By far the best place to fix, clean, restore and to buy mac products. I’ve been there twice after having a huge struggle with my MacBook Pro and boot camp and Arvin has always done a perfect, clean and impeccable job. I will say that he is the best one there because he is patience and really nice!

I went to Mike’s Tech Shop to upgrade my macbook pro mid 2012 and it was a great experience. The people are really nice and very knowledgeable. I upgraded both the ram and the hard drive and Rubin did an excellent job. I now rarely get the spinning beach ball and everything works great. They say to allow 7 – 10 business days for service, but mine was done super quickly and I had it the next day! I would definitely come back if I need more service as my macbook is out of warranty. I recommend these guys to everyone I know.

This place is AWESOME! Better than the Apple Store! My daughters laptop recently crashed unexpectedly. We were out of warranty and didn’t know where to turn. Luckily someone from her office recommended Mikes Tech Shop. Arvyn was a lifesaver. He managed to save all the data from her hard drive and successfully transferred it onto the new machine. A smooth process from beginning to the end. Outstanding Customer service all around. What a lifesaver! If you have any problems Arvyn is your go to guy! Simply the Best!

«It’s a Christmas miracle!» Last week, I took my Macbook Air with me along with an SSD drive to switch out and my T5 & P5 tools to do the job myself. Like some cheesy sitcom, running across the street, the tools fell out and rolled into the street and down the gutter! I went everywhere trying to find a P5 screwdriver… Home Depot, Tekserve, Lowes, Radio Shack… no one had one — the only tool to open up the back! I could have ordered one online but I needed to post the computer that day. Another improbable but fortunate thing: a nice guy at Techserve told me (under his breath) that I should go to Mike’s Tech Shop and see if they could help. I went over and explained my situation. After some back room discussion and an overheard, «Come on, have a heart…» the clerk came back out and said he would do it for me. For free! He did it and 5 minutes later it was done. He said, «Merry Christmas…» and I said, «It’s a Christmas miracle!!» Cheers guys! You’ve got yourself a loyal customer and advocate forever!

These guys are SAINTS. You are a hard-​core sadist if you choose to go to an Apple store instead of Mike’s.

I just had one of the best customer service experiences of my Apple-​life at Mikes Tech Shop. Brent is the guy you’re looking for if you need help working through a dying harddrive, data recovery, iPad screen troubles, and basically anything else Apple related. There might be more well known tech shops around, but none of them stack up compared to Mike’s. Thanks again guys, you really saved the day.

I can’t say enough good things about this place. You don’t need an appointment, and can just walk in with your computer. Check in only takes about 15 minutes, and then you can leave your computer there unlike some places where you have to wait. Most important, they seem to really understand how incredibly stressful this is for people. They are very nice and reassuring without making promises they can’t
isn’t cheap, because the service is never are, but it is certainly competitive.

Came in for a quick fix — the track pad wasn’t as reactive as before. Arvin was professional, honest, patient, and a straight shooter. He ran some tests and inspections to figure out the track pad’s screw needed some re-​adjustment. He also recommended to change the battery within 3 – 6 months time frame, but did not pressure to purchase a new battery. I was in-​and-​out of the door within half-​an-​hour! Highly recommend and will return for all future repairs!

I had a great data recovery experience here. My daughter’s 2 ½ year old MacBook Air was suddenly unable to boot, it would shut itself down every time. A couple of trips to the Apple Store and we had determined that the rest of the machine was fine but the drive (SSD!) had I/​O errors, couldn’t be read in target disk mode, couldn’t even be mounted by another machine when I put it in an external sled. My daughter and I weren’t, ahem, as careful as we should have been with backups, so precious photos and more look like they may be gone forever.
It takes a bit of a leap of faith to entrust that job to someone, and also to do it for an hourly rate, where you’re not really sure how much it will cost in the end. And also if the name of the place reminds you of «Joe’s Bank», not super trust-​inspiring. But I’m glad I did. They were able to recover my user directory in what looked like a very tough situation. And, although data recovery at this level is not cheap, I’m sure it ended up costing less than it would have at the two other places I researched.
Jessica was my contact at the desk and my data recovery expert. She was great, the kind of person who knows what she’s doing with the confidence to not have to bowl you over with how much she knows — the perfect vibe for a fairly high stress situation.

Went in after filling out the form online for a broken display, which was my own fault. The online reviews seemed to indicate the prices are cheaper than the apple store. I was the only person in the store, and was seen right away. I have had many a negative experience at Apple waiting for ages. However I got a quote of $ 575 (not sure if it included tax) to replace the glass, whereas Apple had quoted me $ 435 to replace the entire display.
I would probably go back if I had an issue not related to accidental damage, but otherwise I’ll stick with Apple.

I brought my laptop to MTS on Unilocal’s recommendation. It’s times like these I wish I could rate Unilocal poorly, but what can you do.
I explained the problem (shutting down suddenly during start-​up) while MTS staff ran diagnostics. There must have been some severe miscommunication, because when they returned my repaired computer later that day it had exactly the same problem – even though the receipt said it had been «successfully booted» twenty times.
I was charged $ 190: the hard drive cable they installed was $ 29, fine, but there was also an astronomical $ 150 flat fee for labor.
The next day I tried again at Tekserve, and left 3 hours later with a working computer (total cost: $ 160; $ 75 hard drive and $ 75 for labor). Tekserve even removed the tape MTS had accidentally left on my new hard drive cable.
I give MTS two stars because they didn’t argue over the refund, and because no one takes one-​star reviews seriously.

Mike’s tech shop is the perfect place to come to for quick, friendly service. Avoid the horror that is NYC Apple stores!

I went in there this afternoon with an assortment of Apple gadgets and a laundry list of problems, which they solved almost instantly. This is not the first time I wanted to weep with gratitude after a visit there. There are knowledgeable grown-​ups behind the counter, they are fast, and they charge less than the Apple Store or Tekserve. I’ve never felt like they steered me wrong or tried to soak me. Also they are a totally cute little mom & pop shop — a dying breed that should be supported in NYC.

Fantastic and friendly service! I took my MACBOOK Pro in at the end of last month, just to get my Hard Drive changed. For the record, Apple would not do it, but these guys would! I got it back, and things were just fantastic! They even got rid of the scanning software from Brother that I’ve been trying to get rid of for years. Great service and a great team!

WOW. I went to Mike’s Tech after I bought a new Apple and the Apple Genius’s could not perform a data transfer. Mike’s was able to run analytics and retrieve most of my data and make the transfer. They kept me up to date each day on the progress and what was happening. They clearly explained the problems and options. And guess what? Their professionalism, knowledge and real sympathy calmed me down. They
also provided a lot of info as to the choices I could make moving forward for backing up my data to avoid the problem again. Thank you Mike’s Tech. They were all so great… & Jessica especially!

This place is great! My early 2009 iMac got sick over the holidays and I was dreading being told I needed a new computer. I brought it in — Jesus upgraded the RAM (8 gigs for under $ 140 including labor) and worked hard to solve my problem. While the end solution was creating a new user account and it may not work long-​term, this was good enough for me.
Sincere and honest staff who really care about their work. Next time I’m due for a new Mac, I will be buying from this place instead of Apple directly.
Even if I can get another year out of this system, that will be good enough for me. Sadly, no one can fix Apple’s terrible job on the Yosemite OS. :-)

I definitely owe the good folks at Mike’s the strongest possible recommendation I can give.
What they performed on my MacBook Pro can only be described as necromancy (Macromancy?), because they truly brought it back from the dead, and did so for an incredibly reasonable price, with superb customer service all the way through.
Macs are expensive machines, and if you take care of one and upgrade it when necessary, you can easily get 6, 7, even 8 or more years of useful life out of them. My MBP was top-​of-​the-​line when I bought it four years ago, and thanks to additional RAM and a SSD upgrade, replacing it with a new model of comparable performance would have cost me at least $ 3000. But even Apple’s (Genius Bar) repair of over $ 1200 would be stretching my budget to the limit and beyond, so I was desperate to find another option.
Fortunately for me, Mike’s was open on Sunday, so I took it there. They set me up with a rental/“loaner” for $ 99, and kept me posted on my computer’s status in the queue with daily emails. Though one of the associates was — well, not bad, but tended to seem pretty disinterested — the techs were absolutely wonderful in explaining the work they were doing, and the manager was beyond accommodating.
In fact, I was incredibly fortunate that a manager was on hand when I was making my decision following the grim diagnosis of a water-​damaged logic board. They had JUST gotten a new ultrasonic cleaner that they were hoping would give them a new option to try for customers with water damage, before having to go to a logic board replacement or tier four service (the second most, and most, expensive possible repairs). How would I feel about being one of their first guinea pigs once the cleaning solution came in and it was set up? At worst, it wouldn’t work and they wouldn’t charge me, so I took a chance on it.
To my eternal gratefulness, it WORKED. I cannot overstate how pleased I am that Mike’s was willing to work so hard to find an option that worked for me, even if the option was a procedure so new they hadn’t even put it in their system yet! After getting the computer running again, it still needed a new top case, which they took care of quickly, getting the part in the day after they ordered it.
I know more than a little bit about servicing Macs, having done all sorts of basic to moderately complex repairs and replacements for family and friends. I know how much parts cost, and I know how much shops from Tekserv down to L2 charge for repairs. The value in terms of the work done and the parts replaced by Mike’s was EXCELLENT. For not much more than last-​ditch repair shops that only warranty their work for a month, Mike’s did incredibly difficult, computer-​saving work with a serious, Apple-​certified warranty on it.
They did not push me to spend money on anything I didn’t want, try to get me to buy something new, and were very honest at every step of the way about what the possible outcomes and options were. Even though my rental ran well over the week I paid for, they did not charge me for any additional time. I’m not sure what else I can say to explain just how accommodating, skilled, and reasonably priced Mike’s was. The techs were fantastic, and again, my thanks to the manager who kept me from wasting money or going to a non-​certified, short-​warranty, used-​parts shop (which might also be a big waste!) by letting me know about another option they were just about to introduce.
Definitely my new top recommendation for Mac repair in NYC! Thanks again! I have been over the moon since getting my beautiful machine back!

I’ve gone to a bunch of different places for help with my apple products (including — gulp — the apple store), and this place is by far the best! There are no appointments, but each time I have gone in, I have been helped immediately.
All of the people working there are very knowledgeable, willing to explain everything to you, and do not push services on you. Many of the people working there have previously worked for apple, know the ins and outs of how to get the best deal with them, and know what is necessary to buy and what is a ripoff. While I have spent a great deal there over the years, I always leave feeling like I got some great inside tips, understood all of my options, and got the best deal possible.
Last, but not least, they are very accommodating, and genuinely want you to walk out with a working computer. Here’s to not spending the whole day just to get screwed over at the genius bar!

Had been going all around the city, including the apple store, to get a battery replaced for my work cpu. Everyone told me it was 3 to 5 days — Came in and told Dan my situation.
Said it would be about 1 to 4 hours. Dan said to let him see what he could do to expedite the process.
Done in an hour.
Awesome service, cleaned the computer too!

My go-​to computer shop! Fast, friendly, and affordable! Plus their store manager is a pup named Ziggy — adorable!
