Mokbar is an award-​winning ramen shop in Chelsea Market that combines traditional Korean soups with fresh Japanese ramen noodles for a unique noodle experience. As NYC’s first and only Korean Ramen Bar, Mokbar offers an extensive selection of brothy and saucy ramen, using all-​natural, authentic Korean ingredients, and no MSG.

Offerings include Classic Pork Ramen, Kimchi Ramen, Bulgogi Ramen, Chicken Ramen, and Vegan Miso Ramen. A diverse selection of small plates inspired by Korean street foods are also available such as Dumplings, Ho Cakes, Kochi Sticks (rice cakes), Bulgogi Sliders, Tteobokki (spicy rice cakes), and Kimchi Disco Fries.

Business Owner

Mokbar’s Owner and Executive Chef Esther Choi is a young and passionate Korean-​American creating a unique style of Modern Korean Soul Food. At her 20-​seater eatery at Chelsea Market, she combines the highest quality Korean ingredients with craft Japanese ramen from Sun Noodles as a way to deliver authentic Korean flavors.

While growing up in Southern New Jersey, Chef Esther developed a passion for making kimchi from her grandmother. After graduating from the Institute of Culinary Education (ICE), Chef Esther spent time in the kitchens of ilili and La Esquina, and the Food Network.

As a Korean food ambassador, Chef Esther seeks to spread her love of Korean food and culture to the masses. She has given talks at The Korea Society and Time Inc’s Asian Food Entrepreneurs Panel. At the age of only twenty-​nine, Chef Esther has been featured as a «Rising Star Chef» by Food Republic, «Women Chefs to Watch» by AM New York, and hailed as a «30 Under 30 Culinary Rock Star» by Zagat.
