Mike’s Auto

Again, with the now 13 year old car … but Mike and the guys did it again — two days before Christmas, no less — and gave me the Christmas miracle price!
So while I’d love it if my American-​made car was hassle free, at least Mike’s Auto eases the pain.
It’s best to make an appointment for an inspection because it is a small shop and they get very busy.

Friendly, fast, fairly-​priced service. Such a rarity as far as Manhattan auto repair facilities go. Thanks for the help!

Wow, in addition to my previous update with their absolute disaster of a botched diagnosis, these guys apparently parked my car on the street so I got a parking ticket, and then destroyed it before I picked up my car. I moved and just got a final notice in the mail from the city right before it went to collections. $ 125.
Never use these guys!!!
EDIT on 10÷29÷15: Response to Mike’s comment below calling me a liar: I took my car here once, back in April 2015, and that’s when I got the ticket. I didn’t post about it until recently because I didn’t know; these guys threw the ticket away so I never knew about it, and then I moved out of state and didn’t get any notice from the city until right before it went to collections.
Also, Mike never tried to call me, or at least he never left any kind of message. I love that he thinks that I should call random phone numbers that don’t leave a message back.

Note that the address is right in front of Mike’s shop, and the date was when I had my car there back in April. I wouldn’t be that upset about the ticket; these things happen in NYC, but the fact that they clearly destroyed it to hide the evidence (almost getting me sent to collections) and then Mike has attacked me and called me a liar here is way over the line.

Every time weed need to get something done these guys are quick, nice, and go out of their way in customer service– the price is always right too– Goood to have breakfast on the highline while you wait for a quick repair!

just got my car inspected there. they do great work and FAST!

My experience here was mixed, however the management does show integrity in trying to rectify whatever issues may come up. Very few places can say that.

Best experience possible.
The AC was broken in my car so I took it to Mikes Auto to get repaired. About 5 min after I left the car, I got a call from the manager saying that I can come back.
It seems that the place I previously had the car serviced (in Brooklyn) had disconnected the AC in an attempt to get me to come back for further repairs.
Mike’s mechanic simply reconnected the AC and didn’t charge me a thing.
The whole affair took less than 10 min.
This is def going to be my mechanic of choice in the future!

Overpriced and sloppy.
Did I need actually need a new battery? Don’t know. He quoted $ 167 for a 2-​yr battery. What? Advance Auto Parts had
same battery, $ 116. I finally paid $ 110.
Wow! Mike matched that price. hmmmm.
Next– nicked roof fabric with razor when putting inspection sticker on windshield.

Offered free oil change as compensation. But the damage is permanent.

I went there today thinking we had a leak in the gas tank. He showed me the under side of the car on the lift, said it would be too expensive to try to fix cos of the rusted frame, he could even break it if he tried tho get to the gas tanks; could charge me up to $ 3,000 to try to fix but it wasn’t worth it for a car worth only $ 500. Patel, the manager had given me a water bottle, and ‘cos I said I saw the consultation free onYelp, he charged me nothing. So refreshing to meet honest repair people! Would recommend it to all my friends & family & strangers!

Our car was about to break down in the tunnel. We barely made it to Mike’s, but I’m really glad we did. They were able to quickly fix the problem, and took extra care that we would not have any problems on our drive home!
Great service… a rarity in that industry.

Good experience with Mike’s today. Needed a simple inspection, called up and they were able to do it the same afternoon. I was in and out in 45 minutes. Shout out to Mario. Will be back next time I need something done on my car.

Excellent. First start by saying that I am a mechanic myself. So when I was about an hour outside of New York City late at night and the front wheel bearing went out of my Suburban, I was prepared to pay a high New York repair bill. I found this place on Unilocal and thought I would try them out. I called and they took it in first thing in the morning. They fixed it right away and the bill was only $ 350. I was very happy and surprised. Tony and his guys were great!

I have no idea what Mike’s garage other Unilocalers went to, but this Mike’s is a disaster. There is no where to pull up your car and check-​in. No one seems to work there. When I finally found someone to acknowledge that this was Mike’s garage I was informed to check in around the corner. I pulled around the corner walked in and some guy said there is a line and I would have to wait a half an hour because there were three people ahead of me. Given the faulty start I doubted my car would be serviced in under an hour and just left to another station a few blocks north which inspected my car in less than 10 min. There are so many options for getting your car inspected why bother with Mike’s.

These guys are every bit as good as the Unilocal reviews suggest. I brought in my 2001 Audi S4, knowing there was some work that needed to be done. They did it, and my car passed inspection and drives very well now. I was informed throughout the process and given best case and worst case scenarios and they were very honest in all of their dealings with me.

I was extremely suspicious about the high salutin’ Unilocal reviews. I was wondering… how did they pay people to write these? But what other choice did I have? I live in the city, my car was broken down and the Triple A certified mechanics sounded like a sleazy shop and had an average of one star.
I was pleasantly surprised by the excellent experience I had here. The Unilocal hype is real. I’m real. This review is real. No bribes I promise! They even helped me get the car out of the grips of the Triple A certified tow truck place that was insisting on fixing it and pretending they’d never heard of Mike’s after being instructed three times on the Mike’s plan! Evan from Mike’s called me the second the car arrived too. The Triple A place never bothered.
I have a Porsche so I don’t want just anybody working on my car. However, I would rather not pay twice as much at the dealership to have my car fixed. Mike’s was the perfect place for me.
They had it fixed on time, allowed me to keep the car there until my schedule worked out for me to pick it up, and they were respectful and explained everything. I had such friendly service and all the guys in the shop were so nice. As a single woman sometimes I feel that car mechanics will tend to take advantage of me. This is nothing like what I experienced at Mike’s.
They didn’t try to make me buy stuff I didn’t come in for and instead of telling me I needed a brake job immediately they told me how much longer to go to keep the price reasonable. I’m so grateful for these guys!
I am already making an appointment for my next service with them. What a relief! I found a friendly and reliable place in Manhattan, Yay! Who knew?

The motor to my convertible stopped working, and Audi Manhattan quoted me $ 3500 to fix. I paid $ 2100 at Mike’s. Enough said? I’ve been told Audis are among the most complicated cars to fix, but these guys were able address the motor and the trunk latch pretty quickly, within the same day of receiving the parts.
These guys are great. We interacted with both Mike and Evans, and they were unfailingly professional, feel passionately about cars, and are ethical to their customers. It’s a rare combination to have these days, let alone New York! I’m happy to have found them!

Wonderful, honest people. I had just gotten a state inspection at another shop and was told that I needed to get my rear brakes replaced. The guy quoted me $ 450 and asked for a deposit (which I stupidly paid). I wasn’t sure about the price or details, so I called Mike’s Auto to get a quote. Evans told me I should bring my car in to make sure that I actually needed service and that they usually price better than other places.
Evans not only matched the price of the other shop, he deducted the deposit. I dropped my car off Friday morning and it was ready to go in the afternoon. All in all, it was a great experience. Mike’s Auto can add another loyal customer to their list.

My car broke down in the city and went in to emergency mode. Found this place on Unilocal and dropped the car off 8 am when they opened, they fixed it, paid a fair price and left. Seemed like they lived up to the Unilocal hype.
Recently, I find out that while the car was in the shop it got a ticket «for parking on the sidewalk». I never knew and was never told of the ticket when i picked up the car. Nor was there a ticket on the windshield. When I dropped off the car I drove it into the garage, someone must have moved it on to the sidewalk.
Update: Evans at the shop paid for the ticket and apologized for the whole issue. I am glad they are honest to pay for anything that happens to my car while at their shop. For a moment I was concerned I would have to pay for the ticket.

«Great experience» … it seems those words rarely describe taking your car to a car mechanic, but in this case it does.
They took a look at my car after it started smoking from the engine earlier in the day. Instead of trying to upsell after doing a free diagnostic, Mike recommended I get a cheap replacement piece from the dealership.
I wouldn’t hesitate going back there, especially since the Highline park is now extended and there is an access staircase literally across the street. Hope they can stay there as the area inevitably changes with the Hudson Yards Development…

Waste of time:
I called on Sunday morning to bring in my car because of a noisy belt.
The person on the phone said that they are busy right now but that I could
bring the car at 7pm today so they can start working on it Monday morning.
I asked if he is sure someone will be there to receive the car at 7pm — he said yes.
Instead of going with a different car shop that would have taken my car Sunday morning, I chose Mike’s Auto because of the reviews.
Unfortunately, NOBODY was there at 7pm. The shop was shut down and the gate closed. I knocked and called multiple times.
Bottom line: wasted an opportunity to have my car fixed on Sunday somewhere else and wasted time and gas driving to their shop and back home.
