L A Burdick Handmade Chocolates

I mean, it’s well designed, handmade, beautifully curated chocolate collections from a hidden-​gem, indie chocolatier in Flatiron where you can also sit down for a heavenly cup of hot or cold chocolate. What more need I say?

Very cute and cozy chocolate shop with some intense hot chocolate. I ordered the dark chocolate one and it tasted like liquified chocolate. I’m not sure if I can handle more than one of those per year but I could tell that it was super high quality. Plus, the wait staff was super friendly and brought everything to your table without charging any tip fees.
It’s a chocolate shop so you can also buy lots of goodies/​gourmet treats. Seating is pretty limited (there’s only one large table for bigger groups) but it’s great for a casual date or sit-​down with a friend or two!

Cute chocolate shop. The chocolate is delicious and great quality. It’s not overly sweet. I got a variety box for my birthday and loved everything inside of it. Great additions to it like small crunchy pieces or ganaches inside.

A bit on the expensive side in my opinion. They have a decent selection of pastries abc a limited selection of hot chocolates. Siting space is very limited.
I had the hazelnut orange cake, the dark hot chocolate and a latte. The cake was better than I had expected. The rest very was ordinary.
It’s a nice spot to bring a date… provided you find a place to sit.
Probably will not repeat this establishment again.

Best hot chocolate I can remember drinking! I believe I got the Madagascar hot chocolate. It was rich and just sweet enough and foamy on top. I’ve had it twice and I’ll be back for more.
I also love their chocolates. They’re small with different flavors, textures and shapes, and some of them get paired together and they have cute little mouse and penguin chocolates; it’s just a really nice box of chocolates. The chocolates have subtle flavors and there are a couple of caramel chocolates in there too. I usually get the ½ lb assortment because it pretty much has every flavor they make. The 1lb assortment is equivalent to buying 2 of the ½lb boxes; you don’t get any additional flavors. You have to buy the square pâté glacé chocolate, penguin and one of the mice chocolates separately if you want to try them all. I think they also have a couple of seasonal chocolates they sell in the store.
Their pastries are also delicious. The shop is cute so I love to sit and enjoy a pastry or some hot chocolate (or both) while I’m there buying chocolates for myself or as gifts.

They only have good ganaches, that’s the only thing I like about this place.

I do not like their hot chocolates either, they are the worst hot chocolates I have ever had.

Awesome hot chocolate, awesome mice. I’ve been here a few times and have never been dissapoitned with the amount of chocolate in their drinks. They really lay it on and get a great flavor. The chocolate animals they have will melt your heart with their over-​the-​top cuteness. They also melt in your mouth.
(PS. if you want a somewhat sweet hot chocolate, go with the milk chocolate. I prefer dark but milk was definitely better here)

I absolutely love this place. A little pricey but reasonable for the quality. The atmosphere is very cozy and staff is great.
They have a plethora of different chocolates to try or give as gifts. The drinks (hot chocolate, lattes, teas, etc.) and pastries are delicious. My favorite is the milk hot chocolate, which is one of the best I’ve tried. It tastes like liquid chocolate. Sometimes they have it in a mint flavor which tastes like a York Peppermint Pattie in liquid form. It’s very rich though so you may only need a small size to be satisfied.
This place is perfect for a coffee date, catch up with friends or even to get some work done. The only issue is that it gets crowded on evenings so it may be hard to find a seat and it closes early some days (7pm).

I’ve been to the location in Boston before and now that I live in New York, I’ve been wanting to try out this location in Flatiron. This is a small, unassuming chocolate shop. It’s founded by an American who didn’t understand why Americans don’t have fantastic chocolate like they do in Europe. The chocolate shop is famous for the small mice made of chocolate. However, the prices are ridiculous and I’ve only ever had their hot chocolate there. I seriously think that they have the best hot chocolate here. Please let me know if you’ve had better. In particular, the white hot chocolate is unbelievably good. The milk hot chocolate is fantastic also. The dark is a little too bitter for me. Definitely go here for hot chocolate. You won’t regret it.

The first stop on our Holiday Hot Chocolate Tour of NYC. We were not disappointed. Cozy seating and great service. Holiday gift bag options were explained by a very nice sales rep and the quality of the chocolate is something else.
We thoroughly enjoyed our little chocolate chaude and recommend all our friends to try it.

Pricey, but the chocolate mice/​turkey/​penguins/​snowmen are great holiday treats to get the friends who are on your hard-​to-​buy-​for list! I love that they can come individually packaged or in larger sets. I’ve done the math, and the 16-​mice variety box is the most economical ($ 3/​mouse), followed by the 4-​mice variety box ($ 3.25/mouse).
I make it a point to stop by if I’m going home for the holidays and don’t want to show up empty handed, or if I am going out of town to visit a friend. These treats are a sure way to put a smile on the recipient’s face! :)

A lovely, spacious chocolate shop/​café with pre-​packaged chocolate sets, hot chocolate powder, and pastries. There were a variety of hot chocolates available for a warm treat in addition to the pastries, French macaroons, truffles, and Bön bons. I really enjoyed the milk chocolate truffle that was blended with ground cashew butter and sesame seeds. It was butter, creamy, and nutty.

Dark/​milk Hot chocolates here are DA BOMB! It’s like drinking liquid chocolate. Because of this you will feel sick. But totally worth it to warm up

I found LA Burdick when studying in Boston, and had no idea they had NYC locations!
I love their hot chocolate, but it is too rich at times — it tastes like liquid chocolate and I have to split the tiny drink with one other person.
The mice/​penguin chocolates are adorable and perfect for gifting, but are not especially tasty.

I met L. A. Burdick in Boston, and was really happy when I found this one in NYC.
They have the best hot chocolate ever! They have a great variety of products, but my favorites are the hot chocolates; they are very rich, but not too sweet. The dark hot chocolate is extremely rich, and I didn’t like it very much. But the milk and white hot chocolates are the best! You just have to try it!
During summer, they also make a cold version of those drinks.

Mmmm, we meet again. My husband and I used to frequent the Harvard Square location when we lived in the area, the hot chocolate being the perfect accompaniment to walks around the square and through Harvard Yard in the fall/​winter. It’s DAMN good, made with whole milk and cream? Just cream? I dunno, it’s decadent and perfectly chocolatey. Their chocolates are by far my favorite chocolates. Ever. It’s what every other chocolate should strive to be.
My hubby says this location is a bit smaller (eh, it’s NYC) and their truffle selection not as varied as the one in Cambridge.

If you’re a chocoholic (as I am), this is the place for you. I love Burdick and visit on a regular basis. probably more frequently than I should hehe.
Burdick’s has a great variety of all things chocolate — truffles, bars, cake, hot chocolate, mochas, s’mores kits, hot chocolate kits, books, etc. Everything I’ve tried has been fantastic, though the white hot chocolate and milk hot chocolate have probably got to be my favourite things from Burdick’s. The hot chocolates here are not like most places in which the so-​called «hot chocolate» is just a syrup mixed with steamed milk (yes, I’m talking about you, Starbucks). Burdick’s hot chocolate is legit chocolate that is hot and creamy and wonderful. I highly recommend.
Service is friendly and polite. I am always greeted with a smile and the staff seem happy to answer any questions. The space in general and bathroom are always very clean and well kept.

A good assortment of product, and a friendly staff. I loved the fig infused chocolate and all the locally sourced chocolate from all over the world.
This place is definitely not cheap, but good quality chocolate never is. I brought a few items back to LA as gifts, and everyone loved them.
I’d definitely go back if I found myself in New York!

Most people have forgotten the chocolate shop that was in abc carpet and home. It was Michel Cluizel’s perfect hot chocolate recipe before Michel grew too big and standardized everything. There was a long pause until L.A. Burdick came along and fixed the situation. Here you can actually have a hot chocolate and remember why it remains a popular drink. Here — the truffles and the chocolates all come together perfectly and here you can hide away from the world and go in to your own for just a little bit of time … Oh and did I mention with just the perfect amount of chocolate in your mouth.
