Terrible experience and fraud alert! Worked with Kevin Cooper at this brokerage. Kevin lied to my face and has cost me thousands of dollars and some serious stress. I leased an apartment from kevin/​Maz group 10 months ago. The apartment was in a condo building, and had «no chance of going up for sale»… Guess what, 3 months after moving in and fully furnishing the apartment they decided they wanted to sell. How convenient, the apartment is now fully staged and much easier to sell. Kevin was the broker in the rental and sale. I I checked in with him weekly during showings so I could prepare to find an apt, never got any information from him or the owner (Hernan Valdez — another awful person) So here I am recently given 30 days to vacate notice when I just spent thousands to move in and furnish my apt. Granted I should have made sure that the lease was amended to change the 30 day move out clause, but a verbal from the broker was all I needed, I’ll never make that mistake again. Don’t trust this brokerage or this broker. No wonder everybody doesn’t trust resi-​brokers.

I’ve never written a Unilocal review before, but this company left us so disappointed and so blind sighted that I felt I had to warn others. They are not what they seem.
You can’t trust them!
In short: If they approve your application and say you will sign a lease for a place, don’t believe them! Continue your search for another place, or better yet, don’t work with them at all because they could very well be showing that same place to other applicants without once telling you— and only letting you know several days later when they’ve signed a lease (for the place you were told you were getting) with someone else.
Maz group lacks the basic respect and courtesy that a real estate company should have when dealing with potential clients and applicants. A policy of honesty and keeping people well informed of where they ACTUALLY stand would serve them much better than the dishonest and shady way they decided to do things. They caught us completely by surprise, telling us on a day we were supposed to sign a lease, after a whole weekend had gone by when we’d been led to believe we were all good to go, that they signed a lease with someone else. Further, they claimed it was due to our move in date when their ad for the apartment and what they’d told us at the showing had been consistent with our move in date.
We were not only incredibly shocked, but had also just been robbed of 5 days when we could have been looking for another place, and instead found out so late in the game that we had to rush for a new place and settle on something much worse than what we could have found had they been honest with us about what was happening from the beginning.
Just when I was starting to give brokers the benefit of the doubt, this company completely validated the stereotype of NYC realty as a crooked and shady industry. Companies like these are what make apartment searching in NYC such a pain, and cause so many people (like us) so much added stress and misery.
I don’t recommend working with them, but if you do, don’t trust them and just cover your back because they definitely don’t have your best interests in mind!

My broker was Marc Williams, and he is simply the best!
I recently moved to New York, and he was enthusiastic and optimistic despite my budget limitations. We looked at a lot of places together; he never made me feel pressured to commit to anything that didn’t feel right. He was well-​informed and extremely responsive – both very important to a worrier like me. To top it off, Marc is a really nice person and I enjoyed being around him. In the end, I wound up in a lovely apartment in a wonderful location at a great price.
There’s no denying that looking for an apartment, especially in this city, is awful. This is the way to go if you want to keep your sanity and to be treated well.
