I had my hair done yesterday by Cassie. She is AMAZING super friendly and gave me her honest opinion about what she thought would and would not look good on me, which I hugely appreciate from a stylist. I had balayage done for the first time and she took the time to make sure every strand was perfect and it turned out amazing.
The salon is clean and comfortable and everyone was very friendly, I think I have found my new place!

I visited this salon with a groupon deal for a cut and color and I was helped by Danielle who was amazing. I had a great experience. I can’t say with certainty what the experience is with the other stylists, but I will be coming back to see Danielle for touch ups in a few months. She explained all the other extra charges, unlike some other salons out there (eh hem, keratinBar, eh hem). Come by and ask for Danielle (she works on Tuesdays) and tell her Grace sent you :)

I had a great 1^st time experience today. I was gifted a hair cut and gloss. Philip took me early and started my gloss before the salon even opened! He was great. I live across town and would travel there just to have him do my hair again.
Would recommend Philip to all my friends and everyone on Unilocal!He is a must meet.
Thank you Philip for a great hair cut and gloss for my birthday. Ill be back!

Let me start by saying I do like my color. I purchased a groupon but doesn’t make a difference by the time you purchase the toner and olaplex (which I found on Amazon for cheaper) as well as pay for tax it comes to the same price as the Bayalage and haircut they charge regular price for which includes both items I mentioned above. I spent $ 200 total and I wasn’t impress to say the least. The haircut was not what I asked for (I think he got scissor happy) and the color was nice but also not what I asked for. For $ 200 I would hope I would’ve gotten at least close to what I wanted and I did not. Overall I would choose another place if I had to do this all over again. I expressed my concerns and dislike and it was not even acknowledged. I was probably more disappointed about that than anything. I would not recommend this place.
Update: I was contacted by Phillip this morning and although I appreciate the phone call I still do not believe I was heard. I made it very clear that I liked the color. I did not like the cut but it is just hair and it will grow back. Phillip offered to re-​color my hair or give me olaplex treatments. I once again expressed that it was not so much my hair service that I was disappointed with but the reaction or lack there of when I expressed my concerns at the end of my appointment. Let me be clear my stylist was VERY knowledgeable in the products as well as the process he took to color my hair. So this review was not about me not liking my hair.
While on the phone with Phillip I would’ve liked him to ask me what I would’ve wanted. This business seems to have a problem with listening to people and jumping to their own conclusions. This company overall needs to take more time listening to their customers and reacting appropriately right then instead of waiting later on to fix it once someone writes a bad review.
In addition, after reading the reviews I’m starting to believe that maybe if I wasn’t a groupon customer I would’ve been treated much better and my concerns would have been heard the day of instead of the next day. From not being able to choose my stylist to my concerns being overlooked maybe if I had come in as a regular customer none of this would have happen.

I had an appointment set up for the day of a wedding, and they called me on Friday to let me know that they would not be open for my weekend appointment. I have never heard of such an awful customer service situation where you would not either know your hours in advance or let you customers know with enough time to rebook somewhere else. I would never go back here.

My experience here was awesome! Philip is just amazing. He’s very straightforward on what is obtainable depending on the condition of your hair. He was also very upfront about pricing. I purchased a deal from the salon which was a blow dry, cut and balayage with an extra cost for toner for $ 147 altogether. I still can’t get over what an awesome deal it was. (Anywhere else comparable would be double) Philip took his time was personable, meticulous and super friendly! I have been going out of state (back home) to get my hair done since I moved to nyc last summer. I’m so particular with hair, so I’m glad I found an amazing stylist close to me in the city :)

Terrible experience. I can’t believe this place is supposed to specialize in color! They put dye all over my face, literally down to my eyebrows. The shampoo was the worst! He got water down my back, in my ears and on my face. They could use a few lessons on customer service from the Scott J salon down the street! I left with a soaking wet shirt, flat hair, dye in my ears and a sticky face from their crappy products. Also– the blowout from the «senior stylist» was just mediocre. Never again.

Philip was my colorist and I have to say I had the most thorough consultation. ALL extra charges were full explained.
I have jet black hair and wanted a summer blonde color. Philip went over the process’ this would entail AND that because I was going from dark to blonde the treatments I would need. Of course there were extra charges and time needed to get to my desired results.
KOLorbar is clean and friendly and they even offered me a glass of wine! Thank you SO MUCH Philip ! I am truly happy!

Philip did an amazing color correction on my hair today, I have followed him and have never been so happy! Today’s cut and color are my favorite yet! I colored my hair with box die at home — bad idea — He was able to not only fix my hair, but offered me an amazing treatment with olaplex. My hair feels brand new. Can’t stop smiling! Thanks Philip! Seriously — go see Philip — he listens, he has ideas, he’s the best.

Summer ’16 Look
Sooo happy with how my hair came out. I bought the groupon special $ 102, but I purchased it at the salon to avoid the higher tax (tip).
My stylist Philip Joseph did an amazing job. I decided to go with whole a new look and he worked so wonderfully with me, I couldn’t be happier. I walked in open minded, he gave me some suggestions and I decided to go with it — the result is amazing. He suggested toner for my hair for an additional cost, fair and upfront with the price, great customer service.
Overall, I truly enjoyed my experience. Happy customer

This place is definitely a scam. Bought a groupon and was told the toner would be an extra 45. That’s 125.00 spent out of pocket. When I went up to the counter she tried to charge me 20.00 in tax. The lady at the counter said the tax is on the original price which is 205 dollars. If I wouldn’t have gotten the groupon I would have paid the same price. Not to mention that my hair turned brassy after one wash. Now I’ll have to pay someone else to fix it. Not worth it at all.

I rarely review (especially negative) but this needs to be done.
I wanted a single process and cut. Pretty basic stuff. Because it was so easy, I figured I’d go somewhere reasonably priced. I saw that if you book online, you get a discount. I called the salon and they said it was fine. I didn’t see anything that stated it was only good for one service. When I booked the color, I wrote that I wanted cut and blowdry for the discounted price. This means the receptionist saw what I was expecting. I was never told that didn’t apply. Online, discounted color is $ 50 and cut/​dry is $ 45.
I went right over to the salon and saw a «walk in» special for $ 99. Color, cut, conditioning treatment and blowout.
The hairstylist suggested coloring my roots and adding toner to the rest. Again, simple. I’d also like to point out that not once was I offered water.
The best was the assistant. He was friendly, attentive and gave a killer scalp massage when washing my hair.
When I went to pay, it was $ 179. For a mediocre, not busy salon, that’s insanity. When I questioned it, they were defensive and rude. They charged $ 85 for root coloring/​toner, then $ 50 for the cut and $ 40 for the blowout.
It was my first visit to the salon-​they could have done the walk in pricing. Especially since the salon wasn’t busy.
I saw other reviews about getting scammed so I thought I should share my story.

I could not have better things to say about Kolorbar! I came in here after a traumatic experience at another salon that desperately needed fixing (I was almost in tears).
Everyone was extremely friendly and welcoming. They took the time to hear what had happened, listened to what I had originally wanted and explained to me what they’d need to do to get there from the mess I had now. Everyone was just as horrified as I was about what I happened to my hair, which to me was a good sign that they knew what they were doing and would be able to help me. They were extremely accommodating of both my schedule and budget, and offered some of the services for free. This showed me how determined they were for me to walk out feeling 110% about the work they had done.
I ended up needing a color correction, toner and then balayage (to get the look I had originally wanted from the other salon). Fabio took care of 90% of it, and included a haircut (the other salon had even botched that…) for free. Christian helped with the rest.
Because the process was LONG (my hair was THAT bad), they allowed me to come back the next day after dyeing my hair back closer to what it originally was (cutting and blowing it out on the first day) to get the balayage. So I left after the first day with my hair already looking better, which was great. When we were done on the second day, Fabio noted that some of the horrific streaks were still slightly visible, so he welcomed me to come back for another touch up whenever was convenient for me. I honestly would have been fine leaving it as it was (it was already SO much better than what it had been when I walked in the first day), but I thought it was so generous of him that I took him up on it and could not be happier with the result!
The salon itself is extremely clean and nicely decorated and wasn’t too loud even when extremely busy. The entire staff was very friendly, even the people who were not working on my hair. I would gladly come back here.

The BEST haircut I’ve ever gotten!
I’ve been in the city for less than a year, and have been looking for a go-​to place to get my hair done. I happened across the groupon deal for Kolorbar and was lucky enough to get Philip as my stylist. He helped me pick a cut and color using pictures of his past work, and tweaked it based on what I wanted. The entire staff was amazing and made me feel like a supermodel. Haven’t stopped getting compliments since I left yesterday!

First they lose my reservation so I have to reschedule
Then they tell me not to buy a groupon bc they will honor the price in house
Then they try and tell me the groupon price is $ 20 more AND that they need to add another $ 120 on top of the price
Stay away!

Absolutely amazing experience at Kolorbar! Philip was very knowledgable in the products and treatments that would get me To my desired result, and wow do he do it! I’m thrilled with my much needed «new do» and can’t wait to go back again! The entire staff was happy and a pleasure to be around. I got a cut and balayage highlights over a box color that was about 4 months old and Philip made me look like a brand new person! Absolutely recommend Kolorbar to anyone needing a refreshed look!

Johnny is my go-​to hair dresser for years, and as soon as he joins Kolorbar recently (moving from Excel Hair salon), I started coming here for my hair cut. The place is really nice — great vibe, good service, talented people. Johnny knows my taste, my preference, and always delivers great hair cut that keeps the desired shape for months.
I highly recommend Johnny and Kolorbar. (By the way, this is the first and perhaps the only Unilocal review I’d ever write so it speaks volume of how highly I think of Johnny and his talent!)

Worst absolute experience of my life. I had a 1030 appointment didn’t get seen till 1130 because they double booked for balayage!!! WTF. Hair looks like a zebra too light, so inconsistent I look like a fucking zebra. Have never been as disappointed with any hair place as I am as this place. I seriously want to cry right now.
Maybe ur establishment should not double book hair colouring appointments at the same time for a Saturday morning. That’s what the disconnect was. I waited a whole hour AFTER my scheduled appointment time & THEN was there until 3:30p! After 5 hours I refused to stay any longer on a Saturday to fix my hair after it ruined my whole weekend, & couldn’t look at myself in the mirror until today when I came in the morning & was there another THREE hours & finally got the hair that I kinda wanted after 2 visits & 8 hours. The colourist did a decent job fixing it, not exactly what I wanted but I can live with it. She was able to do it because I had her undivided attention & wasn’t distracted by running between two clients because she was overbooked and overwhelmed. Maybe you need to change your policy on scheduling appointments.

Walking into KolorBar you felt the great atmosphere, the salon was taken care of nicely, it wasn’t a mess like other salons I’ve been to in the past. All the hair stylist welcomed you with Hellos and Hi’s with beautiful smiles on their face.
I needed a cut so bad my hair was so damaged from flat ironing, I left my hair to Ariela I know I could trust her, she’s done my hair in the past and it always came out amazing whether it’s a cut, color or just a wash and blow out I always loved the results.
I highly recommend KolorBar to EVERYONE !!
