Great taro boba tea. Super sweet and with lots of tapioca bubbles! Also the service was super quick and the place is hole-in-the-wall chill with only a couple of tables and a ledge for standing.

Stopped by real quick for some bubble tea, they had all the typical varieties. Ordered a Peanut and a Taro bubble tea. I actually liked that it wasn’t too sweet, bubbles were a bit soggy but it was late in the evening though.

Slipped in here for about two minutes to buy a bubble tea this past summer on my walk toward Herald Square. The ordering system was slightly confusing(mostly just because of the language barrier between me and the employee), but I definitely enjoyed the drink. It was a little on the sweet side for my tastes, but the boba was the right taste and texture. I would say they also put in an excessive amount of boba. I managed to finish the tea and still have heaps of boba remaining in the cup! I was in such a hurry that I ended up just tossing the few leftover tapioca pearls away, which saddens me now that I think about it.

This place is more than a Hong Kong family style café, no? What they have to offer goes much above and beyond. Specifically, their Japanese food selection on Seamless is incredible! Given the large numbers of selection on the menu, here’s my keyword for you: SPECIALSUSHIROLLS. Just did a quick count: they’ve got 37 kinds of regular sushi rolls, AND28 kinds of creative specialty rolls!!! I picked one of each — spicy tuna as regular, and Crazy Dragon(spicy salmon, eel, tobiko, with avocado on top). Both were very much to my liking. While the seaweed salad was just on par, the post dinner drink– HK style milk tea totally hits the spot! I indulged my dinner very much, in fact, more than most specialized Japanese places. Seriously, check them out on Seamless! PS: Bonus point, the delivery guy was super kind and efficient.

Fear not, fear not — this is still JJ Hong Kong Café. However, it seems like they’ve added to their menu(well, an entirely new, separate menu called JJ Sushi Café Japanese Fusion). I recently came to order takeout, and my heart dropped to see this new menu. But the cashier assured me that the original menu was still available(just out of stock). Since first coming here last year at its grand opening, I still enjoy the food and the comfort it brings. It’s good to see you, JJHK.

This place gets 5 stars for taking me back to my good old days in Hong Kong. I miss the peculiarity of the menus there, somewhat reminiscent of my time living in Hawaii or traveling to Singapore. Spam, Pork Chops, Spaghetti, Bubble Teas, condensed milk, fish balls… all very authentic, and considered ‘comfort foods’ for the HK crowd living in NYC. I always order either the Spam and Eggs(three pieces of luncheon meat with 2 eggs over rice, very ‘HK’ and Hawaiian of me) for $ 6.95 or I get the pork chop, served with vegetables over rice. Rice(white or brown) is always very well cooked. If you order delivery, I think they have easily the NICEST delivery man ever. So his tip increases every time. Such nice contrast to the shitty ‘China Gourmet’s of Midtown, with their fat lips and their attitude. Overall, if you have a sentimental nature leaning towards the Pacific and its variety of cuisine, specifically regarding East Asian influences from Southern China(HK), then this place will hit the spot for a good lunch.

A hole in the wall. Two tables(although with pretty nice pattern). So-so flavor, prices that match its location.

I passed this spot on the way back from NYSC and was ravenous. I noticed the 10% OFF — Grand Opening sign and immediately was excited because a.) sushi is always expensive b.) found a new sushi spot on my way back from the gym. I ordered the Pink Lady Roll and some edamame. Total came out to 16 bucks which is still steep for dinner but do-able. UMMMMM — When I got home, I discovered TEN gigantic pieces of pretty pink sushi(see photo). Okay, when I ordered sushi in Jersey City from either Box or JC Sakura, I got six measly pieces for the same price. The sushi was delicious, I saved half of it for dinner the next day. Spicy mayo was on point too. Will definitely be stopping by here again. Also, it took less than 10 minutes to prepare my food. It’s a small joint but has some seating available. It is definitely designed to be a to-go place and they even have a window so you can order from outside like an old fashioned ice cream parlor.

Food ====== $ 3,55 Large jasmine milk tea w/boba boba was too soft, no real chewiness or consistency to it at all. as noted, the tea was watery, but cheapest price altogether i’ve seen so far; this combo anywhere else would be $ 4.60 and cash only to boot Décor ======= Two tables, four chairs, red coloring of the type that seems like it;ll peel any minute Service ====== A lady working behind the counter; seemed busy which i thought was odd as there were 4 customers, three in a single party already served & seated and then there was me Extra! ====== — Credit Card… yayyyyyy! so rare to see this without a minimum

Overall, rounded up to 4 stars because they accept CREDITCARD but 4 stars for mini fried buns and 2.5−3 for Horlick. My friend was raving about Horlick and I had never heard of this drink before, so we decided to meet at JJ Hong Kong Café after work to give it a try. We ordered Horlick– HOT– for $ 2.35. The cup size was about the 6 – 7 inches tall. It wasn’t too bad. It’s milky and malty. Apparently cold Horlick is gritty and the hot Horlick’s grittiness comes at the end when you see it settled at the bottom of the cup. Even though the beverage is a pretty decent size for the price, it was too watery for me. Wanted more of the Horlick taste of malty goodness. I have to say, I don’t like malted milkshakes, but this hot beverage taste different. Just try and see if you like it. We also ordered mini fried buns that comes with condense milk on the side. For about $ 4, you get 6 mini buns, which are a little bigger than the donut holes. The buns were freshly fried, think of plain yeast donut holes– no glaze, no powder sugar and no chocolate. It would have gotten 5 stars if they gave more condense milk. I love those sweet ooey goodness. It may be because I smother my mini fried buns, but even if I didn’t like them smothered, it’s better to have that option rather than coming up short in the condense milk department. Anyhow, I will round up my stars — 4. Didn’t try their food. just their Horlick and mini friend buns. Strangely addicting. I may try their other stuff and see if it’s worth trying as well.

Hi all, I found this place to be a little taste of Hong Kong. The selection is not everything but what they have is well made in the vein of HK. Not as if all HK is the same but they have a certain style. Due to cramped space one should think of this as a takeout joint. The tables(2) that does exist are really pretty fancy looking but seating is limited to four. There is also a small counter-top. Aside from this I found the food decent, pricing was reasonable(for leasing in Manhattan), and most importantly the people brought the wonderful attitude that people from HK show. If only attitude were rated then this would be 6 stars. I wish them luck as they make a go at carving out a niche here on 37th/6th Avenue. I had the Portugese style fried chicken and rice.

When searching for a lunch spot, I was surprised to find a Hong Kong style café smack in midtown. And it had bubble tea too! Seeing that it had bubble tea too, I decided to give it a try… Pissed $ 8 away on the ham and egg spaghetti lunch special that came with the chicken wonton soup. The spaghetti, a 10 year old would have done a better job boiling the water and mixing the spaghetti with soy sauce. Although I admit the chicken wonton soup was pretty good, it isn’t authentic Hong Kong café food. During my wait, I was able to get my food faster then 3 customers who ordered at the window. And the employee was flustered and apologized to customers on the phone for never receiving their Seamless orders. Many customers also came in to see only 2 tables to leave. JJ café needs a lot of work– both in their customer service and their food.

I was craving fried pork chop and found JJ through Seamless. The reviews there sounded good but I wanted a little more info. I was delighted to read that quite a few diners enjoyed the drinks and the curry fishballs. But then I was quite taken back by the folks who sounded really upset that JJ was not the HK style café they imagined or wanted. So I ordered and wanted to make my own judgment on «Family Family Café». DRINKS — My SO wanted a chocolate milkshake even though I warned him that HK is not known for its chocolate confections. An iced Ovaltine showed up, which I imagine that the cooks shouted«cold chocolate» instead of chocolate milkshake. It was fine because the price was the same and the SO enjoyed his first taste of Ovaltine :) — I ordered the Lychee Nectar with Coconut Natta, entirely unsure what Nata is. Turned out to be Lychee syrup drink with coconut jelly mmmmmmm! APPETIZERS — Ordered pork gyoza(and yes I know it should be called dumpling since it is Cantonese). Looked and tasted like gyoza which the shop very likely mass ordered from somewhere else, just like many Asian restos do. SO approved. — Ordered the chicken wonton soup and the HK style shrimp dumpling — two containers showed up with similar contents. SO ate both as I am allergic to shrimp and did not want to take a chance. As a freebie to the entrée, it was alright but would not pay to play. — Curry fishball DELICIOUS! Everything that I was hoping it would be. I did not count how many were in there but I would guess at least 10. So the price and taste were just as good HK Station to me. ENTREES — Fried porkchop over spaghetti: The porkchop was delicious fried in a panko crumb and each bite was exactly the crunch and soft meat that I was craving! The noodles were indeed lomein and sadly did not come with a sauce. Luckily, my curiosity was rewarded when I drizzled some of the curry sauce on top. Yum yum yum. — Hibachi steak and shrimp over fried rice. I was not expecting anything spectacular with this as I am biased against hibachi. The steak arrived tender and medium rare but too fatty for SO’s preference. He did like the shrimp and ate all of it. The fried rice looked like soy sauce for color and some egg, not much of it was eaten. TL;DRJJ is a great addition to the area as it is the only HK/Canto style resto that delivers to my apt. I will continue to order from them to keep trying the different items until I have a list of what I like from them. Right now I would put a pretty good bet on the cold drinks, standard gyoza, fried porkchop is delish by itself, the noodle/rice are unremarkable, the curry fishball was great! I am certain that I will be very pleased with their breakfast items too, especially looking forward to the fried mantau little buns with condensed milk to dip!

Ordered the honey dew smoothie for 3.50. and i watched them make it with real honey dew. It was pretty good, but i can find better and cheaper in flushing. I was hoping to find hong kong fried rice with tomato sauce but they didnt have it. So i ended up going to another place for lunch. I dont understand how you can call urself a hk café and not have that as one of your items.

This is a Bubble tea, smoothie and hibachi place in midtown. I’ve been going there for awhile now and usually just get bubble tea or smoothies. They have a decent selection. The bubble tea is ok and they give you plent of «bubbles»(tapioca pearls). I’ve never tried the food. Usually I would not review a place until I’ve tried the food but because this place is all about the smoothies and bubble tea, I figure I would atleast comment on my bad experience today. I ordered a passion fruit smoothie. Note the place was not busy at this time so there should be no error. Usually when they make my smoothie they throw some fruit in a blender with some evaporated milk and blend it with ice. Today horribly they didnt use fruit they actually just used premade passion fruit green tea! and mixed it with ice. I was horrified. It was clear I ordered a smoothie and was charged for a smoothie but they clearly gave me a passion fruit flavored greent tea with ice in it… I mean seriously? it seems they ran out of passion fruit and hoped they could get away with just giving me iced passion fruit green tea. Sadly I cannot come here anymore with such blatent disrespect to a frequent customer(I come here twice a week). If you dont have any fruit left tell me! don’t bait and switch my smoothie to a iced green tea!

I was craving for bubble tea… Walk passed JJHK café and I was surprised midtown actually has bubble tea shop. Not feeling really well so I decided to get a hot HK milk tea. To be honest. It is the worst HK milk tea I have ever had… It was not even warm… I should say cold milk tea… Ish… However, they are really friendly and I decided to give another star and to try out their bubble tea next time. Yea. and it’s such a small tiny place… Oh. It’s cheap as well.

This is a tiny, hole-in-the-wall HK tea house that just opened up and I’m so glad it did! They serve boba(one of my favorite things in the world) at a really cheap price — under $ 3. They also serve toast with condensed milk and other foods. I haven’t tried the food items but I do plan on trying it soon! One con is that there is almost no seating in here. There are two small tables so it’s more like a grab-and-go place than an actual sit down restaurant. It’s run by an extremely nice Asian couple! They are very friendly and have helpful food suggestions. My roommate and I both come here regularly!

This is a recently opened Hong Kong cuisine style café that is like a place you would find in Chinatown. The woman at the counter stated that they opened«about 3 weeks ago». The menu is pretty basic. It consists mostly of bubble tea, meat dishes that come with rice or spaghetti, and a hibachi meat section. Hibachi is where the meat is cooked on top of a hot iron griddle. I tried a couple of dishes from here. One was the Grilled Pork Chop with Fried Rice. The two pork chops themselves were excellent. They were very soft and tender. The fried rice on the other hand was way too oily and It was simply rice with egg and soy sauce. All in all, it was just okay. A second time I went for their Portuguese Chicken, with Spaghetti. The spaghetti is basically lo mein. The chicken itself was okay. Portuguese chicken is a dish that originates from Macau. Their version is cooked with coconut milk, cucumbers, green peppers, onions, and some cheese on top. This is a curry-like dish and was based on my personal taste, so-so.

Cheap, good, large servings, and definitely reminds me of HK dishes. Toast and condensed milk, milk tea, spam and noodles, fried pork chop and rice, curry fish balls, all were tasty. Only two small tables for seating, so more for takeout. Wish this place was in the UWS.

Saw this café on midtown lunch so I decided to stop by and try it. It beats going all the way to Chinatown for the food they offer here. First I got the almond bubble tea cold. The almond drink was alright, a little watery but at least it doesn’t taste powdery like some cafes make it. The tapioca or some would say bubbles were hard. I did not like it at all. Next time I won’t get them in my drinks. Second I ordered the fried mini buns with sweet condensed milk. It was really good better than some places I’ve had it from before. I let me coworkers have some too and they loved it. It came in a nice plastic box with 6 pieces for $ 3.95. We devoured it so fast I couldn’t take a picture. Next time I will have to try the other options on the menu like the baked pork chop over fried rice. The people here were friendly but I think a little unorganized. They had to keep asking each other in chinese(cantonese) if each person that ordered food had paid or not. Two of the ladies were chewing gum with their mouths wide opened and talking to customers like that, I thought that was pretty rude and nasty. Hope they stop with that. Also the place is a hole in the wall. Only two tables and each table only fits 2 people per a table. The prices here aren’t so bad considering it’s in midtown. Hopefully I’ll have time to stop by within the upcoming weeks.
