New York 1 News

Though its a Time Warner corporate news outlet (I say that because corporate news is severely bias and politically motivated to keep viewers from forms of real investigative data, empowerment and development), it has one of the best, well-​organized segments of any news broadcast. It concentrates on New York City (in its entirety) news better than the ‘News 12′ outlets that have a per borough format.
It gives you ‘New Yorkers of the Week’, great Tech News (very important for me) and even better weather predictions than other broadcasts. Unlike many News 12 anchors, that should be sent to public speaking class on account of the massive speech errors they make, NY1 gives clear and concise readings. In fact, they read the newspapers for you, everyday. Not to mention they carry almost every parade, especially the Halloween Greenwich Village Parade (and participate in them).
If your going to look at New York based News broadcast for any reason, this is the place to get your most accurate coverage. I’m not saying everything they say is correct but as close as you can get without getting overly detailed and boring.

In 2001, TWC began offering NY1 to digital-​cable subscribers in the Albany, New York, market, with other markets following soon thereafter.
In January 2002, the station moved to a new, all-​digital facility on the 6^th floor at Chelsea Market, 75 Ninth Avenue (between West 15^th-​16^th Streets) in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan.
On June 30, 2003, NY1 Noticias, a Spanish-​language version of the channel, began operating for digital-​cable subscribers.
In late 2005, NY1 launched a video-​on-​demand service for its TWC customers. NY1 on Demand is on Channel 1110 in the TWC-​New York City system.
In 2008, NY1 launched a high-​definition channel on Channel 701, although it was aired only in a pillarbox format (i.e., 4:3 aspect ratio picture with side pillars of NY1 logo) until migrating to a full 16:9 aspect ratio in October 2009.

Episodes of the drama series The Sopranos (1999 – 2007) feature NY1 television reporters and anchors.
The situation-​comedy series How I Met Your Mother (since 2005) features character Robin Scherbatsky as an NY1 reporter, although the show brands it «Metro News 1». The character formerly co-​anchored the network with Sandy Rivers, who reads from the newspaper much like NY1’s Pat Kiernan.
In an episode of the situation-​comedy series of 30 Rock (since 2006), the character Liz Lemon mentions that one of her fears is having her picture shown on NY1 after dying alone in her apartment.
NY1 has a segment called New Yorker of the week.
New Yorker of the week is sent in by viewers and then NY 1 chooses 1 of those submissions. It is usually someone who uses their own money and ingenuity to help others.

I do not watch news that is not really news but lies or slanted stories. One major news station aired a story about me which was not true on any level and never retracted the story though the famous anchor married to a TV host of a trash TV show was fired for not doing research on the story. But it was not just the lies about me they were many other stories that she did that with so she was fired. It had nothing to do with me but a public outcry got her fired for the trash she called news. NY1 is maybe the most popular news station in the country. Ny1 didn’t air the scandalous untrue story about me. Because of that I only watch NY1.

Ah NY1. Every New Yorkers go to spot for news, weather, the latest, greatest — you name it.
Being in SF for a few months, I never really got into their local news channel. I just watched the Today Show and looked for what the local stuff is. Now that I’m back I feel home with NY 1. It’s part of New York.

I grew up watching this channel, and when I lost it due to Satellite tv… well I felt like I never knew what time it was or what the weather was like outside. I mean I could invest in a clock or go for a walk… but thats crazy talk.
They do have a great collection of some of the most odd looking news anchors in the history of television.
It is like some land of media misfit reporters. An odd bunch indeed.
But since I got cable back last year, I must say I do enjoy knowing my weather on the 1’s and what’s in the papers, without actually buying one.

I’m kinda amazed I’m the first one writing a review for the incomparable, unbeatable, absolutely essential NY1.*
Am I the only one that turns it on first thing in the morning to catch ‘Weather on the 1s’ whilst brushing my teeth so I can lay out my outfit for the day? Am I the only one that thinks Roger Clark tells kinda to really bad jokes but still finds him amusing? Am I the only one who gets my daily dose of headlines from ‘In the News’ so I can actually sound like, you know, smart? Am I the only one that falls asleep at night to ‘News at 11′?
Huh, am I? I don’t think so.
*OK, I am dinging them 1 star because they still use Zagat’s. Now what, my friends, is up with that?!
