Excellent dentist on the UFT plan. Very honest and trustworthy.

I agree with those who like Orenshein — here’s my extremely long and detailed review I just posted to Angie’s List bc of my recent experience with him.

So I make an appt with a DDS who supposedly took my new ins, turns out they didn’t once I got to their office. Nice enough people so I said, hey — I’m here check out this tooth — they do and say I need a root canal. This is a red flag, since that’s one of the main complaints of the bad dentists I’ve read about: everything results in your needing a «deep cleaning» or a root canal. Shoes too tight? Root canal. Not getting enough sleep? Deep cleaning. Concerned about the situation in Syria? Deep cleaning and two root canals. So I take the x-​ray and head back to Orenshein for a 2^nd opinion.
He looks at it and in the defense of the root canal dentist (New Broadway Dental — who do seem like really sweet and genuine people) Orenshein says it looks like I COULD use a root canal, but that it’s definitely worth trying a filling. He does the filling a couple of weeks ago, only charged $ 150 instead of $ 1200 – 1500 for a root canal, and the tooth feels perfect. To top it off, he saw me that day — one of the recent blizzard days, when many patients didn’t make it in, in fact none of his staff had even arrived, so he was running the office and seeing patients on his own ’til his help arrived.
Here’s another thing that really set him apart in my mind: When I first started going to him, I had really great insurance from one employer, and that ins allowed a few thousand dollars for cosmetic work, which Orenshein does in addition to general dentistry. He looked at my 15 – 20 year old veneers and actually talked me out of redoing them. He said they’re in great shape, they won’t look much better, even with the vastly new technology available, and since they’re doing well, don’t change them. He turned down thousands he could’ve charged my insurance company. Meanwhile everyone I’m reading up on these days (I’ve read up on around 80 dentists, if you can believe it) are pushing the root canals and deep cleanings like used car salesmen.
I’ve saved the names of the 3 least terrible sounding dentists available through my new ACA (Obamacare) plan. I plan is to use Orenshein for anything reasonable, under a couple of hundred like a filling or maybe even cleanings, and then go to one of these three if I need a crown or root canal. It’ll only be about $ 100 for those procedures with my ins. If they mess it up terribly, I’ll run back crying like a little girl to Orenshein and pay cash through the nose to have him redo it. That’s the plan, and I think he’s worth it.
Finally, I first found his practice since I lived a few blocks away and was wary of just going to someone «because they were nearby» — but I’m really glad I stopped in that first time. I trust him implicitly.

Dr Orenshein has more patients than he can handle.
I called with an emergency (a quarter of a tooth broke off, exposing a very large filling) and I was told by the rude unhelpful receptionist that they could give me an appointment in 17 days.
Yes, SEVENTEEN days.
Bottomline: I need a new dentist.

Was new to NYC last year and needed a dentist. Was referred to Mark Orenshein by a friend. They accepted my insurance, were in my neighborhood (Chelsea) and taking new patients…
I’ve been REALLY pleased after 2 appointments. Basic dental office. What I like about them is they don’t try to sell you on things you don’t need, like my last 2 dentists did. They are clearly sensitive to people with dentist «issues», as the friend that referred me alway hated going to the dentist, but feels differently with Orenshein.
If you’re looking for a Dentist… give them a try…
