I joined the DC chapter and signed up for the monthly membership. After the first event I decided it wasn’t for me, I wasn’t a fan of the scene. I asked to cancel the membership, and it turns out I can’t, because I have to pay for the full year. So you might be asking, if I had to pay for the full year, why didn’t I get a yearly membership and save $ 50? The reason is because nowhere in their signup process did they mention this full year thing, so basically it is false advertising. You have to go to the FAQ and dig kind of deep to find out that little tid-​bit.
The club isn’t horrible, too fratty for my taste, but the fact that I can’t decide after a few events that it’s not for me without paying $ 300 is pretty annoying, especially given the lack of information. Hence the one star review.

They have moved to a location in Lower East Side. Often the events are held on the top levels of a building with spectacular views. The events have a great vibe. I feel the tension of my day drift off when I enter one of their events.
When they have a DJ they keep the volume low so you can easily talk. Interesting people. Skews young, lots of 20’s and 30’s.
Special events are great. This Labor Day Weekend I went to a huge party, courtesy of Magnises, at an estate in the South Fork, Long Island. 400+ people, quite a scene. Often events are creative. Some weeks ago they had an event in Manhattan where everyone got to drive a new Tesla.
Mostly I go to the events they have every week on Wednesday or Thursday evening. Sometimes I use their location as a place to hold business meetings or hunch over my laptop on a focused task, to get away from office.
I find it very worthwhile to be a member, and I think it’s a brilliant business model too.

I was nominated to join this «elite» group and they selected me to join a group that is basically like gilt groupe. You get access to deals and such but you have to pay for it. Sure you get access to their «townhouse» but whenever you go it feels like a fraternity that you don’t belong to yet. Very standoffish and soho house wannabe. I don’t use the metal card and they told me that it was time to PAY for a new one since it was too thick to use with a normal wallet or in a lot of swipe machines. I don’t know, seems like another venture capitalist social machines that will burn out soon. Hate to be cynical but they have done absolutely nothing to address the fact that I participate in nothing magnisis related.
Sorry to be a negative nancy on this one but I find it completely useless…
