JackRabbit – Union Square

Not a good experience with their online store. Ordered shoes, received a confirmation email for the order, but days and days went by without receiving an email confirming shipment. Unfortunately, you cannot check on the status of your order unless you have an online account with them. I contacted their customer service department via email. Turns out, my order for some reason — totally unbeknownst to me — was marked as fraudulent, and therefore did not ship. Would’ve been nice if they’d contacted me to TELL me that. The only reason I found out is because I contacted THEM to see what the hold-​up was!
Online customer service rep (Gerald) told me I would need to call their 800 number to give permission to ship (despite this being THEIR error), which I did that same day. Was assured that my order would be processed right away, there was absolutely no problem with my credit card, and that I’d receive a shipment confirmation email. Never did. Called again several days later, asking them to do one of two things: either 1) cancel my order, or 2) ship the order ASAP, since it had been a week and a half since I placed the order. Long story short, still waiting on that shipment confirmation email and it’s been several days. «Expedited» shipping? Not so much.
Orders randomly coming back as «fraudulent,» despite NOT being fraudulent, seems very odd. I’m all for protecting the consumer, but what I have the biggest problem with is that they never bothered to alert me that there was a problem with my order. I will not be using JackRabbit again. I’ll get my running shoes elsewhere from now on.

By far the worst experience I have ever had with any online retailer. First there over night postage is pretty steep but I needed my stuff before the 24^th because I was gonna be out of town for a week so I payed the 33 dollars. They split my order into 4 shipments, one was ups express (which is what I payed 33 dollars for) two were ups surepost (which is slower than regular ground shipping by a day) and the third never shipped so I called today and asked for a refund. They basically stole my 33 dollars for shipping (they shipped one item out of six ups express) and Im gonna call them and ask for a refund on my shipping tomorrow and contact the police if It comes to that. I’m sure the store front is good but I will never purchase for them online again.

I called them this morning and robin was super helpful and refunded my shipping and gave me a confirmation email for my refund on shipping and the shorts because who ever help me the the day before never sent me an email confirming the refund. I didn’t even have to get agro and talk to a manager lol. I gave you guys another star because robin did a great job with customer service but you guys still need to really work on you online business if you want to compete with larger more establish retailers.

I dont get prompted to come on Unilocal to often but after visiting this place i had to. I ve had some foot issues and decided to go here and get some proper sneakers. the overall vibe and staff are very cool and friendly. Joe my sale associate was awesome… super informative and helped me pick out the right shoes in no rush at all… he brought up all the sneakers he recommended for me and explained how each was good for my condition etc…
I am definitely going back for another pair down the line…

Jack Rabbit is the best running store in NYC. The staff is super friendly and knowledgable. Purchasing the right running shoes in essential to avoiding injuries and for the long haul. I was having issues with my knees when I run and they knew exactly what to do to prevent it. I also tend to pronate as many people do and they helped me with a stability shoe that worked perfectly for me. They know their products and don’t push you to buy anything you don’t want. They point you in the right direction and help you find the right shoes to suite your needs and style. They also carry the newest and best gear as well as protein bars, caffeine chews and energy booster to help you get through your runs/​work outs. Go to Jack Rabbit for all your running needs.

Their online service is horrible. Placed an order, never heard from them after 10 days, called them asking for status and they told me they didn’t have my item in their inventory anymore. They would have stolen my money had i not demanded a refund.

This place is seriously one of the best shops ever (and I’m not just talking about sports or running stores) for customer service. I’m a novice runner and know next to nothing about brands or equipment (read: I ask a million questions). I recently came into the shop and needed a replacement pair of running shoes. Aaron (I think that’s what he said his name was) was beyond patient. After assessing my running stride, he pulled out box after box of running shoes until we had found the perfect fit. In this day and age of lack-​luster customer service, this shop stands head and shoulders above so many places. Thank you Aaron and everyone and Jack Rabbit. Your amazing customer service has won a loyal customer in me!

Does not honor website flash sale pricing. Totally a bait and switch to get you to buy higher priced goods. Don’t fall for their phony baloney!

I ordered a pair of running shoes from jackrabbit online. I completed my contact information including cell phone and email. I chose the standard shipping time which was up to ten days. After fifteen days I called because the shoes had not arrived. My bank account was charged on the day I ordered them. The representative told me the order had not been filled. She tried to locate the model in the stores but could not. She asked to give me to give her 24 hours to find the shoe and that she would be in contact with me in 24 hours. That was four days ago! I still have not heard from anyone. I will call back today to receive a refund. Jackrabbit uses poor business practices of charging before the product is located!

Been at this location a few times now to pick up my pre-​race packet for 5K runs I have entered in this year.
Usually I do a little shopping and looking through the clothes racks afterwards. A bit on the pricey side for sure, so I usually end up at Modell’s anyway which normally has many name brand running shoes on sale. Heck, for a 5K runner like myself I’m not going to spend a fortune on sneakers or running apparel.
Decent enough staff but make sure you find one who really knows about running gear. I have spoken to one who knew his stuff, and one that seemed meh.
Maybe one day I’ll take a running test here to get a more in-​depth analysis of my running pattern.

Overpriced sneakers and young servicepeople who really don’t know how to fit footwear. The only plus is the liberal return policy, which is full refund even on worn sneakers within 30 days with receipt.

I love getting my shoes here for the simple fact someone working here will take the time to properly fit you in the right shoe. They had me try on at least 6 – 7 different shoes then worked on getting the perfect fit. This reminds me of the old time small family owned shoe stores.

Whoa… do not order from these people online, at least not if you think you might want to return it. They claim on their site that they accept returns, but here’s what happened to me. They don’t send their packages with a return label, just instructions to mail it back to a certain address with the return slip inside. So I did that. Never received any confirmation of a return or a refund. Emailed to ask what was up and they told me that in order to get a refund I would need to be able to give them my usps tracking number (of course, its easy to bank on most people not having their post office receipt anymore). I tried to ask if they had processed my order number (available on the return slip). They wouldn’t answer that, just insisted that in order to proceed with a refund they would need my tracking number from the post office.
So, they accept returns in theory. But actually getting your money back is going to be like trying to cancel cable.

Two stars for: Meh. I’ve experience better.
I experienced better at JackRabbit before they were bought out by Running Specialty Group (March, 2015).
Okay, I get it. The shareholders of JackRabbit believed they could get better returns on their investments if they proceed with RSG buying out JackRabbit. JackRabbit slowly transitioned from being a triathlon store to a running store. Their wet suits started to wear out and their road bikes rode off. Nike, Underarmour, and NYRR apparel started to populate the shelves
I am no triathlete. In fact, I am more of a runner than I am a biker and swimmer, but I enjoy all three activities; however, the trend of small businesses being bought out by larger businesses causes me great distress from an ethical standpoint. A lifelong supporter of the underdog and class nerd for winning the cheerleader, I am greatly upset by RSG acquiring JackRabbit.
Think about all the employees who were terminated because they were no longer needed for their biking or swimming knowledge. Think about all the customers who relied on them for triathlon gear.
Think about all the customers who solely come to JackRabbit to buy cheap JackRabbit apparel: me! I like $ 5 tech tee with a sweet JackRabbit design. I like $ 15 running shorts with the JackRabbit logo. WTF, man?! I now feel like my JackRabbit apparel as valuable antiques.

All 5 of my stars go to the people who work here, holy customer service batman.
The guy who helped me with my shoes (Evan I think) was the best! Really thorough, had great suggestions, and now have the best possible running shoes to take on the NYCHM!
Came on a weeknight and had no trouble getting to use the tredmill… just walk in, ask one of the salespeople to help you, they’ll give you shoes to test run in, video your stride and then bring up suggested options for you to try running in. Overall the process took probably 20 – 30 minutes… and I took my time.
FYI NEVER get Nike Frees if you’re a runner (they don’t sell them here but that’s why I ended up here), they’ll kill your joints. if you want real running shoes, buy them HERE and feel your whole running world change.

Excellent customer service. Kevin helped me pick out a pair of running sneakers. Im pretty talkative and full of questions, but he was super patient with me. He recorded my running and helped me find the perfect pain of sneakers. He wasn’t pushy and seemed to genuinely honest with me. My experience was way better than my previous fitting at the nike store (of which I paid $ 160 for a sneaker that caused me bad ankle pain). Thanks for your help Kevin! You are a badass.

This store has a nice selection, clean layout, and super friendly staff. I spoke with Daniel about the process for getting fitted for a shoe and he was incredibly helpful. I didn’t have time that day to do it, but I will definitely be back!

OMG! What I went through with this company and their online ordering. I found running shoes that I always wear for half the price on their website. I ordered myself 6 pairs and a family member 1 pair. What a joke.
I needed one pair immediately so I called customer service and explained. She told me she had enough in stock to send my order. I placed my orders in two separate orders. The next day after speaking to the representative, my first order was cancelled. All three pairs!
We called them and asked What was going on. She said they were out of stock, but the other order was being fulfilled. «how can that be»? We heard nothing for a week and called. They said the second order was being cancelled, «No stock». I will NEVER order from them again. They get your hopes up and don’t deliver. I think they never did have any in stock and use sales tactics to get you to shop there. DO NOT SHOP HERE. Save yourself time and heartache and spend the extra $ 20 and buy elsewhere. All we have to show for our weeks of ordering and waiting are an entire email list of cancellations and refunds.

First, this review pertains only to their website and online service.
Second, this review is full of first world problems, but if you’re using Unilocal and reading this, chances are you’re a first worlder and you can relate.
If you check other reviews of people slamming their website issues, take their words to heart. It is easily the worst experience I have ever had on a legitimate website and that is not an exaggeration. The WORST. Their online customer service could have saved the day, but their philosophy made things worse.
I’ll say this as a warning: Do not waste your time on their website. They may have items «available» that you can add to cart and check out with, but there is just no way to tell which items are actually in stock and which are not. Think about that for a second. If even ONE item is available to purchase, but they don’t really have it in stock, how would you know if ANY of the items are actually available and in stock?
Their basic issue seems to be that their website just can’t keep up with their real-​time stock and they just don’t have enough people to handle online demands. That’s an assumption, but it seems logical. My issue is I purchased things on their website on two separate occasions, only to be told days/​weeks later that they were out of stock.
Like a few others, I also spent a lot of time reviewing items and shopping on their website. The first occasion, the item was priced low so I thought it was a great deal. Then I start adding other things to get over $ 75 for free shipping. Everything else ships but that original item. About a week later I get a message saying I’ve been refunded. No apology or anything, just a nice, impersonal «here’s your refund.» Okay, understandable, how about a free shipping code or a small discount code for next time? «Nope, we don’t do that.» Really? Hmm, I wonder why there is a box to enter a PROMO CODE on your checkout page then.
Second occasion, because of course, it had to happen twice before I learned my lesson. Another «great deal» on another item. I add two of them to cart and complete checkout. I even check back the next day and the item is still available to add to cart. So it MUST be in stock this time, right? Wrong. A week later and no update or any sort of contact from them. So I email them and three days later, I get the expected refund email. Again, no apology, no helpful codes, nothing. This is the type of service to expect from them. I wonder how many people went through the same issue on these «great deals». What a joke.

I might be alone here, but I’m all for JackRabbit being taken over by Finish Line. The last time I remember getting customer service like this was at a shoe store in my hometown run by generations of a single family. Now that Finish Line has stepped in, they carry SO much more apparel and accessories (before it was mostly shoes).
This is the only place in NYC I’ve found with a full collection of running gels.
Most things are full price because of the service level you receive. If fast food workers can fight for a $ 15 minimum wage, I hope these salespeople make double.

JackRabbit is almost always my destination for running shoes. I tend to skip the apparel and other gear as it’s a bit overpriced (hello, Amazon!) but I come for the awesome customer service and extensive shoe selection.
Sadly, running shoes have a short shelf life. If you’re regularly logging miles, you should expect to get a new pair every 6 months to a year. And while you could try to stretch it, your body will feel the impact!
For starters, the associates have you run on a treadmill to determine your gait and even show you the video on their iPad. They ask you what you’re training for (if anything), what you’re looking for in a shoe, and then give you multiple pairs to try on. I actually went with the first pair of Mizunos (which were, fortunately for me, on sale) and he also suggested an insert to help with my annoying shin splints and tendon issues. I didn’t feel like it was purely an upsell, especially because he told me I could try them out and bring them back if they didn’t work out. Ever since I purchased the Mizunos and insert (a little over $ 100), running has felt SO MUCH BETTER. It doesn’t hurt like it normally does after a few miles, and I actually look forward to my long runs on the weekend now.
I’m currently training for a half marathon and I would highly suggest you go to JackRabbit to find your next pair. The one thing you should splurge on when training for any type of run should be great shoes.

This place is wayyyyyy overpriced. Bought a pair of Asics that I could’ve got elsewhere for $ 75 less. Sure, they videotape your stride, tell you if you under or over pronate (which you probably know anyway) and then recc. the most expensive pair of sneakers. They pretend they are physical therapists or orthopedists when they are just a bunch of sales clerks.
My advice: Run — don’t walk — from this place!

Very helpful staff and that video analysis of your running proves useful when you have an actual problem to solve (like me, with my over-​pronating ways). The shoes are expensive so expect to spend $ 100 and up, but if you’re serious about investing in long-​distance running, Jack Rabbit is one of the best places in the city.
Great service and a reasonable return policy (you have two weeks to test out your new shoes, so think one or two long runs). My $ 120 Asics are working our well after a 10-​mile training run and a Brooklyn Half, so I consider this a great investment so far.

I love JackRabbit. After a year of minimal training due to injury, I hobbled back into JackRabbit today for new sneakers. I was anxious and sore. My injury was flaring up and I was eager for relief. Making things even more stressful: Mizuno completely overhauled my favorite running shoe, and they no longer work for me, so I had to find a new running shoe. (Sidenote: there oughta be a law prohibiting this!)
My sales associate was wonderful (I am awful with names. I can’t remember his. I’m so sorry!) He really listened to everything I said and took his time with me. I had to move slowly because of my injury. Yet, I never felt rushed or hurried and I walked away with a pair of sneakers I feel great about. He also wasn’t shy about asking a female associate what she would recommend given my injury and personal taste. I love it when someone asks questions instead of pretending to know everything. It only helps the process along!
I really appreciated that he really listened to me. It may seem silly, but it’s a little thing that goes a long way. It’s difficult to go into a sports store, limping, tired, and frustrated just to see all those healthy people who can do what you can’t yet. To have someone ask me if I was ok, and just smile and say, «It’s ok take your time.» then, «Keep up the good work!» as I walked out, meant a lot. It’s those small moments that keep me motivated.
And yeah… I’m totally Sporty Spice geeking about on my new sneakers! :)
