Specialties
Martin Brothers Wine and Spirits has become a fixture of the community and is recognized by many as the best wine shop in the area. Aside from a selection of wines as diverse as the customers who support us, and as knowledgeable a staff as any, there is another reason why Martin Brothers has been so cherished. The loyalty that Orlirio and Roberto Martin showed to the community was something that could not be competed with. That is why, upon their untimely passings in 2001 and 2003, their children have continued the stores success by giving back to the community the same way their fathers did, most currently through daughters, Carrie Martin (CFO) and Elizabeth Martin (CEO).
We offer free delivery in Manhattan. Specializing in high quality, esoteric wines from small producers. We also have the biggest single malt scotch selection in the Upper West Side!
History
Established in 1985.
For over 40 years the Martin Family has been servicing the residents and business of the Upper West Side. In 1970 brothers Orlirio and Roberto Martin, opened a specialty market dedicated to Latin cuisine called Las Antillas (referencing the Islands of the Caribbean), on the corner of 107th Street and Broadway. For the next 15 years, both the brothers and their business grew as they gained an understanding for the local area and the people in it. With their new found understanding of their clientele and the local area in which their business had grown they decided to take on a new venture and transform a successful specialty market to a Wine and Spirits retail store, aptly named Martin Brothers Wines and Spirits.
Meet the Business Owner
Elizabeth M.
Business Owner
Orlirio Martin’s daughter, single mother of three and primary caregiver to her mother, won numerous awards including Representative of the Year for Schering Pharmaceuticals utilizing her B.A.in Health Care Administration and Master’s Degree in Community Health Administration. However, things changed when Orlirio became ill and one of his last requests to his daughter was to keep Martin Brothers Wine growing strong. Elizabeth has put forth all her effort to maintain her father’s and uncle’s legacy. She has adapted to her new role and now works full time at the store which is currently as strong in its dedication to the community and its clientele as it’s ever been. She has educated herself in all aspects of the wine industry while personally expanding her knowledge of wine and spirits; her new found passion. A graduate of the International Wine Center and Sommolier Society of America, Elizabeth now looks to expand the business into directions that would make her family proud.
