Their truffles are to die for and reasonably priced. The sales lady isn’t pushy and always offer a scrumptious sample. If you’re looking for great chocolates, especially for a gift, try out Martine’s!

Absolutely fantastic chocolate, albeit definitely not inexpensive. The saleswoman who was working when I visited was very friendly and informative, and gave each of us a sample.

Martine’s is a perfect spot for customized chocolate. I wanted one of their handcrafted dogs for the top of my groom’s cake. I was able to bring a picture of my dog and they matched the colors. Their service was PERFECT, the price was great and I came away with the most adorable chocolate dog.

Martine’s Chocolates aren’t excessively sweet. There is a beautiful balance of the ingredients that will surely satisfy your chocolate craving. Their chocolates also come in a variety of cool shapes (horses, dogs, metro cards, cabs, Statue of Liberty, etc).

Handmade, decadent truffles. The ingredients are always fresh and the selection is wonderful. My favorite is the Palette truffle, which contains dark chocolate ganache and fresh whipped cream. I like looking at it and thinking, «HEY LITTLE ARTIST’S PALETTE I AM GOING TO EAT YOUR CUTE LITTLE FACE!!!»
They have lovely pink gift boxes for your truffles as well.

I’ve been on a chocolate hunt lately so my friend bought some chocolate for me from here. The first one I tried was the Oyster, which somewhat looks like a piece of turd. Although the appearance is not appealing, the chocolate itself was great. The taste was rich and the texture was creamy, smooth, and clean with a little bit of crunch. All the other pieces I tried after that had a consistent quality and was almost just as good as the first one. However, the only downfall is that it cost an arm and a leg for this chocolate so savor it whenever you can.

No other chocolate compares to this. Yes, they’re pricey. Yes, they’re worth it. My God are they worth it. Try the shell. Try the double heart of raspberry. Try the piano. Do not offer to split the piano with anyone. It is yours, and it is exquisite.

One of the perks of working across the street from Bloomingdales is that I have been gifted Martine’s Chocolate numerous times. I’ve never been to the actual store but after sampling a variety of their truffles and chocolates, I can honestly say that I have no desire to ever go to Martine’s, pick out my own variety, or even gift them to another person. Their products just don’t excite me.
The truffles are very small and the recipes are not potent enough to even say a little goes a long way. The alcoholic ones are friendlier as Cognac, Grand Marnier, and Champagne are always a nice bite and sit nicely on your tastebuds if you prefer to digest your chocolate by letting it melt slowly in your mouth. The ones rolled in hazelnuts, powdered sugar, or crystallized sugar mask the inner chocolate. All you will be able to taste is the outer layer and any hints of caramel or raspberry will be secondary. The straight forward dark and milk chocolate truffles are far from sinful. If you have one truffle, you will surely want another because you will not be satisfied. But once you’ve had more than one, you will discover that the truffles will forever be lacking.
The chocolates come in a variety of shapes from butterflies and hearts to pianos and brooch-​like cameos. The piano is the number one hit in my office. I personally like the pyramid. There is no cohesive theme or collection of chocolates. They are just categorized truffles, fresh creams, or assorted plain. The fillings are typically whipped cream, praline, hazelnut, caramel, coffee and chocolate ganache, butterscotch, etc. I enjoy the nutty ones and anything with the whipped creams. They are tastier and lighter. Overall, these are still not chocolates I crave and I love chocolate.
Martine’s is «high quality» aka just really expensive chocolate. It’s made fresh daily but really there is nothing that sets it apart from other brands. I enjoy Teuscher much more. Even Leonidas is much better. Martine’s is pretty plain in comparison to the designer and trendy chocolates such as Vosges, Richart, and MarieBelle. I understand that chilies, curry, or bacon flavored chocolate is not for everyone. Nor may others care for screen printed art on chocolate but at least those chocolates stand out. Even plain chocolate from other brands make a lasting impression. The chocolate at Teuscher, Leonidas, even Lindt is tastier, smoother, and richer. Maybe I just like chocolates from other regions more but I, personally, find Martine’s bland.

The best chocolates in the city, hands down. Yes, I love Jacques Torres. Yes, I love La Maison du Chocolat. Yes, I love Teuscher. Yes, I love Francois Payard. But Martine’s beats them all. I received these as a gift and was shocked by their smoothness and flavor. You won’t see unusual ingredients in these like sea salt and bacon. Martine’s chocolates are classic and elegant. The shapes are adorable and make a lovely presentation. If I were getting someone a gift or a treat for myself, I would get Martine’s.

Take your favorite chocolate ever and multiply it by 100. this stuff is like crack cocaine. The quality of the chocolate just surpasses any chocolate you have ever tasted (you think Godiva is good?! nah uh). You can’t help but savor the sugar that is just melting away so deliciously in your mouth.
But at those prices?! Definitely a rare luxury splurge. They have a rocky crystal looking chocolate that is their crème de la crème that cost over $ 4 and I PAID it, can you believe it? But oh, oh, oh, SO divine. I’m gushing. I’ll stop. Just try it on your birthday.

When, I worked for Bloomingdales, I use to buy one a la carte pièce of chocolat, every other day. Too bad My Employee discount did not incluse the chocolat shoppe.
I still remember the taste of the chocolate piano. When, I first started buying here, one piece was less than $ 2. The single pieces average about $ 2.59 now. It’s a cute shop, with many different pieces. Some of the pieces are instruments, some are shapes… All of them are cute.

I actually sat here for a few minutes, wondering if I should review my most favorite chocolate place in the world. After the visions of PMS-​stricken fashionistas shoving me out of the way subsided, I decided to do it.
I am the pickiest chocolate snob in the universe. The cocoa nibs at Max Brenner were not high-​quality enough to my liking. I frequently complain about the commercialization of chocolate in the U.S. and the superiority of European cocoa.
Listen closely. This is the best chocolate you will ever eat.
Maison du Chocolat. Jacques Torres. Debauve & Gallais. The lesser but still delicious Teuscher, Godiva. None of them hold a candle to Martine’s.
Miniature pianos filled with caramel. Fresh whipped cream with no preservatives hand-​pumped into dark chocolate shells. Coffee tinged cream inside beautiful hearts.
If you love fresh, high-​quality chocolate, this is your spot.

I like that they have different unusual shapes of chocolate (piano, butterfly, fruit), but they don’t look exquisit (the edges are crooked and scratchy looking surface) However the chocolates are very rich and smooth.
I wish the store looks more boutiqy and have better looking paper menu, they are currently using the pink one, the text are not clear and looks like a fax document which have been copied 100 times.

It’s amazing that there have been so few reviews of Martines! Their chocolates are as good as any I have ever had in Paris or Belgium (save the truffles at jean charles rochoux!). Actually, I should revise my previous statement. Their normal chocolates are delicious, but not magical. What really makes them special are their fresh cream chocolates, which melt in your mouth like a cloud. And yes, I have had clouds in my mouth, so I know exactly what that tastes like. Not all of their chocolates have fresh cream, so if you get a box, I would suggest filling it with as many of these as possible.
Oh, by the way, it’s freakishly expensive. Like, absurdly so. You better savor every millisecond of that tiny bite of cloud because it’s going to cost you. But on the upside, the packaging is really nice, and if you’re a truly selfless person, a small box from Martines makes a wonderful gift.

i haven’t been to the bloomingdales one — but i was waiting for a broker directly across the street from the one on 82^nd and 1^st. I believe it is called ‘Martine’s Chocolates too’ Anyways, the chocolate is fresh — there’s a little chocolate machine or something behind the counter that they must use to make some of their candies. Its a cute shop on a quiet street in the UES. I got 2 pieces of chocolate and they were good. (they were also expensive. almost 5 dollars for 2 pieces!) I wouldn’t make the trek up here to get some — perhaps i’m not a real chocolate candy connoisseur. b/​c hershey’s dark chocolate for 99 cents satisfies me equally as well as this fancy chocolate. nevertheless, its a cute small store reminiscent of olden times and nice for a fancy pick-​me-​up on random days.

Their second location, besides the one inside Bloomingdale’s, is a cute, small shop on the Upper East Side. The milk chocolate is scrumptious on its own and the dark chocolate covered orange peels are a real treat.
Service here was okay. For something so sweet and delightful, you’d hope the counter help would be too. Well… that’s why this place is getting 4 stars and not 5.

If you should see a respectably-​dressed woman in Bloomingdale’s licking chocolate off her fingers, that’s me. Martine’s makes fresh chocolate every day, right in front of your eyes, on the 6^th floor of Bloomies. Sometimes, when I know I daren’t, I’ll buy just one piece and walk away. And not walk back. Well, hardly ever.
