Madison Avenue Orthopaedic Associates

I was a patient of Madison Avenue Ortho Associates for more than five years, seeing both Dr. Razi and Dr. Pereira. I have no complaints nor any issues with these doctors. They are both professional, thorough, and seemed to care about my health and well being.
My issue with this practice lies entirely with the front office staff. They have to be the most unprofessional, difficult, unhelpful, and apathetic «front of house» staff I have ever encountered. Calling to make an appointment is a painful experience – whomever answers the phone almost always seems exasperated and as if you are causing them great inconvenience. If you have to leave a message, good luck hearing back from anyone. The same goes for visiting their office for the appointment. The way they act makes it seem like someone just killed their puppy and that you – the patient – are the absolute worst person in the world. And like other reviews have mentioned, you’re almost always going to wait 30 minutes to an hour past your scheduled time to see the doctor. This happened to me each of my 8-​ish visits to them over the five years I was a patient.
Most recently, I’ve tried to have my records sent to new doctors (I left NYC and moved to TX almost two years ago). I can’t imagine the surgeries these doctors perform are any more complicated than trying to get your records transferred. After multiple attempts to clarify and confirm which parts of my patients records needed to be transferred, the staff still did not send everything that needed to be sent.
Great doctors, but you’re going to be in utter misery (bc of the front office staff) by time you get to see the doctors – so is it worth it?

I would wholeheartedly recommend this office — if it weren’t for the horrendous office. Firstly, the wait time is about an hour. Secondly, the staff there is horrible. I had put down my cellphone number for them to reach me to schedule a mri. They told me they would call me for a date. Well, they decided to call my home phone, which I don’t check often. I only found out because the hospital where I was supposed to get an mri called me to say that the office hadn’t sent in any of my insurance paperwork. By the time the office got their stuff together, three weeks passed.
When I finally got my mri — the hospital told me that they would email the results directly to the office the next day. So I call office to make an appointment to see Dr. Kim and the receptionist swears up and down that I was supposed to wait for the hospital to give me physical copies of the mri and bring it to the office myself. Obviously, this doesn’t make sense since it’s an mri image not just a test result. But she insisted that it was the case for all. I hang up and call in an hour and another receptionist picks up and has a whole shpiel about the receptionist I spoke to earlier and that she would check if they received the mri only if they would bring her up a computer already… At this point, I was dumbfounded and asked that she check it on another computer or something since I’ve been waiting weeks to get this all done — then she snaps and says computers are assigned to each receptionist and they can’t just use any old computer… What a nightmare. I work in an office myself so I can relate to a certain extent but this was so outrageous all around.
I finally saw the doctor after two weeks and again, after an hour’s wait time, I get shown into the room and a giggly receptionist starts laughing about how she heard that I had issues with getting the mri and so forth and how she apologized — but she was giggling and laughing the entire time. This was the last straw — my healthcare was compromised for a month because of these obnoxious errors and all she does is laugh and giggle? There is nothing humorous about my experience at all.
I just worry about the mess and delay that will inevitably ensue when I ask them to send my files to another doctor’s office.

I saw Dr Edward Adler for pain in my hip. I’m a dancer and had been unable to do simple moves that I used to be able to do, and the pain had been getting progressively worse over the course of several weeks, to the point of limping while walking.
Before I even saw the doctor, they took an x-​ray (the x-​tay tech was lovely, at least). Dr Adler glanced at it, asked me how long I’d been in pain, told me there was nothing wrong because he couldn’t see anything on the x-​ray, and suggested physical therapy. When I asked him what he thought was actually wrong — as in, what exactly would I be going to physical therapy for — he looked at the ceiling, thought for a moment, and said, «Uhhhhmmmmm… maybe tendonitis?» Wow. It sounded a lot like he was just guessing. «It’s definitely not your hip, so it must be the muscles surrounding it.» He told me I could get an MRI «if you want» but that my insurance probably wouldn’t cover it and that I should just get PT. It seemed as though he wasn’t interested in exploring why I was in pain; he was interested in getting me out of his office so that he could move on to the next patient.
From the way he answered when I aked what the diagnosis was, I felt very uncomfortable and went ahead with the MRI — which, by the way, most insurance DOES cover as long as you have a reason to get one. As it turns out, my diagnosis is a bit more severe than tendonitis: I have a torn ligament in my hip and may need surgery. (Remember when you said it’s «definitely» not my hip?) Even when calling me with the results, Dr Adler told me to «go ahead and keep exercising it, and it if hurts, get the surgery.» Gee, thanks, doc.
I am definitely getting a second opinion elsewhere, and I will not be going back to this practice.
