Las Americas Bakery

This place got poor reviews but i think it really depends on what you are looking for. This is a local bakery that caters more to the local community which is largely Hispanic/​Latin. If you want some flan, or Dominican cake this is the place that you need to go to in the area.

If I could give it no stars I would. Every time I have gone in the last few days hoping to get one of the oreo cakes, which looks delicious, I have left empty handed. Why, you ask? The woman working the counter can not keep her damn hands out of her mouth. It’s disgusting! This is food service! Get it together. I don’t care of you use gloves, tongs, bakery paper– keep your hands out of your mouth. Why anyone thinks it’s appropriate to pick their teeth and then serve customers grosses me out. I will NEVER eat anything from here and neither should you. Who knows what’s going on when no one is watching! Yuck!

Perfect birthday cake… wanted a chocolate Dominican cake with caramel filling… they were the only place of the 5 we went to that would make it chocolate… the others said they could only do chocolate icing…
Might have to get another… no special occasion, just becuase everyone loved it.

This place just shouldn’t sell cakes, period! Went in to order a small birthday cake for our son’s birthday. One of the women at the counter gave me a book to pick designs from. I was excited to see that Jake and the Neverland Pirates was an option and asked if I could get the design on a small cake. I was told that I could only get it on a cake that weighed ay least a pound (1lb is a lot of cake!). I couldn’t justify buying a cake, large enough for about 15 servings, for only 4 adults, 1 toddler, and an infant who was allowed one lick of icing, simply for a design. Instead, I settled for a half-​pounder (which was still too much), with pineapple filling and their generic flower design and trim. I ordered and paid for it on Thursday nd hubby picked it up on Saturday. I asked him how it looked and he gave the typical, «it’s ok» response, so I let it be.
On Sunday, just before putting the candle on the cake, I finally get a look at the writing on the cake. The lettering was crude and some genius wrote HAPPY BIRTHDAY BDAY. They ran out of room to write, so they scribbled, what was supposed to be, our son’s name on the cake, in tiny, illegible squiggles! Seriously, the 4 year old probably could have written it better, himself. The name looked so horrible that I suggested hubby put the candle on top of it to cover it.
Then we taste the cake. At first taste, it wasn’t too bad. The icing was light and the cake was decent. The bottom, however, was a nasty soggy mess. It was as if they dropped a bottle of rum or vanilla extract onto an already baked cake! We all had one slice each and threw the rest of the cake away. The birthday boy ate half a slice and said, «Do you have any raisins?»
Please do not buy a cake from these folks. They are clearly unprofessional as hubby told me the three cashiers crowded around the cake before showing it to him. They obviously knew they had screwed up but didn’t have the decency to offer a refund or anything else for our trouble (although, if I had gone, best believe that POC [piece of crap] would’ve been gratis!)

Great little place. While taking bar exam at the amory found this terrific bakery. Pastries are amazing and wonderful variety coffee is individually steam made and strong. Clean and small. Very nice don’t miss

I like this place fine. Can’t beat the cheap prices! The pastries are okay. Most of the time, it’s full of people. Sometimes I can get a window seat.

One of the best bakeries around. Their croissants (and all pastries for that matter) are always fresh and delicious. The tres leche is great, as well. Actually, I haven’t had anything I didn’t like at this place, and the prices are phenomenal.
Also, they definitely accept credit, but there is a $ 6 minimum.
For those who don’t speak Spanish, there is usually someone there who speaks English. If you’re willing to be a little adventurous, try saying, «me das esto y eso, por favor» (points to items).
Con mucho la mejor panadería del barrio, si no toda la ciudad.

If you live in the area then you know this place has excellent Spanish pastries. The shop is designed to cater to the local clientele, but that doesn’t mean the passerby isn’t welcomed. I recommend the croissants that are brushed with honey. The place only accepts cash and be armed with a little Spanish.

“Shrimp Empanadas. Do you serve them here?”
«I don’t know what that is.»
«You don’t know what shrimp is?»
Shakes head left to right with a confused face «No, never heard of shrimp. We only have chicken, beef & cheese empandas here»
Unsure whether the Spanish girl behind the counter didn’t know what shrimp was or if she was unfamiliar with the English word for shrimp. Either way I chuckled. The pastries looked fresh. I enjoyed my chicken empanada and croissant.
