Island Spring Spa

I was searching for Brazilian waxes on Groupon, and after seeing so many positive reviews, decided to purchase the deal for Island Spring Spa. In retrospect, most of the positive reviews are for services other than waxing — something I wish I had paid more close attention to.
Yes, waxing is painful, but this was easily the worst wax I’ve received. My waxer was not exceptionally personable and I found it hard to feel relaxed. However, it wasn’t until I got home that I realized a chunk of skin was removed in the process! Will not be coming back here.

I visited for a massage and facial in this spa, i had a groupon with this place. This is Small cozy spa at the second floor. I enjoyed my time there. Receptionist is friendly and making appointment was easy. Elsa for facial is awesome, no fragrance or weird products. Massage with Iwona is amazing. She tends to all my needs. I would recommend this for a discount or couple massage.
They have discounted package for regulars, I may come back for more.

I had a massage yesterday and was assigned to Iwonda. She is marvelous! I felt wonderful afterwards and all my tension was gone. I had a hot stone massage for the first time and I am looking forward to my next visit there.

Awful place! 10 sessions of hair lasers and barely saw results. This is a ripoff place trying to allure clientele with deals through groupon. last session they had replaced the machine with an old one that the burning was so painful that i had to stop. Don’t go there unless you want to waste money!

Feeling those aches? Let’s be honest, it’s really difficult to find a massage place in NYC and of course a wonderful massage therapist. But, I’ve been to island spring spa on 60^th more than ten times within this past year alone and it’s amazing. I love my sessions with Janna especially. She’s so attentive and knows exactly what my body needs! I always leave feeling refreshed and can’t wait for my next massage!

I wouldn’t necessarily call this a spa, it’s pretty small and only on the 2^nd level so you can hear some traffic. For the money I paid this was fine but I’m not sure I’d recommend it for a couples massage — which is what I came for. Ana & Jana & the receptionist were very pleasant and the place was clean — no complaints there! It was a little strange how my BF & I got two completely different massages. His was softer and quieter while mine was pretty rough. My masseuse was quite noisy moving around and her cell phone went off a few times. Ultimately I enjoyed more pressure but she went so fast. Neither of us spoke up which we probably should have but I didn’t want to ruin his experience and vice versa. I won’t go back but I think if you want a no frills massage this place is fine — but be sure to speak with your masseuse beforehand about what you want.

Island Spring Spa seems to bring its entire clientele in through deal sites — they always have a special going on Groupon or Living Social or whatever, with thousands of purchases logged.
I was one of those thousands. Craving some pampering on the cheap, I bought a Groupon a few months ago for a $ 39 European facial plus foot scrub.
Considering their popularity, scheduling was easy peasy. I only called two days in advance of when I wanted my appointment. Whoever I spoke with on the phone was sweet and friendly.
The «spa» is a tiny second floor space, clean but dim and humble. The room I was put in was miniscule, and barely fit the little bed and equipment cart. Kudos to them for resourcefulness.
The facial itself was just okay. [Iwona? Ivana?] was too gentle for my preference. Total amount of time that she actually works on your face is only 15 minutes, out of the 50 minutes advertised (various spans of time are spent lying there, waiting for one thing or another). The extractions were the only thing that felt like an actual part of a facial treatment, but lasted barely a few seconds. I wanted to feel super clean afterward, but didn’t in particular.
The foot scrub was preceded with «you had a foot scrub, right?» and literally just going through the motions (again, relatively gently — I might accomplish more by walking through the sand at a beach). All of it took 4 minutes, and I still had bits of sugar and stickiness on my feet afterward that I had to wipe off before putting my shoes back on.
Sites like Groupon are supposed to woo you into being a [paying] regular, by letting you try a service for a price sharply below its value. Even though the facialist was very kind, I didn’t feel that the facial was even worth what I paid on Groupon. Island Spring probably makes more of its revenue through volume, anyway, so I don’t think they’ll miss me as a potential customer.

This was the most disappointing lash experience of my life. It’s too bad because I was excited to find a lash place so close to my new apartment.
The experience:
The lash technician showed up super late. This is particularly vexing because they called me the day before to see if they could move my appointment later. I called back to tell them that was ok, and they never returned or confirmed. I called a couple hours before my appointment and they said the change wasn’t necessary, to come in at my original time, which I did. And then the lash tech arrived a half hour late, wasting my time.
The actual lashes:
Horrible. They are no longer than my normal lashes. My boyfriend couldn’t even tell I had anything done. They are also not lined up properly. You know how perfect they look when you get them freshly done? All splayed out and frond-​like? Well I didn’t have that. They weren’t straight and they were all bunchy. Like some were glued to each other. On top of that it took way too long and was very painful. I was tearing up the whole time. The picking and poking really hurt.
Additionally, she did not wash my lashes first or prep them in any way, and she didn’t ask my what style or length I wanted my lashes.
What sucks the most is I was getting them done for a special occasion this weekend. I can’t even get them fixed in time.
I’m very disappointed. I would not recommend this place to anyone who wants a good lash job.

Update: After writing my review, the owner of the Spa, Ivy, reached out to me to schedule an appointment that would accommodate me. I responded to her with my personal contact information to set up the appointment. I heard nothing. A week later I sent a follow up. Ivy ghosted me. So I stand by my review– terrible customer service.
I went to Red & White Spa in SoHo for lash extensions instead. The staff was friendly, the place was clean, and my lashes look beautiful!

I recently had two massages with Janna at Island Spring Spa. She is an amazing massage therapist!
At the outset, she is very attentive and pays careful attention to specific concerns raised. Janna clearly recognizes that each client under her care is unique and she quickly established a calm and relaxing atmosphere.
Her interpersonal skills perfectly compliment her massage skills. I do try to get a massage once or twice a month for stress relief and, with Janna, it was immediately evident she is well trained and proficient in the art and science of massage, understanding pressure points, rhythm, and cadence.
If you are looking for a professional, thorough, and relaxing massage, I highly recommend Janna.

This was truly one of the worst place I have ever been to. I bought a full set of eyelash extensions on amazon local. I made my apt and when I got there they had no AC. I am 38 weeks pregnant, tried to tolerate t for 20 minutes while the girl kept saying it would cool down… but it didn’t. Because the protable AC they had, was NOT WORKING!
How could they possibly work when the temperature on the AC showed 91 degrees!!!
I kindly asked them if they could please bring a fan they had on the reception area into the room but they refused. Clearly that was the way to get the customers in…
This place should be shut down.

I went for a facial and laser treatment. The spa was smaller than I imagined but the friendly staff was super accommodating of all my needs.
It was my first time getting laser so I wasn’t sure what to expect but the staff was great and walked me through the process. I had originally wanted to do my entire leg but the lady that worked with me advised against it since I had so little hair and she didn’t want to charge me for something that might not make a substantial difference. We opted to just do my lips and she offered to do a small portion of my leg free of charge to see how it would fare until the next time I went in so I could decide if I wanted to move forward with the leg laser removal anyway which I really appreciate since it isn’t cheap to do to begin with.
The facial was nice, it was relaxing and my skin felt great afterward. The lady really made an effort to get rid of all my blackheads and blemishes which made a noticeable difference.
For the price I definitely can’t complain and the location is super convenient. I’ll definitely be back.

Used a Groupon for a massage here
The massage was AWESOME. One of the best I’ve ever had.
The service/​front desk staff could improve.
Their full time prices are excessive. I would not return without a Groupon voucher.

I purchased a Life booker massages deal. An hour massage was only 50 minutes. They actually have a sign that says 5 min client comfort time, 50 min massage, and 5 min client comfort time equals an hourmassage. I didn’t get any comfort time whatever it was supposed to be. I didn’t get water or tea after the massage. Yet a got a flyer with prices and was told those social prices are only good for today. I have a feeling that is told to customers every day.
The place is clean and the staff are friendly. But they charge midtown prices and offer Chinatown massages. The staff are chinese. I would not pay full price for their services. For the services I got I could have gone top chonatown.
Review of my hot hot stone massage by Coco —
Pros: I did get a full body massage from head to toe. I like the fact she massage my head and neck as well as my body. She did asked me once in the beginning if I was okay. She should also ask if her pressure was ok since at times she was too strong.
Cons: she used her elbow more than her hands. She also used her legs on my thighs (she got on the bed and pressed her legs on the back of mine at one point). That might be ok for someone with lots of meat on thrm. I am on the side of skinny. Her elbow on my shoulders and legs was just bone on bone and it didn’t feel good. The other complaint I have is she should know the temperature of the stones. The 2^nd stone she used on me was way too hot and I jumped. All the stones don’t stay hot for l long. When she finished rubbing them on me (not for long either) she laid them on my spine but they weren’t hot anymore.

I had a Groupon for European Facial with foot scrub.
Firstly, it’s not a SPA. It’s pretty clean Salon. However atmosphere is far from relaxing.
Secondly, even though Lady that performed the procedure was quite thorough with extraction, she didn’t even remove my eye make up and forgot about foot scrub.
I didn’t want to remind her, because to be honest, I didn’t want to stay there longer.
Don’t see myself coming back there.

This was my first ever massage so I have no other experiences to compare it to, nevertheless it was a great experience.
I purchased a Groupon for a 50min massage. I’m pretty sure it was a little less than 50 minutes but it was such a great experience that I will not deduct points for that. I had Coco who was very nice and did a very good job, she always made sure to check in with me to make sure I was comfortable and relaxed. If I go back I would definitely schedule with Coco. FYI– the place was very clean and professional looking.
I am deducting a point because the receptionist was not very kind or welcoming, I was not greeted at all. She just stared at me until I spoke to her. As I left there were 2 ladies sitting at the reception desk. No one said to have a nice day or thanked me. This is just not great customer service if you ask me. If it weren’t for the experience I had with Coco I would not come back.

As a birthday gift from a friend, I got my first-​ever professional massage here. It was a 50-​minute swedish massage, and so awesome I very much want to make it a part of my weekly routine.
I’m a pretty shy person and the thought of having a complete stranger massage my body for an hour was not something I was very interested in previously. But, this place made me feel completely at ease, and the masseuse was very professional and thorough. I always thought I’d be too ticklish for a full-​body massage, but I basically melted into the massage table the entire time. I don’t have anything else to compare it to, but for me it was a perfect experience and one my muscles desperately needed as I train for a 100 mile bike ride right now.
Highly recommend, and will of course be returning again soon.

I come here frequently now that I work across the street and all the receptionists are very friendly and nice they make you feel very comfortable and all the services are very affordable. I do laser air removal and massages and I am very happy with those services. Perla and Lilian are my favorite receptionist and jessica is my favorite masseuse. You have to go and try it for yourself!

Yes, I bought the $ 39 Groupon for an hour massage here, which advertises as worth ~$ 120. I was expecting a really swanky place, but it was just a plain spot with a few rooms inside. The massage itself was ok, I was surprised to have hot stones (I love hot stone massages!) but there was a point when the lady just left and I was just laying there and fell asleep… and she came back and said «ok, all done!» Hrmmm.
I’ve been to massages where I did pay hundreds for it, but they were way nicer, etc. So if you want to come here, just pay the Groupon price. Otherwise, it’s really not worth it.

This review is for Sue– who attended to me when I came in for a 45-​minute microdermabrasion facial for $ 45 (reg. $ 125) from Lifebooker.
Pros:
* Sue was AMAZING throughout the facial. She was incredibly meticulous and thorough during the entire procedure. During the microdermabrasion process, she used the tool several times over my face and made sure not a spot was missed. She didn’t take any breaks and even gave me a quick and relaxing shoulder rub at the end. I highly recommend her if you come to Island Spring for this facial.
* My front desk experience also improved upon my 2^nd visit– the receptionists were so sweet and friendly. Make sure to check in on Unilocal for complimentary soap or sponge package (there is a typo on Unilocal,it’s 3, not 30 soaps). They offer you apple cider upon check out.
Overall I spent $ 74 including tax and tip. I think if the $ 45 deal was for an hour (instead of 45 minutes), I would definately get this deal again!
