight.
During my first appointment, I saw Frank Ruggiero, who listened to me recount everything that had occurred over the last week and was very attentive. He then proceeded to really explain my diagnosis and make sure I understood what was happening with my lower back. He showed me how to do exercises to not only help alleviate pain, but strengthen my back and core. He also dialogued a couple times with my ortho spine specialist @ Mt. Sinai when I would have «flare ups» throughout the course of my treatment. There was even a point where I was in tears when I arrived at the office because of the pain I was in, and Frank called me later on to see how I was feeling.
Overall, Frank & the staff at Integrative PT are absolutely fantastic — and I would highly recommend them to anyone in need to Physical Therapy in the midtown area!

I was diagnosed with a herniated disk and sciatica that was so bad it would wake me up in the middle of the night in excruciating pain so bad I couldn’t go back to sleep without lots of drugs, walking, hot shower, easily an hour before i could go back to bed and maybe sleep.
My doc referred me here, and 6 weeks later i am as good as new, maybe better. I am out of pain, no drugs needed. Frank, Gary, and the IPT staff are very connected to your issue, its very personal, no one size fits all, they listen very closely and tailor a program that works.
Every day now i do my stretches and exercises at home, use my lumbar support pillow, and the bottom line is they cured me. All I had to do is what they asked me to do after testing my range of motion and responses to this and that.
It’s a small personal practice and all i can say is the results speak for themselves. I’m almost at the point where i don’t have to go back, and truth be told i’m going to miss it. I might just have to come back now and then for a tune up. :-)
Bottom line, amazing practice, great staff, easy to get appointments, and they work wonders. I’m a believer. And I’m pain free and drug free.

Dr Ruggiero is the best! Professional, accurate and focused and gives personal attention at every session. I also never had a problem with getting appointments. This is not a place where you are rushed in and out. After a year of terrible sciatic pain, I finally feel on the path of recovery.

I would highly recommend Integrative PT. I had an injury to one shoulder that ended up turning into 2 frozen shoulders. It was so painful and caused such problems to everything I did including sleep. I can’t say enough about the team at Integrative PT for helping me through this. They are professional, on time, hard working and they would listen intently and knew exactly what to do to fix it. I am in the medical field so I would say I am a tough critic and they exceeded my expectations.

After an MRI indicated that I had several problems in my right shoulder, including a slap tear, my doctor prescribed PT. I found Integrative to be a top notch organization.
Dr. Ruggiero actually diagnosed my slap tear correctly when my own physician had diagnosed adhesive capsulitis. (To be fair, the symptoms presented could have indicated either one.) The MRI told the story.
Frank Ruggiero is a terrific therapist and the practice as a whole is great. It is easy to get an appointment, they accept most insurance, and the office itself has a very calm, very peaceful and very professional atmosphere. The staff is all very pleasant and very nice to deal with. In addition, their location, two blocks from Grand Central can’t be beat for convenience if you don’t live or work nearby. (I do, so finding a practice within a 10 minute walk from my apartment was an additional bonus.)
I started seeing definite improvement almost immediately and with further therapy and the exercises I was given to do at home, the condition has continued to improve.
One thing that really impressed me was that Frank was very up front about the limits of in-​office therapy for my condition and didn’t try to keep me coming in unnecessarily.
All in all, Integrative’s five stars are very well deserved.

Frank and his team are phenomenal. I had my first appointment in January 2015 after being plagued with an IT Band flare up in my right knee. I’m an avid runner and have self treated past flare ups but this injury was severe and had me stopped in my tracks at the peak of my training for the Tokyo Marathon.
I had 8 weeks to recover and be race ready. I had my doubts. Frank was gracious to work me into his schedule twice a week. His treatment was precise and incredibly effective. Frank had me on a detailed recovery regiment inside and outside the office. Cross training and a series of exercises to strengthen my hip muscles and glutes were apart of my daily routine. Through a combination of massage and electric therapy along with lots of strength training we did it.
With Frank’s help I was able to successfully run the Tokyo Marathon pain free. Six weeks later I PR’d at the Boston Marathon. I continue to work Frank’s strength training into my daily routine and continue to be pain free. Frank and his staff are friendly, motivating and dedicated. They’ll get you on the road to recovery and you’ll be back at it before you know it!

I came here after having neck pain. I thought it would fade away, but after a week and a half, I decided to try physical therapy. I found Interactive through my health insurance. Setting up appointments and insurance are very easy.
I mostly met with Dr. Ruggiero, who is very friendly. He did some initial tests to see my range of motion, told me what was wrong, and started treating me that day My neck pain was reduced drastically after the first few appointments. It’s been about a month and my pain is very minimal and should subside soon, so I reduced the frequency of my appointments.
Overall, they are very good. All the aides are friendly as well, and it’s a very short walk from Grand Central, so it’s easy to get there.

I’ve had horrible knees for years now. Almost every time I run, I end up limping the next day in pain. About a month or two ago, I went for a 6 mile run, and though my knees felt tight, I wasn’t physically tired so I kept running. Terrible idea. I was limping for 2 weeks straight and the pain never subsided, so I FINALLY decided to see a Physical Therapist. After some extensive Unilocal’ing and speaking to my insurance, I came across Integrative Physical Therapy of NYC.
So happy I decided to come here. I have been seeing Dr. Frank Ruggiero — originally 2x per week, then 1x per week — and I’m happy (and sad) to say this week will be my last, as my knees are feeling MUCH better. Frank gave me exercises to strengthen the muscle around my patella, as well as ultrasounds and practices for centering my patella and proper wrapping.
I really feel like he knows exactly what he’s doing, the atmosphere is very welcoming, and most employees are actually from the Firehouse, where Frank also works when he’s not in the office. It’s like a little family in there. Cannot recommend enough!

After spraining my ankle during a run in November and not really letting it heal properly, I was plagued by a nagging pain that just would not quit. I stubbornly tried to rehab it on my own, and continue running, biking, and lifting… but every morning I’d wake up with a stiff ankle and end the day with a swollen one.
On a whim last month, I decided to finally see a physical therapist. Integrative PT is a few blocks away from my office which is what prompted me to book initially, but even if they were further away I’d travel to them. After twice weekly visits the past few weeks, I’ve noticed a BIG difference — no pain in the morning, improved mobility, and my ankle is feeling much stronger.
I highly recommend the Integrative PT team! :)

The best chiropractic doctors, within 2 weeks my pain was almost gone. I would definitely recommend this office 2 great doctors, diagnosed my ailments, treated me and had me back to my normal self in the time quoted. Love this place.
