MAC Cosmetics

I went here to get my makeup done for my 30^th birthday! When I got home I was in tears!!! I looked horrible! It took forever to wash the makeup off my face! I had to then look up a beginners tutorial and thank god, I did one hell of a job on my face! I can’t believe I paid $ 100 for my face to look like total crap!!! I regretted not walking back in and demanding my money back! Anyway stay away!!!

No! Zero customer service here. Artists seem very hungry for commission. Go if the high pressure sale is for you.

I am going to preface this review by saying I am OBSESSED with makeup — have been to cosmetology school, am always watching You Tube makeup tutorials, following a million makeup artsists on instagram, etc.
I LOVE MAC MAKEUP and this is such a great location! This mac has better hours than some of the other macs. Their staff is always super-​friendly and helpful.
Like another reviewer said on here, I followed Alicia from the Columbus store (Even though soho is way less convenient for me :)) because when I get my makeup done by her it always looks *beyond amazing* and I get soo many compliments. I would follow her anywhere, she is the absolute queen of the smokey eye. I am always bringing in pictures– «can we do an Eva Longoria eye» or «can we do this J Lo from the golden globes eye» and she always gets it perfect! I am always in such a good mood when she does my makeup– she is truly amazing.
This is now my favorite mac– I go here way too much and spend way too much money here-it’s awesome :)

Customer Service was ideal…
I actually went over here on my lunch and looked at their options.
I know they are VERY different than the store. Although, they had the Rihi (Rihanna collection) & Cinderella. I also felt like their prices were cheaper, but I really don’t know for a fact of that is true…
I LOVE some of these peachy colors coming out, but I doubt they have all the new ones.
you can’t use your Mac Gift Cards here, a coworker tried and she couldn’t.
I think their customer service is pretty amazing and the guy who helped me was wayyy better than the stores I normally shop at. Also better than the Mac store in Brooklyn (they were mean and rude).
I was going to the store on 23^rd (flatiron district), but the service was horrible.
I knew what I wanted too, which pretty much sums up the idea of NOT giving them my service again.
Any who I suggest you go there first to kind of get some play time, talk about the product and educate yourself with their people. They work on commission everywhere but I feel like you will get your answers/​questions out of the way if you visit this store.
Oh yeah Century 21 is crazy, but the cosmetic stuff and fragrance isn’t that crazy (go after work (5ish on a friday). It’s kind of more chill there.

I’ve been working with Alicia for years and she just transferred to this store location from MAC Columbus, (which is more convenient for me & I’ve been going there for 7+ years) but even though MAC SoHo is so far from me I go there just so I can continue to work with her.
Alicia understands everything that I like and don’t like and shopping with her NEVER feels uncomfortable or pushy; especially when some sales associates try to sell you things just to make a sale. Shopping with her is like shopping with your best friend! She always keeps me in the loop of new collections, especially with products she knows I will absolutely LOVE!!!
MAC SoHo is very lucky to have an associate like her to their location! She’s such an asset to the brand and company of MAC cosmetics!

Not impressed at all. I knew exactly what I wanted but since their lipsticks are tucked away and need to be gotten by an associate I had to track someone down for about 10 minutes even though the store was basically empty. When I finally was able to get someone she gave me an attitude even though I was more than polite considering the situation. Going back to my fav MAC location: the one in Century 21 down by the financial district…

Stopped in today before attending a taping of the The Late Show with David Letterman. Being a Mac Addict in addition to a freelance makeup artist I was shocked at the way they treat customers. Being that it was 20 outside I popped in for a quick touch-​up before the taping and didn’t even get a simple hello from 2 of the «makeup artists» that were just standing there gossiping. All the others were with customers so I get that but come on, you two are in a customer service position. Act like it. When I approached to ask if I could get a quick touch up they both looked at me like I was speaking another language. They then looked at each other and rudely said, «we only do that with the makeup that you would purchase». Seriously? Look I have a Mac Pro card you idiot. You get what you get. Enjoy working in retail the rest of your non-​existent careers.

I wish there was a way I could give negative stars. If you want to be treated rudely & spoken down to, shop at this store. Did to me recent experience I will never be purchasing MAC products again.
I went in there to return a product that created an allergic reaction. I purchased it at another MAC store & no longer had the receipt. The salesgirl told me I had to call the customer service line about returning it. I asked to speak to the manager and he was the rudest person. He had an attitude, called me Hun, and told me that I needed to go back to the store of purchase. He was dismissive and shouldn’t be in customer service.
Thank you MAC. I will be giving business elsewhere. Oh, it was the gentleman covered in tattoos with the gauges in his ears. Rude.

This is my favorite MAC store I have found in new York. They have always been super nice and willing to help. They have taken time to find the right colors and even suggested on ways to save money which will be more beneficial to me. They also let me know about Rhianna’s red lipstick which I am know in love with.
I will keep coming to this location.

Horrible service! The service in here is just horrible. Since i live and work in the area, this is the closest to me so I usually stop by in times when I’m all out of foundation etc. Everytime, the service has been awful. Today was my last straw. (on break from work down the street) I come in, ready to buy what I need, the LP gaurd says Hi (at least) and everyone is busy doing customers their makeup or their own or talking to themselves. EVERYONE ignores me standing there by the foundations for 10 minutes whole! finally i ask for help and the girl tells me «im actually busy doing someones makeover ill be right there» with an attitude as she continues walking, like ok? can you refer someone else to me? then a girl comes and ask me if im ok after she heard the other girl, with a sad face and her eyes wide open like I’m sick for standing there, when i tell her everything i need she quickly gets them (of course, she’ll want that big sell under her name) and i put my hand out to take them myself to the register in front of me and she pulls her hand back and gives me the «eww» face like god forbid i touch the products I’M going to buy. At the register im again ignored nor looked at by the cashier who seemed like a manager and when i swipe my card she acts like my card didn’t work then glance at her friends when the receipt came out. Had i gone in with a fur coat and heals like I’ve seen some do and get assisted right away, i’d be better off
Im annoyed about the attitude and no form of welcoming guests in here. If everyone wants makeovers, at least have 2 employees managing sales and the cash wrap for those who know what they want right away. Its annoying to spend over 15 minutes to buy something without no line at the register… I’ll go to Bloomingdale’s next door from now on… Thanks

Awful service. Horrendous makeup artists that are impolite and unprofessional. The attitude is free with your purchase.

Really helpful ladies here. Not as busy as you’d think seeing as it’s located in Soho. Everything is stocked for the most part and the store is really clean. Not much else to say really…

Came here to get my makeup done for my birthday, and I’m so pleased! The store wasn’t insane, but busy as it usually is at 6p on a Saturday. I was a few minutes late due to train problems, and when I got there they were waiting for me with a smile, and weren’t peeved at all that I was a few minutes late.
My artist Mariam (might not be how she spells it) was absolutely incredible. Immediately upon sitting down, she got a feel for my taste (hi, glitter.), and did an absolutely stunning job! She was really attentive, and I’m so happy that I got her!
Overall, a great experience.

I had an event to go to and forgot my makeup. Scarred from childhood experiences at the mall getting green eyeshadow applied before prom, I was reluctant to let a stranger put on my makeup… especially when so many MAC girls wear thick stuff! I called at 3:30 (procrastinator I am!), got an appointment at four. I said to the very friendly phone person «please give me someone with experience. I don’t want to look like a clown, and i don’t want penciled in red eyebrows»
All I can say is, I SCORED when I got Lisa. SCORED!!! Beautiful makeup, great personality, she made me queen for an evening.
I have never heard «fierce!» so many times in one night…
Lisa really should just sit back and tell herself «I’m awesome» over and over again!

Love it. Went to the «Sailor» Collection opening party and it was amazing. I felt like I was at a VIP event. The had dancers and the staff was all dressed up. They served awesome drinks and lil snacks and let me go crazy in the make up lol. Had a great time, would love to go to an event again!!!

Although this is spot is pretty centrally located in the heart of the Soho shopping, it’s a small space with too, too many HOT lights. I wasn’t sweating at all getting here, but by the time I left with purchasing a gift card for a friend, I was so sweaty! I’m sure the folks here were nice, but the warm temps inside will keep me at bay. Please, please turn up the air! It’s summer too, ya know!

I love makeup! Especially Smashbox products. However, after my recent trip to the MAC store in SOHO, I may have a new favorite brand. Thank you J. Brandon!
J. Brandon greeted me as soon as I walked in the door, and after listening to me complain about my eye makeup constantly smearing throughout the day, he recommended the best eye liner and mascara I’ve ever owned. I hate to be so dramatic but even without primer, it doesn’t run, smear or smudge. The best part: after suggesting the products he actually took the time to show me how to best apply them (I’m a tad makeuo challenged having grown up before YouTube makeup tutorials existed). I use all the tips he gave me on a daily basis. He’s quite the talented makeup artist, a total professional, and did I mention fun? My only regret is that I didn’t have enough time to stay for a full makeover. I def plan on returning to this location with some friends to get a new summer look!

I followed my sister in here on a whim while our friends were next door at Bloomingdale’s.
I’d been searching for lightweight makeup that would give full coverage. After being greeted by someone, she handed me off to a guy who sat me down and handed me a makeup remover wipe. After I removed the makeup from my cheeks, he began applying foundation, concealer, and setting powder. I couldn’t believe how good I looked! He matched my skin tone perfectly in less than a minute.
While he was applying my makeup, he told me that only makeup artists are hired to work at MAC, which is pretty cool. I walked out with everything he put on my face!
If you have uneven skin tone/​redness, MAC has the best coverage of any makeup I have ever tried.
One star off because while pretty friendly, a lot of their staff stands around and my sister had to wait almost 20 minutes to buy a lipstick. I’d go back though because its a convenient location.

HORRIBLE MAC store. It’s a complete mess in here. I came looking for a very specific eyebrow pencil and couldn’t get someone to help me for 10 minutes straight. Then I saw the installation on the wall with eyebrow pencils all organized and exposed by the door… awesome! I found the color I needed and was about to grab it and pay when the security guard stopped me «You’re not allowed to get your own products or touch the display!»
It’s not like I was stealing! I literally just came in to buy this exact pencil and had already wasted 10 min waiting for someone to help me.
How am I supposed to buy ANYTHING here? I waited 10 min, found my product myself, and was going to pay for it. I was basically asking to give them my money and they wouldn’t take it. What a horribly run business!

Unfortunately I have to agree with the low rating of this store. I love MAC products and use them almost exclusively. I had a makeover and purchased tons of products in the Santa Barbara, CA store because the artists there were so great and fun and helpful.
So when I wanted to buy a few new things like lipstick and gloss, I popped into this store on an evening during the week. Well, the music was pumping and the store was busy, but I could not get any help on the floor. I tried several lipsticks, glosses, etc, and nobody asked if I needed any assistance. After looking around, obviously wanting help, I finally went up to the cashier and asked them to get me a lipstick, which I brought with me. She looked at me, disgusted I would hand her one of the tester lipsticks, and told me to wait. A few minutes later, a different person rang me up without looking at me (the only words exchanged between us: «This yours?»), and I paid and left.
It’s a shame, because with a little help, I probably would have bought a lot more. Your loss, MAC.
