Ai is the best! The salon is no-​frills, but Ai’s cuts are better than cuts I’ve had in high-​end salons. I have fine, thin hair and she gives me cute short styles that flatter my face and style. I have been stopped on the street several times and asked where I get my hair cut, which has never happened in my life before Ai!
Go to Ai (she does my color too!) but don’t steal my appointment times, please ;).

Great environment. Tiara is a fabulous hairstylist. She handle my natural kinky hair with great care and patience.

I have been going to Jeff for a while now and my hair has never looked better! I highly recommend him for highlights and I’m always getting complimented on my hair! Everyone there is very nice and professional and you even get a nice scalp massage while getting your hair washed. Excellent service and highlights!

I’ve been coming to this salon for many years now. Jeffrey Stein does a great job with my hair color. I recommend him highly. He really knows what he is doing!
Ai does an amazing job with my haircut. Each time she does something a little new and I always love it and get many compliments.

Both of my young adult daughters have been getting their hair done here as well.
One even travels from Boston to see Ai once a month for her short haircut.

The best stylist at the Salon is Ai. She does an incredible job. She cuts my hair as well as several friends, both male and female. She is incredibly talented and is able to achieve exactly what i always want. Go to her! you will not be disappointed.

Ai has been skillfully cutting my hair for about 10 years now and she is a gem. Like most women, my hair is quite important to me and if i get a bad cut, i wont make the mistake twice. So far, so very good; I am always pleased. Ai takes her time, is On Time) and as a ps: the staff at the salon are always very welcoming.

I went to Jeffrey Stein Salon for the first time and had an amazing experience!!! Upon arrival, the receptionist was very welcoming and friendly. I had my hair done by Sean who was very knowledgeable and professional. He gave great customer service as well as color and cut services. I highly recommend this salon

Good salon, fantastic stylist: Ai has been working with my family for years and not only is she an incredible person, but also a flawless professional. Her work has that classic style with an edge and she really knows how to adapt to each person’s needs. You can definitely trust her to do exactly what you want, or to surprise you when you need it. A true artist!

I do not get my hair done very often but when I do, I always come here for excellent service. Ai always cuts my hair and has also given me the best highlights I’ve ever had. The color grew out so naturally at my scalp and my hair didn’t become brassy or anything. She is an expert at cutting hair but I would also highly recommend her for coloring as well. Not to mention, she is an extremely nice, warm, and friendly person. Thanks Ai!

I had my haircut at this salon my hair is very difficult to cut so front desk recommend me to see Sean so am very pleased with his work he is the best stylist i ever saw he is not just stylist he is creative Director of the salon for a reason if i could i would put 10 stars.

Tried out the salon for the first time tonight! I was extremely happy they were able to make a same day appointment. I only needed color correction and asked the stylist Tiarra to take me from basically blonde (impulsive summer highlighting) to my natural dark brown color. She did an AMAZING job and was super personal and helpful! I told her exactly what I wanted and she achieved it plus more! I did not need a cut but I would have fully trusted my new dark brown locks in her hands! Salon was clean and decent priced. Only hitch is that they should warn you, you can only tip in cash so be prepared!

I give it two stars because of Tiara, who was lovely and did a great job on my blow out. Other than that, it was plain awful. Chad, who works there was a wannabe snob who was simply obnoxious with complete lack of customer service. I will NEVER go there again and if you value good customer service please don’t either.

I don’t know why this place has such bad reviews… I was referred here by my friend, Liz, to see Christine and I had an amazing experience. I have been seeing the same hair dresser since I was 12, but last May I decided to go blonde, and she did it terribly each time. Finally I took my friend Liz’s advice and went to see Christine at Jeffrey Stein Salon. She was amazing! She did everything I asked for and my hair, for the first time, looks amazing! She really seemed like she knew what she was doing, and was incredibly nice. The place also felt really clean and comfortable. She offered me water, tea and coffee and was very accommodating. I can’t wait to go back!
Again, no clue why this place has such bad reviews, as I am more than pleased with my experience. I say go here and ask for Christine!

Ask for Ai. She’s the freakin’ BEST.

I would have chosen 0 stars for this place but unfortunately, that was not an option. I had bought a Groupon deal for haircut + double process. I called to book an appt and the woman said first, it would be a 3 month wait. Then, she explains to me that a double process just means they strip your hair of color. But you pay extra to add color to it. Well, then where is the double part of «double process»? When I called back to give them the opportunity to explain she said I am just the receptionist and I don’t make the rules. Then she said to talk to the manager, that she did not have time to listen to my complaints and to just call Groupon to get my money back. Of course she went on about how their salon is in the UES and not the LES so that double process in UES means just stripping your hair of color. But this was on the heels of her telling me she was just the receptionist and that she knew nothing about hair. I guess she can add not knowing anything about being a receptionist either since she was extremely rude & ended up hanging up on me!
Save your money, there are MUCH better places anywhere in NYC.

Terrible experience! And I didn’t even get my hair done!
I bought a Groupon for this place — $ 39 to get a cut, deep condition and blow. I can’t even complain about my hair cut, but it never got cut!
When I called to try and make an appointment, I let them know that I had purchased a Groupon.
Them: «Oh, I’ll take your # down and someone will call you back in a hour».
Me: Why? Why can’t I make my appt now?
Them: Because there’s only one person that is servicing Groupon customers.
Ugh! There were hundreds of Groupons purchased for this deal! So I never got a call back. I call the salon the next day, tell them I have a Groupon, and they tell me the same thing — that I should leave my name and # and someone will call me back to schedule an appt. Well that evening I finally get a call back and the earliest appt I could schedule on a weekday after work was a month from when I called. I was very disappointed, but I took the appt.
So two days ago, I get a text mssg confirming my appt for the next day. I replied back and confirmed. The next morning, I get a courtesy call letting me know that my stylist called out sick that morning and that she’d call me back the following day to get it rescheduled. I asked if there was anyone else that would be able to cut it. Nope! Out of luck!
I’m not going there! Neither should anyone else! They treat their Groupon customers like cattle. They should have put a cap on the # of deals that could have been sold if only ONE stylist wasn’t going to be servicing them. I had to wait a month to get an appt and that was within a week after purchasing the deal. I can’t imagine what the wait time would be now…6 weeks after the deal was offered.
I called Groupon and asked for a refund. They told me how they’ve gotten more than one complaint about this place and they’d be happy to refund my $. Thank you Groupon! And I hope they do not allow this salon to offer any more deals that they can’t handle!

My friend and I bought a groupon for the deep condition, wash, dry, and haircut package. Despite looking at the reviews for this place, we decided to give it a go.
It was a great experience. I brought in a picture of what I wanted, and Sean who was not only a great stylist, but also a great conversationalist discussed what would look best for my face structure. And off he went meticulously cutting my hair into a beautiful new do.
I also loved the deep conditioning, my hair feels so much softer.
I would love to go back, but its a little outside of my budget. Thanks for the pampering!

I bought a deep condition wash, dry, and hair cut package through living social (without looking at reviews of the place). When I went to book my appointment, I looked at reviews on Unilocal and a lot of them were terrible and I got nervous. But don’t get scared from the first few reviews because 1. If you go through the filter ones, all of them are excellent and 2. My hair cut was very good, I seriously can’t believe that people had such a bad experience here!
I used James D who was great! (I chose him based on reviews through Unilocal… THANKS Unilocal!) He knew what he was doing and was very friendly and gave me a great cut.
The reason why I’m not giving it 5 stars is because without the living social deal I can’t afford this place. Maybe one day I’ll be able to call Jeffrey Stein Salon my hair salon…
