Maid Cafe NY

i loved yhis place. i had the best tike, the best food, and the customer service was great. this shop was a dream come true. i really missed and love this shop.

This was a great place. The dancing and singing upstairs was awesome. It was the only place in all of NYC where you can get a truly authentic onigiri, proper flavors and proper portion hand rolled size. The green onion miso onigiri was simply the most authentic best onigiri in all of NYC. It was decidedly authentic, you can just ignore the comments of the reviewers below as they are probably chinese and eat onigiri at grocery stores, and have never been to Japan to know what a real onigiri should taste like.

that being said, I didn’t know what a maid café was when I walked in here, so I walked out completely delighted. matcha desserts in a café absolutely bleeding baby pink? sign me up! the café’s faults, like the fact that the plants in the covered garden area were all dying or dead, only made the experience funnier and more interesting. I’m strange in that way.
a real maid café, I later learned, involves the waitresses in frilly Lolita waiting on customers hand and foot. that’s just not New York’s style. the girls just stand at the counter, shout the occasional Japanese phrase I didn’t understand, and were quite helpful with questions. there are also kawaii little trinkets to buy if you’re into that.

When we first walked in they were rude by not saying anything and did not welcome us in. It was only 2 maids at the time and the café was empty. The food tasted as if it was microwaved. The whole experience just wasn’t what i was expecting it was a little dissapointing.

An actual maid café is awesome. That being said, i wish it was more like an actual maid café, because I’ve been here many times and it hasn’t come close yet.
They got rid of a lot of the cute maids that acted a bit. Honestly, it wouldn’t hurt to do acting training while training for the job. A huge part of the appeal of the maid café is acting. And cute girls in cute uniforms. But I’ve never seen them wear shoes other than sneakers, and that kind of kills it. I come for the cute costumes but they really fall flat (use a petti?).
The food is on the lower end of average. There’s a lot of better places in Chinatown for food. Most of the menu is rather bland, stick around the boba and ice cream for flavor.
The actual place could use some cleaning up because parts of the walls chip every now and then. It could be a lot cuter with a little effort.
All that being said, my boyfriend and I still like coming here and won’t spend a day in Chinatown without it. But a lot could be improved.

I came here wanting to try the maid café experience as I have seen in Akihabara.
However, to my disappointment, the two maids seemed bored and unattentive.
The décor and location is undesirable. I felt this should be in st marks area rather than Chinatown.
The desserts quality is mediocre.
I would not recommend this place.

After eating dinner in Chinatown we’ve stopped at Maid Café NY for dessert on our way back to the train. The entrance is nice, but it is more for the Japanese restaurant that is upstairs.
Walking in you are greeted by the staff that are dressed like maids, but nothing provocative here, like I’ve experienced at other maid cafes. There are a good number of tables, but there have also been some patrons who sit and camp on the tables just playing on their phones or etc.
Maid Café offers a variety of food options, from curries with rice to shaved ice desserts. I’ve only come here for desserts. I’ve gotten their mochi; which is just like any other frozen ice cream mochi that you can purchase at just about any Asian market, and their shaved ice dessert. Their shaved ice is OK, they don’t give very much for what they charge and it isn’t about quality either; so to be honest I am not sure what the price tag is really for.
Needless to say, this has become more of our «last resort» spot to grab dessert at when there is nothing else available.

This place is so cute! Randomly walked into it while walking in the area with my friend and got a green matcha tea. It was delicious and exactly what I needed. I didn’t try anything else but next time I’m in the city, I’ll make an effort to come back here!

Walked in on a Sunday afternoon… no maids, only two Japanese women behind the counter who were mostly pleasant (speaking in a high pitched voice doesn’t hide the fact that you’re tired and bored with work). My party got three different kinds of onigiri… The price was pretty low (under 3 $) but the filling was almost non existent.
If there were actual maids here I would rate higher, being that it is a Maid Café and all.

I enjoy the atmosphere more and the food as gotten better. I recommend the milk pudding. Don’t know what it is but its really good. Also they finally got better onigiri. (Similar to Yaya’s)

1.5 really.
I came with my girlfriend and we ordered the crêpe and a caramel macchiato. The crêpe was supposed to have strawberries but they didn’t have strawberries in stock, so that was a bummer. It was a tad undercooked and thick for her liking and it only consisted of banana extremely watery chocolate syrup and canned whip cream. Not great. Decoration wise, I wish they put in more effort to make it look cute, literally I got a penis drawing in whip cream. The expresso was okay, not wow. Service wise, it was really awkward the maids were all at a table chatting and laughing and no one would be at the register if there was no customer. They were louder than anyone else there, and our crêpe was ready and the maid who put down our order literally stared at it and said out loud, «whose crêpe is this» to her coworker wasn’t even there to take or see the order. We just sat there and waited.

–Expensive for being in china-​town + expensive because its the only «jap» maid café in nyc.
–You meet a lot of high school kids coming here
–Consist of a lot of desperate male seeking to hit on an asian with an asian fetish.
PS. If you want onigiri. YAYA’S in chinatown should be the place. Not this.
I give it a star only because i heard the owner is Japanese.

I felt sorry for the lone server there today. A group of 8 of us stopped in for teas, hot chocolates, and dessert. There was one server and she was overwhelmed. There was one other couple sitting in the café, and later on a young woman came in to open up the cosplay shop.
The server wasn’t wearing the complete get-​up, which was fine. We were there more for the bite (we had two kids with us) than for the maid aspect. I think that’s a bit cheesy, anyway, and wouldn’t have chosen this place. My one friend had been wanting to come here and I can’t figure out why.
We wasted the better part of an hour waiting for drinks. I ordered first: two hot chocolates and a machta latte. Next a couple of other members of our party went up and placed their orders. I got my latte pretty quickly, but we didn’t get the hot chocolates for another 45 minutes. I am not exaggerating. The young woman was flustered, she was trying to make things for the other couple who arrived right before we did, and she had a cop come in and order while we were there. Our party had: two parfaits, a bubble tea, a regular coffee, the stuff I ordered, and a couple of other hot drinks. That was it and it took that long.
I don’t see this place lasting. The bubble tea cafes and other cafes on the side streets were bustling. This place was empty save for us and that other couple.
On our way out we asked the server if it was always so understaffed, and she said that the other person should have been there but didn’t bother to show up. Ah well.

I believe myself to be a local of this establishment. I go daily as I live nearby and work downtown on wallstreet, so this is the equivalent to my local café — except less starbucks-​y. I don’t particularly care one way or another about the Maid outfits as I go for the tea and to work or study typically. I will try to break this down.
Good :
–The Bubble Tea, spot on for Chinatown. Not done by a machine, but by hand.
–The GyuDon (Beef Bowl) Slightly fatty at times, but a good bit of food for 8 $.
–The Matcha Tea. Quality, makes me happy enough and keeps me going.
— A few regular professionals are quite nice and quiet make good conversation occasionally. Interest thoughts on Japanese Culture, always nice to hear others thoughts and opinions in a casual environment.
Bad:
— Lately they do not follow their hours. This is consistent, the opening times are off usually anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour almost daily. Closing is usually early as well.
— The Curry. It’s definately a grocery store curry not homemade.
— Friendliness Varies. Depends on the Maid…
— Smelly People who play some sort of card game? (Yu Gi Oh? Magic?)) They need to have a deoderant offering.
–Cleanliness: The Bathroom is quite disgusting usually. There is a PVC pipe dropping from the ceiling over the sink… what does it do? It looks horrific. Toilet is never clean, expect to squat high. Also the front counter display fridge is dirty. clean it before you add food please! It’s why I get drinks not deserts from it.
— Allot of clients come and buy little to nothing. The Maids complain, I think they have a rule to prevent this now requiring purchase. Common to Chinatown. Too many freeloaders that are quite loud. Go to the arcade up on Mott St. Please if you want to argue politics of Dance Dance Revolution. The Café obviously has issues getting people to buy.
— The biggest negative of this café is that there are only two outlets. They loose potential business of people who would actually sit work and buy things by only having two spots to plug in.
Overall they are nice, good place to work nearby and have enough for me to be happy. The «maids» are nice enough and not weird like you would expect. Novelty is nice, but it could be a decent local spot if you live nearby. Unilocal on!

I hate giving one star reviews, but I have no choice.
I work close by and stopped in to pick up some rice balls (onigiri). They did not have anymore tuna salad onigiri, so I opted for the green onion miso onigiri. This was the worst onigiri I have eaten in NYC and it costs almost $ 3! The rice on the outside was hard and the seaweed was soggy. I basically couldn’t even eat it and threw it out.
Waste of money. I predict this place will go out of business soon. Even hot maids can’t distract from terrible food.

It is what it is. Haters gonna hate.
Expensive, none of the cutesy maid stuff. Tiny portions, pathetic chicken cutlet. The cutlet was more like half chicken strip from a fast food place cut up. The curry is also not great as well.
You order at the counter, so I’m not sure what the tip is for.
The ladies working there didn’t seem too friendly, but maybe it was because I was with my wife and her friend — this place was our first meal together as husband and wife after getting hitched at the courthouse!

A bunny café, a puppy café or a bacon café. I would probably want to visit any of those more than a maid café. I guess I don’t have too much interest in a theme café where the draw is to ogle asian girls in maid outfits. But the japanophile inside of me wanted to go and since starbucks was packed and we just wanted a respite from the cold weather and some tea we found ourselves at the maid café.
Surprisingly I did not spot any of the so-​called pervs that may frequent this place as posted on a social media site. Instead what I found was the people who hang out at this place are teenage gamers, 1337-​ists, amateur cosplayers, animé enthusiasts and those kids that like to go to sanrio stores. It kind of felt that way with the cutesy items for sale and on display as well as costumes you could bring home. The favorite that day seemed to be cat ear headbands with lace.
There were a lot of different snacks and food you could get here like brownies, ice cream, macarons and parfait and curry rice and rice balls. The bear face parfait looked interesting and one of the maids patiently described it to me. the rice balls did not look that appetizing or very big and a friend of mine did not like the crepes here. The ice cream reminds me of a kid sized scoop but the curry looked okay.
I did like the lupicia tea that I chose that day. Supposedly imported and made in Japan. I liked it enough to bring some tea bags home to drink. The tea I tried was called Sakurambo tea which is either a combo of sakura and mambo or sakura and Rambo. I like to think its Rambo like how the japanese have a fascination with american culture as we do with theirs. This was a black tea infused with japanese cherries. Dark and sweet which was very nice. And one of the maids even obliged with an extra squirt of honey to my tastes. I was told the green tea latte was passable and the coffee was just okay from the friends I was with.
The maids here are courteous but I wouldn’t say in your face overly courteous. I was actually looking for an outlet to charge my phone but they couldnt really find one for me to use. I was told that in Japan the maids at maid cafes usually engage the customers and sometimes play games with them. This didn’t happen but they were nice enough.
I wish this place played animé on a tv instead of blasting loud japanese pop music. The soft serve machine was not working because I may have bought some if it was. I also wish they had board games available to play unless they don’t want people to linger.
Overall come here for a lukewarm theme experience. I might come back just for more tea and if I just needed a place to hang out for awhile close to chinatown.

Went here yesterday with a group of friends. We wanted to check this café out since this is the only maid café in ny. I ordered a taro bubble tea and it was amazing! The little bubbles were perfect and the drink itself was amazing too! My fiancé ordered a vanilla milkshake with curry pan. I got to try out a little bit of his meal and I like the vanilla milkshake but not so much the curry pan. Maybe because I had better curry pan at other places. My other friends ordered beef bowl and other dishes and they liked it. But I feel they already have those meals premade because they were quick to bring out the orders. Other wise its still good they said.
Anyway, the décor was cute and very warm and welcoming. They sell cute products there too but pretty pricey. I like the way the chair and table feels it feels very earthy, maybe because the table looks like fake wood and chairs are green with tree looking design. The café workers are all dressed in maid outfits and I thought that was adorable!
I didn’t give them a five star because the pricing was pretty high for the limited food options. But overall it is a great hangout place with friends and the staffs are nice and friendly. Also spacing is pretty limited because it is not a big café.

This addition Japanese chain has arrived to Chinatown. There was a lot of excitement and brewhaha about Meido style kafe. We were excited to try it out. We thought it would be campy, funny and cutsie.
The reality is that the café is a haphazard mess of just tables and randomly accessories by which you can add to your cos play outfit for sale. Or the sad looking mess of the ‘toppings’ table for the ice cream etc. The rack in the back looks like a Filene’s basement for animé wardrobe. The once yogurt shop still has vestige of it where they didn’t even so cleverly try to hide it. The Love Notebook for those wishing to declare their love for the maids.
You also expect entering the shop to be flowery smell of bubble gum with J-​pop blaring. The reality is that you get hit by the overwhelming smell of curry and those poor under-​worked, under paid, understaffed maid tween girls trying to make adoring boys bubble drinks, crepes, and all sorts of dishes. I think the maids in the Upper East Side has it good. While certainly they are cheery when they deliver your food.
The bubble tea was well, bubble tea. The crêpe was alright. We had the crêpe with green tea ice cream and chocolate. We didn’t try any of the other dishes. It was a fun excursion if not to see the adoring young boys all dressed up to meet their favorite maids or photograph with them for a small cost of $ 5.
While the novelty is fun it is quickly brought down to reality. This is nowhere close to the experience of the other stores in other countries. This is a lethargic half hearted attempt sadly.
