Established in 1997.

Midtown Comics opened it’s first store in 1997, and is now the industry’s leading retailer of comics, graphic novels and manga, with its online store as well as three landmark NYC locations in Times Square, Grand Central, and Downtown. Midtown boasts a huge alternative and independent comics selection as well, for those who prefer their reading with an edgier flair. The best online comic book subscription service is also found at Midtown’s online store, with no deposit and no commitment.

I’ve been to New York twice, and each time I visit, I stop by Midtown Comics. They have an impressive selection of comics. That’s why I end up spending quite a lot of time browsing around because there are so many comics that I would like to buy there. What I also like is that they have the latest single issue comics as well as full graphic novels. I know that this should be standard, but it hasn’t always been the case for me when I’ve been to comic book stores. I also like the action figures and other items (like mugs) that they have there. This is a really cool place.
The only reason why I’m not giving this place 5 stars is because it isn’t always easy to find the entrance and the stairwell is quite narrow. This is just a minor issue though as it’s a great place overall. I’ll definitely be visiting this store again the next time I’m in the area. :).

Midtown Comics is a dream come true for the real and not so real comic expert. Wow I was blown away with all the genre of animation and figurines. One can easily spend hours browsing and not see everything in the store. If you really really like comics this is a must visit.

I’ve been subscribed to Midtown’s & Marvel’s various comics for over 4 consecutive years now. Their customer service has always treated me well.
1) Their comics WILL arrive with broken spines. It’s to be expected (you’re getting a cheaper price). But if pages are torn or ripped just contact their customer service and they will send you another.
2) Sometimes comics get lost in shipping. It’s the mail carriers fault. Marvel & Midtown will send you another one if you tell customer service.
3) Their response rate is pretty quick. Re-​shipment of bad/​damaged issues takes awhile but if you’re okay to wait then their online subscription service is fit for you. You really do save like 50% overall because if there is a Giant sized issue that costs $ 10, they will send it to you if it’s part of the 12 comic subscription arc (example, my Spiderman #1 after 2015 reboot costs more than $ 4)

Midtown Comics is the most comprehensive store of its kind that I’ve explored, in terms of its breadth of products. It holds comic books, back issues, action figures, and even apparel– that’s an impressive variety of products to choose from across two floors.
There are many staff workers walking around the shelves, so I was able to ask questions quickly. My customer service experience wasn’t terrible, but it could’ve been better: I asked if their store carried Boxers and Saints by Gene Luen Yang, an Asian-​American comic book artist (who also became the National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature), but the staff worker mentioned they didn’t have it, and then left the conversation at that without telling me the store could order it, or recommending other places where I might be able to find that.
One plus, though, is that I discovered several books featuring the Peanuts comic strip from the mid-​20th century, and I felt surprised at how different Charlie Brown and his friends looked in the 1950s compared to how they look in the Peanuts Movie and in recent comics. I liked exploring a new aspect of a comic strip I’m familiar with.
Midtown Comics struck me as a more conventional comic book store, since they didn’t seem to have a lot of independently published comic books or zines like other smaller comic bookstores I’ve been to. I think this is fine, but something to be aware of to keep your expectations (of its product inventory) level headed.

There are no words to express the awesomeness of this store. No matter how many times I say «Meh, I am just going to look because I can find whatever I want cheaper on amazon.» I always end up buying something. There comic selection is huge. They do have clothes and action figures on the second floor but I am there solely for the comics. I adore this place, they need a store like this in long island. Its perfect.

Midtown Comics is really daunting — it is literally about six or seven floors, and it is such an oddity crammed into a very corporate area of midtown that I used to just pass by it for years without ever really bothering to check it out.
This is a really cool place to visit with a dorky (but cute) boyfriend or friend. I actually love coming to these places with my boyfriend or guy friends, and geeking out over the science fiction books, movie figurines and posters, comic books, and just genuinely cool shit.
I’m unfortunately not into comic books, but they did have a decent selection of sci-​fi books when I went. I am not huge into the sci-​fi genre, but it was cool to be able to have something to peruse. Also, I loved checking out their massive collection of cool collectible movie figurines and interesting stuff.
Cool place to check out if you are in the area and into this sort of thing.

Oh my goodness, I was on the way to Times Sqaure, saw this place, couldn’t help myself to get in to have a look. My frist impression, this place was huge. compared with the comic shops i have been so far. The place could be easy to miss though. It took me about 1 – 2 mins to find the entrance, the shop located at the second floor of the builnd, it got not really obvious stairway between the shops on the street. luckily, they did got a huge ad board, that was kinda hard to miss.
Inside the shop was just cool, they offered so many different kind of comics, even Mangas could be found here. From the well knowing Marvels to some independent writers/​comic artists, they got them all. The upper floor got some comics as well, but the floor mainly was for the collectors, action figures, toys, Gundam, bags and so on, great place to pick up some great gifts or souvenirs. It was just lots of them. The colletion of each comics, games or animé shows were quite completed, but it is quite pricey as well. Well, for some speical one could be worth it. The cashier desk is near the entrance, there offered some keychain and gotcha figures as well, some of them were really cute. What a cool shop, I really like it.

This shop is in the 2nd floor of a busy cross junction across club quarters hotel. I’m not sure if its easily noticeable but if you do, and love marvel, pay em a visit. Good variety of figurines and comics. Had to refrain myself from buying more toys! Haha!

It’s nice big store and they have a lot of stuff from comics to clothes and collectibles but it’s really expensive also. Like 10 times more expensive. But if you have the resources, it’s a cool store to come to.

This is purely for their mail order business.
I ordered 2 items as part of their Black Friday sale. That was 13 days ago, and I finally received confirmation that they are shipping. Except, 1 of the 2 items I had is no longer available, so I’m not getting that one. Apparently their website isn’t connected to their inventory since they allowed me to order something that doesn’t exist.
So, if you don’t care about when you receive your items, or if they actually have it in stock, order away. Otherwise, keep looking at other options.

East Elmhurst, NY
I’m not a fan of comics, but L is… They have tons of comics, collectibles, shirts, etc… I don’t know how much comics normally cost, I assume since its in midtown, they’re bound to be pricier, but the only items that really interested L were the collectibles. Im pretty sure they’re all cheaper elsewhere… Online.
Anyway, I found a Bowser plush that looked a bit dirty/​dusty, $ 10 more than the Nintendo Store. Priced higher and it looked kinda old…
They have racks of mostly men’s tshirts on the second floor, but they’re pretty thin/​lil scratchy for around $ 18.99+. The selection could’ve been a lot better, there was nothing that either of us would wear.
I guess if you’re a hardcore fan of the store and want to help them out, you don’t mind spending extra for certain items. There’s obviously a better selection online, especially for tshirts and I’d rather pay a lil more for better quality.

The geek place to go to when visiting NY city ! So many comics, so many goodies, and real good staff to help you out. Plus they have like 3 diff stores !
You can order online and get an in-​store pick up which is pretty handy when you live/​visit near by.

This was definitely a really cool and big (!) comic books store. The employees were helpful and friendly.
My one issue with the store is that there didn’t seem to be a lot of merch for women. There was only a little rack of shirts for women (versus the eight or so racks for men) and almost all of the shirts were DC bombshells (not that I have an issue with the bombshells, it just would have been nice to see female supers in regular costumes as well). Even the «Women of Marvel» calendar that they sold was very male gaze-​y and definitely not made for the ladies. It would have been nice to see some unsexualized female merch.

During a day trip to the city, my husband and I had some free time and were dying to check this place out. It was SO worth it!
It’s a real squeeze to get up the stairs-​not sure there is another way in, but if you have a wheelchair, stroller, or anything like that, you probably need to find the magic elevator that I don’t believe exists.
Once you get near the top of the staircase, the wafting smell of fresh comics beckons you in! The sheer size of this place blew me away, and they have pretty much anything you can imagine as far as comics go. Everything is neat, organized and the store itself is clean as anything. Staff was busy helping customers on both the sales floor and the register which I thought was great– in NJ, you don’t really see service like this at a lot of the stores.
There are toys, collectables and rare items that are up for grabs and just great to look at let alone buy. THEN, there is another floor that has practically every POP! Vinyl that you could conjure up in your mind.
You literally would not have to ask me twice to go back here. The place is great and a total icon in the city. GO!

Midtown Comics is more of a tourist attraction stop than an actual store for me.
I don’t think I’ve ever? bought anything there. Everything is just too expensive. The comics are all full price, plus the terrible NYC tax on top of that. They do have plenty of comics to look at on the first floor, which is really the 2nd floor. You have to really hike up a narrow stair well to get up here.
They have lots of comics, but they don’t really have a huge selection of trades. It’s pretty much limited to the current stuff. They don’t really have any older trades, or a sale section or clearance or bargain bin or anything like that.
The top floor is all the action figures and statues. The action figures are crazy overpriced, especially the older stuff. They have plenty of giant statues in the middle though. I think these are sort of neat to look at, but I can’t imagine ever buying one and lugging it back on the train or through the streets of NYC. They are clearly catering to a wealthier client than myself. That’s fine, I’ll stick to my LCS and ebay/​amazon.

Una comiquería hermosa a 3 cuadras de Times Square. Si bien en Manhattan hay otras más interesantes o menos «masivas», Midtown Comics es un clásico, y esta sucursal está muy bien.
Obvio que además de cómics tiene un montón de mercha y juguetitos varios, algo de ropa, y arte copado (y caro).
Mi cosa favorita es que cierra a la medianoche. Si vas a tomar algo y vas para Times Sq. a tomarte el subte, es ideal para pasar cuando casi no hay nadie.

Ahhh Midtown comics, my happy place.
I can’t imagine there being any better comics shop in the area. Yea NYC puts space at a premium, but this place is still 2 stories of geeky goodness, and the high demand from the large population is what really allows this place to rank waaaaay above all the crappy lil comic shops you’d find in any suburb.
Even the staff is super friendly, helpful, and everyone seems genuinely happy to work there. Makes me jealous every time I go during my lunch break.
I go here every week, sometimes more than once, and I don’t have any complaints except the dumb tourists getting in my way. But that’s what you get in Times Square, and trust me it could be soooo much worse. Also they only do creator signings/​events at the Downtown location, but I’m guessing that’s due to the tourist population in Times Square. Although George Lucas did stop by this location, unannounced, to browse when the Star Wars comics debuted.
PRO TIP: They have a GREAT rewards program! It’s what really gained that fifth star in my rating. For every $ 100 you spend on comics (only comics though, not TPB’s or bags/​boards or toys) you get $ 20 off! That’s like 5 free comics for every 20 you buy!

The store is huge and has a large variety of books and merchandise. It is spacious and very well organized. My boyfriend was the one who wanted to check this place out, focusing on the figures. He spent an hour just walking around and looking at their figures. They also have some cool, large posters hanging around. My boyfriend wanted to buy some things but he found out that their selection online is larger and they ship for free over $ 75.
The staff is very friendly. They all came by and asked if I needed any help. They dot hover over you and do help when you need it. The guy at the front desk also made some small talk with us and was very polite.

Midtown Comics es un lugar realmente glorioso. Son dos pisos llenos de magia para los amantes de los cómics, libros, juguetes, accesorios, remeras y todo tipo de merchandising sobre superhéroes, películas, series, dibujos animados y demás bellezas relacionadas al universo de la cultura pop.
El lugar está realmente copado, con bocha de action figures y Funkos por doquier como una excelente selección de cómics, ya sean clásicos, las últimas ediciones, como también ejemplares especiales que solo se consiguen en el local. Posta que está realmente bueno ir e investigar que cosas se puedan encontrar en este negocio, un gran consejo es que investiguen, revuelvan y se fijen bien entro todo lo que hay porque suelen tener muchas ofertas y algunas cosas a precios insólitos.
En fin, Midtown Comics es de esos lugares que si visitas New York vas a ir más de una vez, ya sea a esta como a las otras dos muy lindas sucursales que tiene esta genial cadena.

Comic book, graphic novel, and manga fans, rejoice! The comic haven had two floors of goodies and merch waiting for you to discover. When Lapin and I visited on a Monday afternoon after work, it was quite packed. The staff was nice in assisting with any questions and the store is clean and very organized. The store can be a bit expensive and have random one of items. Lapin found a dented Deadpool wall clock in a corner (Yes, literally in a corner shelf!) that he wanted but it was for $ 65. We tried looking for another one to no avail.

What can I say? It’s a Times Square Institution and with good reason. They’re comic selection is fantastic, plus they have shirts, toys, and lots and lots of collectibles. The staff was friendly and helpful, even recommending how I could get an issue of Tomb Raider #4 that they did not have.
Everything is well organized, and easy to find, with lots of manga and graphic novels. I coveted the leather-​bound SandMan collection, but it was out of my price range. But how cool is it that they even carry that sort of thing? I rarely see that outside of Amazon.
Even if you only sort-​of like comics, you should definitely go. And if you are a fan, you will love this place!

Fantastic comic book store with two levels of nerdy goodness! On the first level, they have a wide assortment of comic books, graphic novels, manga, and small trinkets near the cash register (trading cards, dice, mugs, etc.) and, upstairs, they have a great selection of figurines, CDs, t-​shirts, collectible single issues of comics, etc. It’s your quintessential comic book store and you could easily lose yourself among the shelves and shelves of geektacular goodies! (My bf’s only complaint was that they didn’t have an expensive collection of legacy/​vintage mtg cards, lol.)
Merchandise: 4⁄5 — Wide selection of Western comic books and graphic novels, though I wish they had more Japanese animation art books (their Ghibli art book section was only 5 books deep, 4 of which were for Nausicaa), manga, and other non-​Western geekery
Atmosphere: 5⁄5 — Spacious, industrial
Prices: 4⁄5 — Obviously marked up, but not bad
Service: N/​A — I didn’t end up buying anything and there weren’t sales associates on the floor bothering people so I wouldn’t know

Ein toller Laden mit unzähligen Comics jeglicher Art, Mangas, Zeitschriften zum Thema, Sammelfiguren, Brettspielen (z. Bsp. Spiderman-​Monopoly, …), Decken (Pacman, Cookie Monster, …), Tassen und allem erdenklichem Schnick Schnack rund um Comic Helden, Cartoonfiguren, kultigen Filmfiguren (Scarface, …) etc. Dazu freundliche Mitarbeiter die kompetent beraten. Ich fand es so toll das ich vor Ort beschlossen habe auch Comics zu sammeln und gleich mit dem Einkauf losgelegt habe ;-)

Dieser Comicshop in der Nähe des Times Square ist das Paradies für eine Comicsammlerin, wie mich! Der Ein– und Ausgang ist etwas abenteuerlich (enge, steile Treppe), aber davon lässt sich ein echter Comicfan nicht abschrecken. :-)
Hier gibt es auf zwei Etagen einfach alles, was das Sammlerherz begehrt: Comics, Mangas, Figuren, Fachmagazine, die ganze Palette. Das Personal ist freundlich und hilfsbereit und die Einkäufe haben mir immer sehr viel Spaß gemacht, vor allem weil ich hier auch das ein oder andere gefunden habe, was ich so in Deutschland nicht bekommen hätte.
In New York gibt es zwei weitere Filialen von Midtown Comics. Wer Comics mag und an einem dieser Geschäfte vorbei kommt, sollte unbedingt hinen gehen.

On y trouve tout du plus recent au plus ancien… et meme quelques conseils des vendeurs qui ont l’air d’etre des passionnes !
En plus ils ont quelques goodies qui vont bien avec ce genre de boutique… j’ai failli repatir avec un phazer Star Trek — mais bon j’ai resiste :)
