Mira Sushi & Izakaya

This place has the best sushi in the area. Staff are incredibly nice. We order from here at least one weekly. Must try the Miso Over You roll and geisha roll. I think safe to say hands down the best sushi in the Chelsea area.

I came here for the first time and I absolutely loved everything about this place. From the ambience to décor. Everything was just so classy and cozy at the same time. Service and food was great aswell. I will be back for sure!

I was walking around the neighborhood with a colleague, looking for a spot to grab lunch, when we stumbled upon Mira. It was packed — clearly a hot spot for lunch — and had a great menu with lots of variety like bao, chirashi, sashimi, sushi, noodles. It’s a casual spot, but the ambience is a step up from the sushi places that have no personality on the inside. We ate at the bar and it was comfy and the service was super fast and attentive. I ordered the chirashi with a variety of sashimi and brown rice. So yummy!!! Highly recommend if you want sushi that’s original, creative, delicious and reasonably priced in a relaxing atmosphere. I’ll be back!

Came here because we wanted to try the beef bulgogi tacos that beat Bobby Flay. They were pretty good, probably the best thing we got on the menu. Overall the food was pretty good. Would give four stars for the food, just thought the restaurant overall was too loud. The tables are really close together so it may be difficult to hear your date if it’s a busy night at the restaurant. Otherwise, it would be a nice romantic place to take a date.

Ate here for dinner in a group, maybe it was an off night or just a very strange experience but our waitress tried to charge us for extra ginger at a sushi restaurant… yes we were told «we charge extra for ginger because our ginger is really expensive»
The ginger tasted the same as any ginger I have had in my life and never told it would be an extra charge… Note to management — purchase «less expensive» ginger.

Nice place for sushi and sashimi… the fish could be a little bit bigger…
They offer lobster ramen for April special, but ran out of it in the very early evening, which is kind of disappointing… other than that, everything looks good.

Mira has a great menu and ambience. I end up going here once a week, some of the people I go with love it –others would give it a three star review.

Appetizers are a must for this place! Definitely try to the bulgogi beef tacos because everything is perfect about it. The sushi pizza was really good too!
We had ordered some sushi rolls has our entrée but it wasn’t that good as their apps so since my boyfriend and I were still hungry we just ordered a bunch of apps and shared.
Ugh I’m getting hungry again thinking about this place!

My favorite dish at this restaurant is the Beef Bulgogi Tacos, which Beat Bobby Flay Winning Dish. This is the only thing I remember from eating here. I recommend ordering one order per person. Each order comes with 3, but you are going to want to eat all 3.

After watching the episode of Beat Bobby Flay that featured the beef bulgogi tacos that won on the show, I immediately added this place to my lists since it’s actually on the east coast! It’s been a year later and I finally get to see what this place has got.
We were one of the first ones in the restaurant and pleased with the lunch deals (which amounted to about $ 10 – 20 for lunch depending on what you order. It’s New York, so the pricier side was expected). We were disappointed that the deal advertised on their menu online (add $ 5.50 to your lunch combo for 2 beef bulgogi tacos) is no longer a thing as of Monday 12/​28/​2015 according to the waitress we had. She said they hadn’t taken the deal off the chalkboard yet but considering we went on a Wednesday, least they could’ve done is either erased it or not display it at all.
Though the deal was gone the tacos were something I’ve waited a year to try. So I went with the new price of $ 13 for 3 tacos to order it for the table ($ 4.37 per taco), and then order lunch combos with it. Amongst my group of four we ended up getting rice bowls and noodle bowls. I got myself the grass fed beef sirloin bulgogi bowl ($ 13 at lunch time).
For service, I do have to agree with those who wrote that service during lunch can be a hit or miss. We were the first or second group in the restaurant when we came in at noon but it took about 45 min to an hour to serve our main items. (Miso soup and salads came out quick, but everything else was a wait). After about 12:30 the place starts getting more busy.
If it weren’t for how delicious the food was, I would’ve given only 2 – 3 stars based on service. But the beef bulgogi tacos were right on the money. With such a unique way of presenting tacos, no wonder it was a winner on Food Network. In addition, the grass fed beef bulgogi sirloin rice bowl was perfect. Egg when broken melted right into the rice and other veggies, meat soft and savory, and it was pretty healthy considering the number of veggies put into the bowl. Forgot to do the brown rice option that they offered for $ 1 but it didn’t make a difference to me since it tasted so great. The kitchen was also very accommodating to my food restrictions so I had absolutely no worries while eating my meal.
Overall it was a great experience at Mira Sushi & Izakaya. I wish the service were a little better but the food was so good that it was enough to upgrade it a 4-​star review instead of a 3. Hopefully will be back again some day!

I’ve been here before, food is always on point, however, today was not what I have ever experienced in a restaurant.
Lack of customer service to the point were it pained me to tip! I asked for a refill of my soda, which never happened. Not once did the sever or anyone stop by to ask if we needed anything. I felt as if once the restaurant was full customer service went out the window. Poor and very disappointing. I will not return during any busy time. I suggest that you think twice about going during lunch to dine in. The best option is to order to go.
Food is good, however, service is lacking. They can do better.

I’ve gone to Mira a few times now and I’ve had different experiences each time. The overall conclusion I can come to is that it’s pretty inconsistent. The first time I went I remember it being just ok. At the time I worked in the area and went for lunch. Just ordered rolls that time, but I do recall them not being anything special. When I went back the second time I ordered spicy tuna crispy rice. Anyone that knows me, knows that I’m a crispy rice expert. It’s one of my favorite foods and I have it quite often. When ordering at Mira I remember it being decent and pretty good. I decided the other day I wanted crispy rice and went back to Mira. Unfortunately, the crispy rice wasn’t like I had remembered. It was actually quite soggy and really nothing great at all. I was pretty disappointed. After my few experiences here, I probably wouldn’t go back anytime soon.

I am surprised more people aren’t rating this restaurant higher. I live fairly nearby and just noticed Mira recently. I came in on a busy Friday night, sat at the bar and had a GREAT meal. I’m excited about this restaurant because it is not a run of the mill sushi place. The Izakaya aspects of the menu are most easily described as Japanese tapas, and so many of them are great! I didn’t get to try them all, but I did try many and all were amazingly good.
It seems there are many Japanese fusion places all over these days trying to come up with new menu items. Mira does a great job of offering a huge array of creative original items that are delicious, authentically Japanese and never over the top. I had the spicy salmon crostini and it was great. If you like salmon skin hand rolls you will love this. Other standouts include the Kobe Beef hot stone and the Bulgogi Tacos. The tacos are really a wonderful balance of savory and sweet, beefy tender and crisp, hot and cold. It is quite amazing in many regards. I highly recommend you try this.
The spider roll was crispy and delicious, but maybe not too much different than other premium executions at places like Japonica or Nobu. The yellowtail Jalepeño sashimi was another of the no as original but still very delicious dishes. Mira’s version is close to the Nobu original, minus cilantro (which some may welcome) and leaning more toward the sweet, less citrusy end of the ponzu sauce spectrum. It was great.
I also tried some of the aburi sushi items, which were delicious but not as kissed by the flame thrower as other aburi I’ve had which surprised me a little. They seemed more like normal sushi, which was fine, still very good in all regards.
My very first visit to Mira was about as enjoyable as a restaurant experience can be. Food was great, draft Asahi was great, atmosphere was great. The bar manager Rafael is a very nice guy and quite clearly a uniquely skilled mixologist with lots of inside knowledge of Tokyo nightlife culture. If you like sushi and are looking for someplace that’s original, delicious and not filling rolls with cream cheese or drowning things in eel sauce, you need to try Mira.

I’ll be truthfully, any sushi place that proudly advertise they serve ‘gluten’ free sushi already has my brows up and skeptical. You can ask any famous sushi chef that it is really all about the rice.
It boast a modern take which in food lingo means ‘Asian’ fusion for the hipsters and I think ‘Izakaya’ is being liberally used now days.
I would say if anything this is less Japanese and more Korean with as they say ‘approachable’ means naming food so that it doesn’t scare the non-​Asians and something they can pronounce like Po’boys, rice bowl and tacos.
Sure the Beef Bulgogi taco that beat Bobby Flay claim to fame was pretty good. Was it better than Gorrilla truck hmmm…
The Pork buns was slight on the sweeter side snuggled into a light puffy white cloud like bun.
The Berkshire mince pork rice bowl or otherwise know in unapproachable term bibimbap. I know not a very friendly word I know was decent. It was certainly approachable than the ones you can get in K-​town. Hmmm…
The Jap Chae Noodle probably more approachable name should have been Sweet potato noodles was a bit underseasoned but otherwise decent.
Mira has the loud vibe of the neighborhood on a quiet street.

I’m always down for sushi and with so many Japanese restaurants in NYC, it’s hard to pick! Mira is my new go-​to spot for unique sushi rolls. We arrived before 6PM and it was nice and empty. This place fills up quick. We ordered the beef bulgogi tacos, spicy tuna pizza, volcano roll and crispy rice roll. I highly recommend getting the spicy tuna pizza. The entire combo of that pizza has so much flavor and great texture. The beef bulgogi tacos were just okay. I was expecting the beef to be more juicy and flavorful. The volcano roll was DELICIOUS! I loved the combination and fried crunch. The crispy rice roll wasn’t bad. It was good at first bite then you start getting tired from constant chewing, mass amount of rice and harder texture.

Not too impressed. The coco verde cocktail was amazing. The atmosphere and happy hour deals were a bust. Can definitely find well cocktails for ½ price elsewhere.

Came here for a client lunch. I assume a lot of the bad reviews are due to delivery (they seem to do a lot), but I had a fine time. My coworker chose the place through Zagat (not Unilocal,which is weird, right?).
They reserved a big round booth in the back for us, and it was pretty comfortable seating for 5 people.
For my sushi, I went with two specialty rolls — the Dynamite Roll (blue crab, avocado, scallops) and the Mardi Gras Roll (spicy tuna). The two together came out to about $ 31, which isn’t cheap. But I liked both a lot. I liked the Dynamite better.
Also had their green tea with rice. What’s nice is they give you a mini teapot to pour yourself. I’ve had better tea brewed with rice, though.
The décor of the place is also cool, pretty modern looking. Kabuki and koi paintings on the wall, and fake cherry blossoms.
Not much more to say, really.

Dropped in around 9 on Tuesday night and this place was packed to the gills. Us 2 skinny ladies squeezed into high stools at the bar where we were greeted with warm smiles and quick service. After coming from yoga, we were looking for light yet filling. The geisha roll (cucumber wrapped tuna, salmon, avocado and crabstick), crispy shrimp roll (cucumber, avocado, caviar, yuzu mayo) and a classic salmon and avocado roll came to just $ 15 each including tip. WOW! This hit the spot in so many ways.
Bravo, Mira. We’ll be seeing you again soon!

4 stars for ambience, 3.5 stars for food
A group of 4 friends and I came here on a Friday night. I had made a reservation for 7:30, doubting i would need it, but it was actually really crowded and I’m glad I did!
The atmosphere is great — lots of room at the tables, dim lighting, and a modern/​trendy feel. The only downside is that it gets very loud. It was hard to have a conversation with my friends without shouting and constant leaning in to hear what they were saying.
The food was good, but prices are steep for what you get. They had a decent selection of special rolls. Quite a few which had fruit or fruit sauce on them, which is not my thing. Three of us ended up sharing the Dynamite Roll, the Miso Over You Roll, and the Crystal Roll. My favorites were definitely the last two, both of which had miso yuzu sauce, which was delicious. On average each roll cost $ 15, which I feel is on the more expensive side when it comes to special rolls. I also got an uni sashimi for $ 5, interestingly wrapped in cucumber instead of seaweed, which I really enjoyed. Our last friend got the chicken teriyaki bowl. It did look yummy, almost like a version of bibimbap. There was a fried egg on top, and comes with a side of hot sauce.
I think that the priciness of the food can be justified by the fun atmosphere of the restaurant. I wish I tried more of the fusion food that the chef is known for, like the tuna pizza or the beef bulgogi tacos. Overall, I think this is a place is a great choice to catch up with a group of friends. It’s conveniently located and is a good alternative to the more upscale restaurants that populate the Flatiron district.

I wanted to try something new in the area near my office. So I brought my work peeps to lunch with me. It has a nice atmosphere, nicely decorated, casual, but chic.
Menu isn’t your typical Japanese, it offers several asian fusion dishes. I was in a mood for some rice bowl so I got myself a Bulgogi Rice Bowl and combo it with California roll. It was a good deal for lunch special.
However, rice bowl DIDN’T really deliver that ‘oh my god, it’s so good’. It was pretty bland so I had to ask for some sort of sauce to give it a flavor. and. I know Sriracha will fix this dish so I proceeded to ask for it.
Other people in my group ordered rolls. I tried a bite of spicy tuna roll, it was not bad. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meal. I might return to Mira again and try other things on the menu.
