Manhattan’s Physician Group

I only went for one visit here, but I had a pretty bad experience.
I came in for a routine physical. I made an appointment ahead of time, and when I got there I went to the registration section. I sat in a tiny office across from the registration person – it was awkward because despite being about a foot away from her, it literally took her about five minutes to acknowledge my presence! Then she told me that they don’t do physicals on the first visit. I said that I’d scheduled a physical ahead of time and nobody had told me that, and she made a couple calls and reluctantly said I could go ahead with the physical. OK…
So next I went up to sit in the waiting area. It was pretty depressing. Court TV was playing, and the woman next to me said her doctor was running over an hour late. I was called to see my doctor relatively quickly, so things seemed to be looking up! We ran through all the routine physical things and I left.
A couple weeks later, I got a letter in the mail. It said that my blood sugar test results were abnormal and that I needed to cut ALL sugar out of my diet and then see the doctor in one year. That’s right – apparently my abnormal test results were serious enough that I needed to go on a very strict diet for a year, but the doctor didn’t bother to call me, ask me to make an appointment so we could discuss the results… she didn’t even say something like «call me with any questions.» Nor did she even say exactly which test results were abnormal or what the levels were! And as if this weren’t unprofessional enough, these few sentences weren’t written in proper English, and the letter was formatted in a really wonky way, so that part of one sentence was at the top of the page and the second-​half was at the bottom of the page. It was as if it had been dictated to a second-​grader!
At this point, I was pretty disgusted so I asked for my test results, so that I could take them to another doctor and figure out what was going on. On the website they say they have an electronic records system you can sign up for, but when I asked the staff person I spoke with about it they said they weren’t aware of it. Instead, they made me order my medical records in order to see what the results were. For what it’s worth the records came quickly, and luckily my «abnormal test result» seems to be a fluke. Anyway, I won’t be going back!
