Murphy’s Tavern

You want a pub, here it is. Have a beer at the bar, didn’t imbibe but doesn’t look expensive. The food isn’t the quality you’d get in Ireland by any stretch, but all in one lunch sitting you hear four pearl jam songs, red hot chili peppers, and stone temple pilots… things are ok.

Literally stopped by for one drink. Was a bit disappointed that there was no pong upstairs

Less sketchy, more busy and less financebro-​y (although maybe i just got lucky) than White Horse Tavern. Beer selection is a bit nicer too and a $ 5 happy hour that runs until 8. Great place.

I walked in at 4pm on humpday– I was waiting for an old friend who was bringing her kids to meet me, so I didn’t want to wait for her where I couldn’t quickly jet out of upon her arrival.
Drinks are cheap, so that’s a sweet find in the neighborhood but I’m never coming back after my last experience. My second time was a couple weeks later — it was perfect bc my plans had changed and I decided to go meet someone who works right around the corner.
It has nothing to do with their service, but I was appalled to find that some of the patrons here were blatantly racist. It’s almost 2016, and hearing someone calling me a banana and making pretentious remarks, e.g., that the white person sitting in front of me was making a huge mistake with an inferior Asian was literally one of the most shocking and disappointing experiences. It’s happened before, but it’s not a common occurrence, especially not in NYC — the melting pot of the country. The 2 star is still well deserved. Service is fine, but once it gets crowded, no one came to the table and I was dancing my way to get anyone’s attention for my next drink.
Anyway, the bathroom isn’t all that clean and the toilet is completely deformed — the seat’s coming off about 9 inches. The food smelt weird, as did the rest of the restaurant. A strange musk was omnipresent both times I’ve frequented this ancient bar.
Definitely needs a face lift. There’s an ATM near the entrance, and if you’re game for cheap drinks with a «eff the atmosphere, I’m not on a date!» kind of humpday, this is the perfect spot for you. Needless to say, I won’t be back.

Went here during a spontaneous night trip to the city. It wasn’t very crowded on a Saturday night but there were just enough people to make it feel comfortable. We sat at the bar and ordered drinks and some food. The bar tender from Ireland was very friendly and efficient. We started off with the mozzarella sticks which came out very fresh and tasted great. For our dinners I got the cheeseburger and my girlfriend got the popcorn shrimp. I forgot to tell the bartender how I wanted my burger so it came out on the well-​done side when I usually have it rare (still has a pulse rare), so given that I still thought it was a really good burger! The fries were fresh and looked like they were homemade and not just the stuff you take from the freezer. My girlfriend enjoyed her shrimp and stole some of my fries which she also thought were very good. Overall this was a really nice little place that seems pretty cozy and low key even though it’s so close to Wall Street and all that. We went here originally cause it’s right when you get off the ferry and we were starving but I’m glad we came across this place I would definitely recommend anyone there for drinks and a bite to eat at reasonable prices!

Murphy’s feels like one of those throwback gritty downtown bars. There’s no glitz, no glamour, no sign of Wall Street execs — just your everyday average Joe’s looking for a drink and looking for a quiet time at the bar. I’ve only been here once after work with some co-​workers on a weekday at 5pm and it was relatively quiet inside with a few patrons. The tavern was pretty spacious and we sat in the back.
There was nothing extraordinary about this tavern, but they did have an extensive happy hour menu, which consisted of many beers and cocktails. We ended up ordering some food, wings and calamari, from the menu as well. The wings were good and everyone at our table loved them, but the calamari was not edible to most of my coworkers. It was basically like chewing a rubberband, so skip that dish at happy hour.
Other than those observations, the waitress was attentive and there were quite a few TVs inside for anyone just looking to relax and catch up on the day in sports.

was a low key bar with semi cheap drinks so i was a fan! the bartenders seemed to be semi intoxicated though which wasn’t bad but just noted. don’t come here with high expectations, only a need to get intoxicated with a friend and having good conversations without yelling over any music

We went there mainly after seeing the good reviews, but we were disappointed.
The staff was definitely friendly, however the service was lacking.
We ordered burgers medium cooked. They came out well done, dry and with no juice whatsoever. Overall it was expensive for sub-​par quality food.

Fantabulous happy hour deals and delicious $ 2 sliders such as chicken, beef, and turkey.
Amazing selection of music from rock, country, and R&B…
They have two floors, usually the top floor is open to the customers for bingo nights or private events!
Friendly staff and a great environment to either have a drink by yourself if you work in the area or waiting on friends. Definitely sit at the bar and spark up a conversation with one of the friendliest bartenders in NYC or watch a game of your choice on one of their many big screens.
I’ve came here on a few dates considering the environment is trustworthy as well as the food and services is beyond satisfying.
You won’t leave this place disappointed!

This place is the best bar I’ve been to in NYC. Good prices, great atmosphere and amazing bartenders — Barry is incredible!

Been here a few times. It s a classic Irish pub. Place is a bit down but I will emphasize again, «classic Irish pub». The staff was really great. They were extremely friendly and quite attentive. As soon as my drink was about done they would always be right back around to make sure I didn’t need something else.
I would most certainly return. Also they have tv’s around the whole place and karaōke upstairs, fortunately I was never pulled into doing that.

Came here to meet up with an old friend for lunch and a few beers. Servers were really nice and helpful and gave me tips on what to check out in the city. Food was fresh and delicious! Beers nice and cold, got the Brooklyn Oktoberfest. Overall a great place, I would definitely come again.

Beers nice and cold. First time having a Ruben and it was scrumptious. They offer you half fries and half onion rings. As far as beers go, nice selection; IPA’S, pale ales, darks, and the not so beers/​Budweiser blah blah. Bartenders have personality and had good service.

OK… it’s 1145pm. I thought everything was open in NYC. Room service shut down at 10. A five minute walk searching for an advertised pizza joint (that never materialized) and I stumble on Murphy’s.
Thank God.
Music was at ear bleed level but the food and service were superb. Huge burger cooked to order and a split of fries and killer onion rings. To do onion rings right (and impress this Southern boy) is a mission well accomplished.
Deaf but well fed at a reasonable price. If you’re in the Wall St. Area of Manhattan drop in. Impressive list of other entrée specials along with burger and finger food. And a top notch bar.

Great brews and Shepard’s pie! The wings are great but have a major kick to them! :) make sure you grab a French onion soup!
Side note: the raspberry cider is amazing!

I would recommend this place for lunch or casual dinner. This had a good neighborhood pub feel, felt authentic New York. I had a garden salad, very fresh and good portion as a side. Had the raspberry vinaigrette dressing. I had a turkey club. Very fresh! My wife had a chicken teriyaki wrap which was also great! Service was fast. Good selection of craft beers if your in to that. We tried it based on other Unilocal reviews and well with a name like Murphy’s we just had to try and glad we did!

Haven’t tried the food here, so can’t comment.
Excellent location close to Staten Island Ferry and in the FIDi. Drinks are priced very reasonably ($ 6 for most beers) here considering the fact that this is in FiDi. The bar tenders are friendly and attentive. The beer menu isn’t extensive but you should be able to find a decent mass-​produced beer on draught.

Every neighborhood should have a bar like Murphy’s Tavern — it’s the kind of place where you drop in after work to grab a beer or a scotch while munching on some hot buffalo wings while airing your grievances with your coworkers, about your other coworkers of course. It’s an uncorrupted old school watering hole to meet up with your best friends to brag about your latest dating conquest, or more likely, to lament being dumped yet again by your latest girlfriend for one of Wall Street’s ‘Flash Boys.’ Oh the pain. Drink up.
Murphy’s is welcoming and comfortable where the drinks and food are served without pretense. The bartenders are not mixologists and you won’t have to wait 10 minutes for your cocktail or shell out $ 19 for a bourbon on the rocks; no square ice cubes up in here. The food is typical bar fare with decent chicken wings (they’re ginormous, freakishly so), a decent burger, typical onion rings and A-​OK fries.
You can find Murphy’s on a somewhat lonely and slightly isolated stretch of Stone St. between Broad and Broadway next to the Doubletree Hotel. This block of Stone is cut off, and mercifully worlds apart, from the more well-​known, historically protected, cobblestone surfaced, and patio table strewn Stone St., you know, the popular Stone St. where you’ll find that Greek-​life can be pitifully prolonged beyond UVA and Syracuse and celebrated well into one’s 20s, 30s and 40s. Oh the pain. Drink up.

Great drinks. Can be crowded on friday nights after work but the pricing make the wait worth it. The bartenders are friendly and they sometimes do buy backs on shots with large crowds.
I have not tried the food menu yet but i look forward to try it next time i am in the neighborhood.
Definately going back!
If décor is your thing, you better go somewhere else.

A solid pub with good prices for NYC. For the area, it’s the most «down to Earth» pub around. It’s divey, but comfortable.
The bartender was friendly and quickly filled my drinks when necessary. They have a steady clientele that spans the societal spectrum from the rough-​and-​rugged to polished business people.
It’s location next to the DoubleTree on Stone Street makes it the perfect stop for anyone that is staying nearby that wants a casual place to have a cocktail after business or a night cap.
