Run away! Don’t trust these good reviews!!!
I only know the truth and his true color until Kakosian was on holiday and i had to visited another dentist. My new dentist just looked at the x ray then told me the crown Kakosian did was very bad, not only the material was cheap and bad, but the way he placed the crown was wrong, which could make me lose the tooth in the end. KAKOSIAN could have fixed the problem many times after his mistakes when i visited him afterwards, but he didn’t. Instead of fixing the problem, he continued to find out other ways to dig into the insurance plan. He basically told me that I should have all of my old fillings replaced with enamel colored although there should be other higher priorities. He even forced me to do deep cleaning again after 4 months i did the deep cleaning with him. Although I had told him i don’t want to do it because i had other priorities, he said to me no worries, he would take care of it. OK, I WANT MY MONEY BACK! what do you mean you will take care of it? It was my mistakes to give you so many chances!!! This is Kakosian, he ignored his clients’ top priorities of dental problems and only do works profitable but unnecessary for his clients. Kakosian is neither professional nor ethical.
Kakosian just want to steal money from my pocket and my insurance plan. What is even worse, I made two dental crowns with him, one later had to be removed, the second one was so poorly done that I might lose this tooth soon!
Not only I have to spend a lot of money, time and energy, the teeth will not be back and the loss is irreversible!!!
The other day he drilled my tooth for a filling then he told me that he would have holiday soon, if i would like to have my filling done then instead of waiting until he returned, i had to pay $ 175 rush fee to get it done! I couldn’t do anything since he had drilled my tooth, but in the end, because kakosian had holidays, so i had to pay the rush fee? what the heck!
Long story in short, this guy put me through some unnecessary pain, took up lots of my time and stole my money. Yes, he is now on 24^th floor in Chrysler building and his office has a great view. But i know how you got these money from!
If you want to lose money, experience unnecessary pain and lose your teeth in the end, go to Kakosian! He has the best idea to ruin your mouth and your pocket.

The doc and his staff moved up to a top floor. It’s always been a nice, clean and friendly office and now it has killer views.

I am beyond satisfied with the services dr. Kakossian and his team have been providing for me and my family.
His great experience combined with the high end technologies deliver high end results.
The work that he does LASTS LONG and is a GREAT QUALITY.
He always takes time to show and explain the problem, gives different options for the treatment, educates how to prevent and avoid dental issues in the future. He uses all the technologies to make my experience painless and smooth.
I always had sensitive gums and thought that bleeding and sensitivity was just how my mouth was until he prescribed Invisalign treatment to straighten my teeth which prevents gum disease in the future (side effect is nicely aligned straight smile:)I’ll take that)
He is a very knowledgeable guy and advocates preventative comprehensive care.
I feel super confident having such a great dentist by my side. I know that I will never end up with any emergencies because I am always under a great supervision.
And regarding bad reviews I can say that all those people are cheap and believe if insurance allows 1000 $ per year that will include full mouth work. Dr. K works with my insurance and always discusses with me the different treatment options that are reasonable for my budget and what my insurance might cover. Insurance companies only approve the cheapest and poorest options like metal fillings that contain mercury. Do not allow insurances to dictate how you mouth needs to be treated.
If you want high end quality, upbeat atmosphere, great service (they start at 8 am which is great for me) and dentist who knows his job dr. K is your guy, let alone the outstanding location Chrysler building

I never write reviews, but I really felt I needed to write this one to save other people all the misery I went through. Just run away from this dentist office is all I can say. I went to this dentist in August 2014 for a regular clean up and check up, he said I needed to replace one crown I had because it was old (the crown was not giving me any problems, but I thought he’s the professional here), he is not under my insurance network, but he said because one of my coworkers referred me he wouldn’t charge the out of the network balance. So I agreed for him to start the work, when the work was done he explained, that the crown was expensive and will need to charge $ 500 out of pocket, of course I didn’t like it (how unprofessional is that not to keep the price upon which the work was agreed on?) but I was new to this country and always heard dental work in America was expensive, so I paid the $ 500. In addition of the out of the pocket money he exhausted all the $ 2,500 a year from my insurance, and committed fraud by charging the insurance for an appointment and work I never went to in June 2014… 2 months earlier from when I met him, so he could collect money I did not expend in the previous year (insurance cycle changes in July), he also was wondering if I was married so we could use my husbands’ insurance to continue doing work (what that heck???)… I got all the red signals from him and decided I would not come back. And I said at least his office looks OK and I think that in spite of his greedy practices he did a good work… WRONG!!! eight months later I was experiencing some pain that in a matter of 3 days progressed to the point that I could not bare the pain… This time I made sure I asked a truly good friend to refer me to her dentist … Dr. Sandra Low, which I highly recommend to anyone… Anyway, she explained the pain I was having was due to bone exposure and it happened because the dentist was supposed to leave 3 mm space between the crown and my bone and there was actually not space, the crown was seating on the bone, She had to do emergency surgery to grind the bone down, the pain after surgery was 100 time less that the pain from the bone exposure. I totally agree with the review from Cecy I. below, this doctor does not see you as a human being, he’s not interested in your health, he sees you as a walking $ sign and your insurance. I did my part by sharing this information with you.

Dr. Kakosian reply to my review is only another proof of his un-​professionalism. I went to my files and reviewed the dates I visited his office, and it was definitively August, and you tried to contact me once, not multiple times at you state. Dr. Kakosian, the only way I will reveal my full name is with my malpractice lawyer next to me, so let me know if you really want to hear about me. I have not done so because: 1) I don’t have time to loose in lawyer’s office/​tribunal; 2) I can afford to live without compensation from your part, for all the pain I had… but I can let you know that during those horrible hours of pain, you were definitively NOT in the list of my favorite people. Actually my new dentist recommended that I go back to you and ask you to rectify your work for free; but I had such a bad experience that I would not put my health in your hands and even less for free! If you did such bad work charging so much money. I cannot imagine what you would do for free. I don’t know how do you get few good reviews… I wonder if they’re real. Please do not ever try to contact me, that’s how bad I don’t want to hear from you.

I went in for Invisalign treatment. Great, professional, courteous and kind staff. The Dr. is great guy and only concerned about great results, which have been beyond great. Highly recommended!

Went with broken tooth which ripped the lip apart. Sewed the lip and fix the tooth perfectly! There almost no scar visible ant the tooth is great!

I wanted to provide a quick update on my previous review. Thanks to Dr. Kakosian, my teeth have never looked better — and this is from someone who has had teeth issues all my life. As proof of how good of a dentist he is, even though I don’t live in NYC anymore I make sure to schedule my trips to the city around my appointments with his office. **Excellent** dentist.

This place has horrible service and really bad hygiene. DO NOT GO HERE. I have been trying not to write this review, but I have had enough. I came here for invisalign. I could tell that the office was unorganized and unprofessional, but I thought for the price that I would suffer through it.
Firstly, they ordered the wrong trays, and Dr. Ken Karkosian’s reaction to the mistake was to blame the company. The hygiene is horrible. Dr. Ken Karkosian and the staff walk around with gloves on and then try to put their hands in your mouth. On several occasions, I had to ask them to change their gloves. On one occasion, I actually had someone drop one of my trays on the floor, rinse it off with water, and tried to put it back in my mouth.
In the latest instance, they scheduled me to come in for trays that were not even there. When I called to make another appointment, the staff was rude and uncooperative.
As far as dentistry, do not let these people touch your mouth. Invisalign administration is just handing out trays. I can’t imagine letting Dr. Karkosian do major work on my teeth.
If you value your time, this is not the place for you.

I have been going to Dr. Kakosian’s office for a year now for invisalign treatment. I have had no problems with him and I just finished my last tray this week and I love my results.
The staff is very professional and kind. His dental assistants are knowledgeable and always answered my questions well. Office is clean and has state of the art equipment. I love my results and would recommend him for invisalign to any one I know.
Oh, a big plus was that scheduling was always easy and when I would come in for an appointment, I never had to wait more than 10 minutes to be called into a room.
–One funny thing is that he always asked me what type of dental insurance I had. I don’t know why but nonetheless I have had a good experience in the past year with
Dr. Kakosian.

Agree with previous post by Jessica. Would not recommend this doctor at all. He is one of the type that are more concerned with money than providing good dental care in my opinion and I have seen plenty like him.
He told me the same thing that he told Jessica– to remove all of my older silver amalgam fillings and replace them with newer enamel colored fillings. I told him that I did not want to do that for pure aesthetics and only wanted to do it for a medical reason. He suggested that it was necessary for medical reasons and it would cost me several thousand out of pocket (but they would work with me on that). I didn’t believe him, so I ended up getting two second opinions and they both disagreed and said that I did not need to remove my old fillings. They told me that I should leave them in unless they were causing any problems. After that appointment, Dr. Kakosian’s office called me several times and of course I never returned their calls. Long story short, I do not recommend this doctor in the least. Steer clear, unless you want unsound dental advice (my opinion).

I started going here about a year and a half ago. In that time, I have been there 4 times for cleanings — 3 regular cleanings and 1 «deep» cleaning. The one woman that has cleaned my teeth was gentle enough, but the other had me to the point of tears streaming down my face as she tried to «fix» my teeth by digging at them (my bottom front teeth overlap very slightly). However, the roughness is not even my biggest issue with this place. For the first 22 years of my life, I saw the same dentist (he was even my orthodontist) and never, ever once had a cavity. I take very good care of my teeth and have always been praised by my previous dentist. Upon moving to NYC and going to see Dr. Kakosian for the first time, they basically told me that my teeth were in horrible shape (seriously, I am not just bragging, I have beautiful teeth). I agreed to pay for a «deep» cleaning and the initial small filling he wanted to do. Since then, I have had one or two «tiny» cavities each time I go for a cleaning, which he insists on filling. This time, I refused to schedule an appointment for the filling and plan to go to my home dentist in the summer to have them clean/​take a look at my «cavities». After reading a few other reviews on here, I think I made the right choice.

Well, I have to be fair, when I arrived in NY more than 10 years ago, I had one day to find a dentist. So I went to Doctor Kakosian, mainly because I could have a quick look at the Chrysler building. 10 years later, I am still a customer and so is my wife now. They (he works wife his wife) are always pleasant and his team is always courteous.
Yes, it’s true that I was amazed by how much attention they will devote to my coverage and fees, but fairly enough they will inform you step by step about what to do, what is covered and not. I have a good dental plan, not great, but it covers the damages of life (and sugar). They will also propose you with some options for upgrade material. It’s up to you to stick to the plan or to open your pocket.
Oh, I know, he has to propose you 10 times Invisalign… my wife was a little bit annoyed by that, but just say no if you are not interested

Not a great place, he keeps trying to get you to do extra stuff so get gets extra money, he’s not happy when you tell him you don’t need it, as big of a thief as all the rest. Not going back.

Went there today after I scheduled an appointment. I had purcahsed a groupon for a dental impant for $ 1799. Filled out a form, one was a collection type form for people who don’t pay (thought that was a little odd). I was called in by the doctor and I informed him I was there for the impant consultation. He shook my had, still standing looked at the tooth and said I would need two types of x-​rays. This would be some $ 400. He then asked if I have insurance. I told him ‘I just said I purchased the groupon, I do not have insurance.’ I also asked if the xray is needed for all impants and he said yes. So then I asked why this wasn’t stated on the groupon. He didn’t really have an answer and walked me out and said ‘there is no charge for today.’ WHAT DID YOU DO that I should be charged for??? Definately won’t be going back. Poor bedside manner. Felt like I was being hustled into paying more money. Total waste of my time.

Lightening fast, friendly, professional and all round excellent. PLUS, you get to go to the Chrysler Building, as that is where he is.
I, like many others, have a fear of the dentist, but Dr. Kakosian and his team really put me at ease and even made my visit pleasant. I highly recommend him.

I went to this guy back in 2007 after seeing his AD in the AM NY newspaper.
I never had any problems with my teeth until I met this guy.
I just needed some x-​rays and a cleaning but that wasn’t enough from him.
He basically told me that I should have all of my «old» silver fillings replaced with enamel colored although there was nothing wrong with them.
He also said that I had a small cavity that would need filling and insisted it be done with the enamel colored filling.
I told him I just wanted to get the work done that would be covered by my insurance.
When I went back to have my cavity filled he took it upon himself to remove all of my existing fillings and replace them.
Within a few days I was in so much pain I couldn’t eat.
There was a lot of pressure built up under one of the fillings which caused excruciating pain throughout the day.
When I returned to him to have the filling removed he insisted that there was nothing wrong with the way he filled the tooth, but within minutes of the removal the pain disappeared.
His office then took it upon themselves to bill me over $ 800 for the replaced fillings because alas my insurance didn’t cover the enamel colored fillings.
Long story short, this guy put me through some unnecessary pain, took up lots of my time and stole my money.
NEVER go to a dentist featured in a free newspaper.

I have an incredible fear of going to the dentist and had put off going for a number of years. Going on a recommendation I made an appointment with Dr Kakosian. Wow. The office is spotless, sunny and well run.
The administration staff is on point and were able to set things up with my insurance company in what seemed like minutes. They are always polite and chipper — even at 8AM.
Dr Irene Kakosian did the extent of my work (deep cleaning and some fillings) and she is 100% professional. I think the matter-​of-​fact demeanor around this office is what I like the most. Dental work is nerve wracking and the dentists and staff are just so calm and collected. Dr Kakosian has a steady hand and even after an intense cleaning and fillings, you don’t leave in excruciating pain. She uses just the right amount of novocaine so you are not numbed for the whole day.

I am very weary of dentists and have a general sense that they all want to perform unnecessary procedures in order to get the most from my dental insurance.
Dr. Kakosian was the first dentist I have seen in a long time that has not told me I had to get all my wisdom teeth yanked out «or else». I’m very fond of my wisdom teeth; they are not impacted, not growing in the wrong way, nor have they have not caused me any problems in 28 years — so I knew the others were after an easy buck.
Dr. Kakosian is very nice and jolly, and he works with you setting priorities for treatments, all the while letting you know what is going on with your insurance maximums. The office equipment is brand new and top notch and you cannot beat the location if you work in midtown east, like me.
