I rely on Unilocal all the time, and thus am very reluctant to post a negative review given the potential impact to the owner and employees, but I need to share the my story of theft by of one of the employees at Murray Cleaners. Last week, I decided to use Murray Cleaner’s for the first time. A few minutes after dropping off my clothes, I was trying to enter the subway at Chambers Street station and immediately realized I forgot to take out my EasyPay Express Metrocard in one of the pairs of dress pants that I wore the previous day and dropped off at Murray Cleaners. In case you’re not familiar, Easypay Express is a Metrocard that is linked to your credit card and automatically refills below a certain level. So it wasn’t a big deal when the pants were dropped off at my apartment a few days later without my Easypay Express is a Metrocard. However, when I went logged into my online account to report my card lost and request a replacement, I noticed that someone had been using my Easypay Metrocard starting in the evening after I dropped off my pants at Murray Cleaner’s. On my MTA account, I can see the exact time and stations where each card is used. The pattern speaks for itself: –The first swipe was at the Chambers Street station, the closest to Murray Cleaners –The following morning, it was swiped at Penn Station, 36 minutes before Murray Cleaners opens –The following morning, it was swiped at Chambers Street station, 5 minutes before Murray Cleaners closed –The same exact pattern occurred yesterday –No swipes on Sunday, when Murray Cleaners was closed! Is this usage pattern a coincidence? Either the owner or one of the employees at Murray Cleaner’s is dishonest and a thief. I prefer to do business with honest people and I’m sure you do as well, especially with dry cleaning. An honest business wouldn’t do this to their customer I’ll be happy to update this post if anything changes.

I’ve never tried their dry cleaning or laundry services but for tailoring, they’re adequate. Good enough for shortening pant legs and fixing minor things. For true alterations, you really want to go to a legitimate tailor, not this place.

They are wonderful here. Very reasonable for laundry($ 1/lb), very diligent about getting stains out on dry cleaning, and I really love the ease of using them to tailor as well. I tend to get most items tailored to fit me just perfect for work and their seamstress works with me and explains where certain alterations would limit my movement. They also pick up and deliver for free which has made my life so much easier, not having to come in to check in, particularly since I usually don’t return from work until after they have closed. Also, I had one difficult item dry-cleaned recently with a metal bib necklace sewn in, and they followed-up and called to inform me that a piece of the necklace was missing, and that they would have to remove it and re-attach after in the same way in order to clean the dress. I find them to be wonderfully reliable.

Unfortunately I’m going to have to revise my original review and drop the rating down to 3 stars. The last time I was in here, on a Thursday, I needed a pair of pants and a hat cleaned. They told me to come back on Monday. A bit later than I expected or wanted(Saturday after 5pm is reasonable and par for the course). I returned Monday afternoon, and after searching around for a bit, they told me the cleaning wasn’t done and I’d need to come back tomorrow. Since the hat wasn’t mine and I needed to return it to someone, I returned the next morning, and it still wasn’t done. I had to return for a third time that afternoon before they finally finished. Timeliness is everything! There was no reason for me to go back 3 times to try to pick my clothing up. Just let me know when to reasonably expect it.

I am not sure whese great reviews come from. The prices at the cleaners are more than double of what reviewers cited and friendliness is a whole nother story. I’d def. recommend to pass as you can pay just as much(literally) elsewhere but have a better experience.

they are very reliable and launder pants and shirts very quickly. I tried a few others in the neighborhood and found muray to be the best. The others never deliver on the day they promised.
