Millinery Centre Synagogue 10018

I just went to an event, a «mixer» fundraiser there. The ad copy contained the following: «Come Join other Young Jewish Professionals Ages 21 – 49, Live Music…, sumptuous Buffet…»
First of all, there were virtually no YJPs there to meet! Heck, almost nobody I saw was even young, and surely many were over the age of 49! Despite the valiant efforts made by the very nice gentleman with the bizarre-​o keyboard and mouth-​made sound effects act, and the accompanying singer (who wasn’t bad), the vibe was dull and lifeless.
Seriously? When I got inside and saw the tiny crowd there, the looks on many of their faces, I figured let me just wait for the food, since I came all the way out here, then I’ll go. Sumptuous buffet? Ha! That’s a bait and switch if I ever saw one: first, it was pretzels, and dried out cinnamon bun pieces (or some type of fruity-​topped buns), small pieces of Entenmann’s-type store bought chocolate cake, apple juice, cranberry juice cocktail and apparently warm seltzer (it sprayed everywhere when opened.) Then the buffet came an hour later: cold falafel, Caesar salad with confetti-​sized croutons, pasta salad, and a crudite platter with some orange-​colored dressing. Really? I left hungry! There were no trash cans, only plastic grocery bags taped to the buffet tables.
As for the «event space» (the sanctuary), there wasn’t enough heat, as almost everyone kept their coats on. The ladies room smelled like a truck stop, in the dungeon-​of-​doom-​like basement, which itself reeked of mildew and was strewn with tons of debris everywhere and the paint and drywall down there had been clearly peeling for many years. There was a surprise speaker, some animated guy who got up and proceeded to equate poor people to bums!
They need to fix the place up, or at the very least, clean the place up and make it safe and stop taking people’s money for outside causes or to just to keep the place open! What an ordeal! Before trying to raise money for some outside cause, they should first raise money to get the place up to codes, and make it less scary, b/​c it looks like it was a dump 15 years ago! They wanted people to pay for this experience?
I’ll never do this again.
