It looks like the Christopher St. location closed. I peeked in the window and it looks like it is permanently shut down. Too bad as this was my fav burrito joint in the hood. Mostly because of the plantains – I’m going to have to cook and add my own plantains to burritos now because everything else tastes so plain. Sadly, the west village is now a burrito desert(other than Dos Toros). (in terms of review stuff, it is all moot, but this place could have used a more sterile looking kitchen and no minimum credit card processing – it’s 2016 you know)

Very generous portions and tasty as long as you pick out the sweet plantains. They use a propane torch for the quesadillas & nachos to melt the cheese so I’m assuming that would not taste good but haven’t tried it. I’ve had the burritos and tacos though, they’re good. They heap on the meat which is seasoned well. I like that they serve beer too. Nice atmosphere and great prices.

So much good. No longer have to trek all the way to Brooklyn to experience this delicious Mexican food. Loved everything from the Mexican Coca-Cola(something I haven’t had in half a decade) to the super-layered grilled chicken Nachos, the burrito stuffed with steak, yellow rice, and sweet plantain(a surprising and very welcome sweet addition to the hot Picante sauce). I loved the roasted/charred taste from the flambé torch, it gives the dish a very rustic taste. I will definitely go back more, and more, and more.

Very rude guy at the cashier. If you don’t know their food and ask questions, he will scream at you as if you should know what and how to order. They add stuff to your order without telling you that it’s extra. I ordered $ 6.50 quesadilla with a drink and paid $ 11 in the end.

It took an hour for my delivery to come and i was not that happy, but at the end of the day it was just all worth the wait. 5 stars and an hour wait for the food, you can only imagine that i thought it was amazing. Not my first order with them, so i chalk it up to a bad moment in time, but they gave me some chips i wont eat(and guac i will). Damn the chipoltely sweet sauce is heaven, as is that pulled pork quesadilla. Next time i will walk over and just get this yummy meal myself.

Amazing place! At an affordable price, I order from here more than I think. The atmosphere is beyond welcoming.

I’m so glad that this place opened up. I thought Dos Toros was good, but this place has delicious rice and sauces that Dos Toros doesn’t have. I do the chicken burrito, pinto beans, no cheese and chipotle/tomatillo sauce. Their plantains are also delicious.

Tacos were great. People are courteous. Thanks again. An air conditioner will be nice. :).

Terrible service. Waited ten minutes for them the let me into an unoccupied bathroom after my subpar meal. They can’t even use the fact that they were busy as an excuse, since I was the only one there. Don’t go here.

I love the concept. It is an order in restaurant. You order your food and have the option to take it to go or sit down and eat. The food is okay. The guacamole isn’t the best and that hurts my heart. Not having good guac in a Mexican restaurant is like not having a proper steak knife to enjoy your steak. The food is fresh and you do receive a good portion size.

I was at the Christopher location on Friday night and opted for the steak burrito — it was amazing. I LOVE Chipolte and the La Gringa burrito killed it. The flavors and texture were amazing. My friends thought so too(they had the fish tacos) and the people sitting at the table next to us were also loving on their food. I just had to let my fellow Unilocalers know. I am officially addicted. By the way the open seating backyard on a hot summers night is a perfect addiction to a great meal.

Where do I begin? The burritos are awesome and let me tell you they pack in the meat and filling like no other taqeria around. The tacos may seem a bit pricy at first but when you see how much they put in them you will be a very satisfied customer. They are also working on getting a license to sell beer so this spot will be popping! As for the environment it is full of creative art and good music you can enjoy your meal to. The place is clean and so is the bathroom. The patio is open during the warm month and there is a cool breeze flowing through.

Who puts plantains in a burrito??? Note: this is standard, not some add-in. This is not ok for a place that bills itself as having«cali-style» burritos. I’m from«cali» — we don’t put bananas or any other fruits in our burritos, sorry. Also, mine should have had twice the meat and ½ the rice and the chips were incredibly stale. On the bright side, it wasn’t the worst burrito I’ve had in NYC and at least they use grilled tortillas unlike Dos Toros.

La Gringa is a great spot, cheap and very copious –as tend to be Mexican food! We had a coupon for complimentary guacamole, so naturally, we went in to try. We’ve ordered from them a few times since then. The concept is similar to chipotle; you can choose a salad, items over rice, a burrito, they also make quesadillas. It’s awesome. I had a salad topped with chicken and plantain chips. Yum

A heavy, hispanic woman claimed to be the manager. Very nasty and rude! This is so unlike the Brooklyn location, I have eaten at several times. The food did not taste the same either.

Of these Chipotle clone style places, this is the worst one I’ve ever been to. Safe to say they don’t really know what they are doing here. Soggy and salty food. They torch the cheese and put sweet plantains in the burritos. Both add nothing really in terms of flavor. I feel bad berating what looks like a small mom and pop business, but the reality is there is just no reason for this place to exist. What they should do(or what someone should do) is just make authentic mexican food. that’s really what people want. I wish there was a good little taco spot right here like what is seen all over east harlem. Ya know, with an al pastor spit and freshly made tortillas. Or something similar to the place inside Chelsea Market that has amazing tacos. I’d eat there 4 times week even if such a place was 3x more expensive because of the location. Someone should take note, because I fear La Gringa will not be around for very long.

Despite the array of excellent restaurants within a half mile, there are surprisingly few options for a $ 10 – 15 quick takeout option nearby… basically just pizza, burgers or Chinese. Since this neighborhood doesn’t need another leather bondage shop, I was happy that La Gringa was making a go of it. Especially since that address has swallowed up several previous restaurant tenants. The bad news is that the whole thing — food, atmosphere, service — lacks character. Another reviewer compared it to Chipotle, which I regretfully agree with. La Gringa is in the same class but for the fact that it’s not a massive corporate chain. Like a massive corporate chain though, the employees seemed confused and sort of unhelpful. Both times I’ve been there, I gave to the tip jar because I honestly felt bad that a simple order had caused confusion. Anyways, the food is actually pretty good in the way that Chipotle tries but usually fails at. Nothing too fancy, but fresh ingredients in tried-and-true dishes. As a neighborhood fallback option, I hope Christopher Street can help them work out those kinks and provide faster, smoother service… not the other kinds of kinks.

Interesting new place in a neighborhood of decent(but not great) mexican food. I feel bad comparing it to Chipotle, because it feels homier and more authentic, but the aesthetic and tastes are similar. We had the burritos: meat was good, rice lacked flavor, and the plantains were a great touch in concept but less so in practice. Really, they just got soft and soggy in the burrito. Chips and guac were so-so; chipotle is definitely better if you want flavorful chips and guacamole. They do, however, deliver, and they’re a nice addition to the neighborhood.
