Living New York

First of all, I was advised against getting a broker. «Find a No Fee place» all my friends said. I found this apartment and Kevin from Living New York was the broker. He showed me the place. I was hesitant to trust him because of my preconceived notions and dealing with other brokers in the city, however he was kind, informative and patient with me as I thought through the whole deal. He was honest with me about my individual circumstances and the New York City Real Estate market.
Once I decided that I wanted to move forward, Kevin spoke with the management to negotiate my deposit. He was extremely helpful along EVERY step of the way, down to making revisions and clarifications of the lease agreement on signing day. If you are hesitant about using a broker /​company, please consider Living New York. Kevin was sincere, knowledgeable and extremely genuine from the jump. He actually lived in the building he was showing me, and something about someone selling me a place they not only WOULD live but actually DID, just felt right. Thanks again for all your help finding my first apartment in NYC Kevin!

This review is specifically for Naomi Watanabe, since my partner and I didn’t interact with Living New York. Honestly, we didn’t think someone like Naomi existed. After slogging through the housing search on our own and with some incompetent brokers for a few weeks, we met Naomi by chance and were blown away by her tenacity and professionalism. Actually, we were blown away by how much she GOT us. A sense of optimism is more important than anything else. Naomi doesn’t try to convince you to take something that isn’t right for you. In fact, she was the one who insisted we stayed true to our long list of «ideals» when at times we thought it wasn’t possible. She obsessively scouts neighborhoods, talks to tenants, even makes anonymous calls to building management to see how responsive they would be if there was a maintenance issue. In short: she cares. Our new place is perfect for us, and it’s fueling our creative careers.

Once again I had to move and I was wanting to stay in Astoria, well needless to say all the broker here sucked and I got screwed a bunch of times. I was looking in Inwood and Living NY had a bunch of nice places in Washington Heights as well. Dean was great NO BS and the place was better than the actual pics. The process was pretty easy though there were a lot of forms it was painless and honestly Dean was worth the fee.

Adam was very responsive and flexible in hleping me find an apartment. He responded to all my calls and requests and was promp to all our meetings. I would highly recommend him if you are looking for that great spot in NYC

Naomi is the best!!! She helped us navigate the crazy NY apartment rental process and was with us every step of the way. She often went above and beyond her duties and ensured that we were always informed, happy, and comfortable.

Came across Living NY while using RadPad to find my boyfriend and I’s first apartment together.
We originally connected with Ed Emmanuel who is amazing. He initially showed us some apartments that weren’t really in line with our tastes, and the dropped a gorgeous top floor gut renovated apartment in a lovely building. Ed was kind, extremely available, and forthright about the entire renting/​broker process when he could have completely taken advantage of two young adults with literally no idea how to navigate the renting process.
Ed eventually handed us over to Adam Toback to seal the deal. Adam is organized, prompt, and extremely flexible! He was sweet enough to waive the credit check fee when there was a misunderstanding regarding the broker’s fee, and he even came to my boyfriend’s parent’s house a 9PM so that we could sign the lease, since we don’t have much time available during the day.
All in all I would work with Ed or Adam from Living NY again when we’re ready to move. But I’m so in love with this apartment, I can’t say that’ll be anytime soon!

I highly recommend Adam and Evan. Adam was completely forthright when it came to information regarding a particular unit/​building and he really listened to what my preferences were in regards to apartment criteria. Evan always followed up immediately and his attention to detail was impeccable. I cannot recommend these gentlemen highly enough!

Evan Osur from living NY helped us getting a real 2BR for a great price while looking for 1BR (never thought I would find 2BR within our budget). I will call it «new home» thanks to his connection with this particular landlord. I have lived in NYC metro area last 18 years and went through numerous landlords and management companies. It is a very tough city to find «a home» while you have to keep proving and struggling just to be a part of it. His communication was on point and didn’t waste our time yet he was very patient when we were extremely late for the lease signing (I totally missed a part of email and went to a different part of town). He showed his care towards us (me, my husband and our baby girl) as well as the landlord who is a very tough grandmother of five (Yes. She did chat with me about them and I personally think everyone who lived in NYC long enough should have one on your holiday card list!!) As a student of real estate world, I also checked out his listing and exclusives after this experience. He seems to have great deals and many exclusives under his sleeves and I would highly recommend him to anyone who like to find a home (not just a crappy apartment you will leave in a year if not sooner). He will find you one!!!

Just another group of scammers. I enlisted these people to help me find a new tenant for my apartment, and they did — literally — nothing. I made copy of my keys, and they never showed the apartment. On SIX different days I made myself available for 2 hour open houses, that I hosted. No one from Living NY showed up, and no prospective tenants came. Posting the place online was the extent of their «assistance.» Another realtor from another organization came herself to see the apartment, but Living NYC did nothing.
The whole industry is corrupt and a scam, so Living NY isn’t an exception, just the norm. The internet has rendered their jobs obsolete, and now they leech off the system. Nothing good to say about these folks. Totally unhelpful.

My roommate and I had been planning for over a year a move to THE CITY. After many months of research, we knew what we wanted, what we needed, and what we could afford. Living more than 1,000 miles away, my roommate flew in for a few days to see what Manhattan could offer us!
She got off the plane around 3:30p, took the subway to the first apartment on our list, and by 5:30p, Adam was opening the door to the fantastic apartment where we now happily live. Adam waited with patience while my roommate took pictures and measurements and relayed it all to me. He quickly and kindly answered all of our questions, and trust me, there were a lot.
The next afternoon, my roommate met with Evan at their office. As is typical with rental agreements, there was so much paperwork to complete, but he allowed her to use his office and computer while collecting everything that was needed (New York requires SO much). It took a few hours, but we finally got it all worked out.
An anxiety-​filled day and a half later, my roommate tells me that we got approved! Full disclosure, she totally started tearing up. All of our research and planning had finally resulted in us being one step closer to being New Yorkers. We couldn’t believe how friendly and personable these guys were! They’re a big part of the story we can now tell about finding our awesome place. The intense and stressful event of moving across the country was made unbelievably easier by Adam and Evan helping us get the perfect apartment.

If I could leave a zero rating I would. Stay away from Adam Toback. The man offered a $ 100 gift card for showing my unit (I didn’t even ask for it) and once the unit was rented, he claimed that he had not been monetarily compensated yet and would reach out to me once he received his pay. Months later I follow up and he claims he sent me the gift card but couldn’t confirm the mailing address and said he paid in cash so he couldn’t track it. On top of this, he tells me he «assumed» that I received the GC because he sent it the following day and heard nothing from me. Talk about a scam. Is this a new rental tactic being implemented in the city? Not sure but I will definitely be reaching out to his supervisor/​upper management. Now I understand why people say NY RE agents get such a negative rep.

As anyone in NYC knows, buying an apartment can be a very hard and over whelming process –especially for first time buyers like us. The process for buying an apartment for us was just that. Thankfully we had Evan Osur and the team at Living NY to help us through this process and ultimately make us very happy that we bought an apartment. We hit a lot of obstacles on the way and the deal at one point was pretty much dead, but Evan and his team at Living NY refused to let it fall apart and ultimately got us to a closing and completed the deal. Evan was patient with the seller’s broker and lawyer and worked hard to make sure our deal got done and i AM confident he will do the same for you.

Found Evan Osur on my recent apartment search and am so thankful I did! He was easy to get in touch with, friendly and not pushy, and most importantly, straightforward! He let me know about a «no fee» apartment that I had been told had a fee by another broker. He was efficient with my application and paperwork. Such a great experience — highly recommend!

I can’t say enough about Living NY as a company and as a workplace. A few years back I decided to take a big risk, leaving a very profitable and successful sales company, so that I could delve into the world of Real Estate. At that time, I was recommended by my now current colleague of mine. He recommended the company and said you should come on board. I’m glad I listened. This company is run by a group of excellent, young, hungry professionals who consistently lead by example. I have seen the growth first hand, since I have joined the company. From improvements in infrastructure, to top agent hires, to a growing list of new accounts in both management and landlord representation, this company is destined to be known as a real estate staple among the industry. If that wasn’t enough, perhaps the greatest achievement Living NY has done aside from growing the business exponentially, is the attitude and friendliness inside the office. There is a legitimate team atmosphere within the company, and there’s always a helping hand when needed, whether it’s from our leasing director or from one of the principals. The door is always open. I for one, am happy I made the decision to give Living NY a shot, and I would recommend Living NY to anyone who is considering building a Real Estate Career.

Looking for an apartment in New York City can be a NIGHTMARE. There is so much you have to know, and then once you do, you have to find a place that you like THEN you have to deal with all the landlord drama in trying to get one.
ADAM made it so easy for us! We had no problem paying him a broker fee because he did all the work for us and found us an awesome apartment exactly what we were looking for only 1.5 months after we met him! Definitely would recommend you asking him for help because it sucks to do it on your own or with a bad broker.

I found myself in quite the pickle when I unexpectedly had to find an apartment in just a few weeks. Someone luckily sent me Adam’s number and I gave him a call. He instantly started talking me through the process, guiding me through what I was looking for, and giving me some options on places we could go see, the next day! He took me and my roommates around to dozens of places, giving us his honest opinion on whether it was over/​under valued and worth our time. We all appreciated his ability to hit the ground running with our search along with his candor and willingness to help.
I would definitely recommend Adam!

I had a bit of a unique situation where I live in LA but was helping my parents find a weekend pied-​à-​terre in Manhattan (they live in CT). Adam Toback was extremely helpful throughout the entire process — communicating with both my parents, who came into the city to view apartments and myself via email and phone in LA. Unlike some agents who can be pushy, Adam walked us through every step without any pressure. They ended up finding a great weekend getaway on the Upper East Side.
As we all know, moving and apartment hunting is a burdening process as it is — so it’s nice to have someone like Adam to make it easy breezy.

I ultimately did not end up working with Living New York. I had been connected with them through Zillow and received a text message from Adam Toback the following day. I then received an inordinate number of text messages at absurd times (as late as 10−11pm). After canceling an appointment (albeit close to the time we were going to meet) I was accosted by incredibly nasty, hostile, and rude texts from Mr. Toback. He was a terrible person to me and I would never ever recommend him to anyone. I also plan on contacting his supervisor regarding the situation. I wish I could give zero stars.

I came across Living NY early in my most recent apartment search when viewing one of their listed apartments. I didn’t end up liking that apartment, but actually ended up working with the agent who was showing that apartment, Adam Toback.
I thought he was hard working, responsive, not very pushy, respectful of my budget and criteria, and had a nice personality. Apartment hunting can be an overwhelming process with not a lot of transparency and each time around, I just get more paranoid… It was helpful to have someone to provide a professional opinion and schedule all the appointments. We ended up seeing quite a few apartments — around 17 apartments total over the course of two weeks, until finally finding the right one.
It was an apartment that I would definitely have overlooked on my own because it didn’t look great in pictures while it was undergoing renovations, so I credit Adam with having the imagination to look through that and knowing how much of a sucker I am for apartments on cute streets with historic charm. =P He did as much as he could to ensure the renovations would be done as promised.
I don’t know much else about the company. It’s clearly not one of the larger companies in town, but I didn’t have much luck last time (
) with the usual suspects anyway so I think it’s all very dependent on the individual agents. I did have to go to their office to sign the lease and that at least seemed small, but legitimate.

My boyfriend and I looked at numerous apartments (in numerous neighborhoods) on our own through Craiglist and couldn’t find anything that was big enough, on a street safe enough and still in our budget. That’s when we found Adam Toblack. He found us a gorgeous apartment in our price range and even bigger (and generally better) than our current place.
Adam worked his butt off making sure everything was perfect. He meticulously walked us through every step of the application process and prepared us for all possible obstacles (there tend to be many in NYC) to ensure we found a place we loved no matter what. I’ve already recommended him to a couple of friends and highly recommend him to anyone who is looking for an intelligent, reliable broker who will go above and beyond to help you find what you’re looking for.
