Prospective clients beware!!!
I called to find out if there were any specials to join. No problem… front desk puts me on hold and someone picks right up. «You looking to join one club or more than one clue». I’m not sure and say so — she then says «one club $ 39.99, passport $ 44.95». I state «I guess you’re no longer offering a promotion I saw a month ago». She says no and before I could even get my next question out, hangs up the phone.
Maybe business is that good that they don’t need the additional clients but I have to say this was one of the rudest customer experiences I’ve ever had. No questions asked or answered. As a former member and current member of two other gyms trying to diversify my workouts, this is VERY discouraging.

I have been a member of NYSC for almost four years, been going to this location for about three years and like it here. It’s nice and clean; front desk staff is always friendly and very welcoming. There is an upstairs and downstairs. Although it’s right by Time squares and it can get crowded during busy hours, they’re enough equipment and machines for everyone to use without wait time. Trainers here are helpful and outgoing. I been trained by two trainers before and they give great tips for a better workout routines.

Been training here over a month and no complaints. Front desk employees are friendly and stop to talk with them on a regular basis. Big cardio area on main floor then free weights on second floor. Could use one more squat rack.

NYSC’s this location is not what I have been expected.
1. Front desk is not friendly and never says «bye», «have a good day» or «enjoy your workout» like other locations.
2. Equipments are laying down everywhere. I don’t know if they prepare them for next day.
3. They turns off the music 30 – 45 mins before closes the club.
4. Bathroom is not clean. Papers are messing around. Im not sure if they do care about hygiene.
5. Air conditioning is off — correction ‘always’. You gotta sweat there without working out even lol
Other things you can see after you visit.
Overall I’m not satisfied of this location. I have no idea how come this location is staying open in middle of the city.
I do not recommend this location who is looking for clean, comfort level of the temperature to workout and professional service. Also this location is not worthy paying $ 89 for monthly.

Decent gym. Nothing fancy, but everything is very clean and well taken care of. Staff is nice for the most part, especially my Boo at the front desk, Beautiful! Love her. A drawback: Paying $ 2 for each towel is a joke. But alas, what can you do (other than bring your own, taking up more space in your gym bag)?! Its worth mentioning that if you plan your timing well, you can get a good workout in with little to no crowds, which is amazing for any busy New Yorker.

Just got my wallet stolen from there today. Lost my engagement ring that was inside it. Don’t trust people there. My locker was broken into within 15 minutes of being there.

Come here in the morning before work and it gets the job done. The current woman working the front desk in the early mornings is super sweet!

Quite possibly the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I cancelled my membership in February and they have been trying to charge me membership fees ever since. It is now June and they still have not properly closed my account after repeated phone calls and emails. The staff is rude and the manager will not even get on the phone to speak with me. Whatever you do, do not become a member of NYSC in general, let alone this location.

Not too bad of a place. They give you towels when you walk in and greet you nicely. A machine was poorly maintained, and after mentioning it to them it was fixed by the next time I went. It gets pretty hot in there though. Perhaps keep the temperature a little lower.

If I could give negative 5 stars, I would. This place has rude and uninterested staff with abysmal customer service. First of all, I went in three separate times (different times of day AND day of week) to sign up to be a member and each time there was no manager present. A manager should be there at all times. After being inconvenienced multiple times, I finally got face time with someone, and they didn’t know what they were talking about. Scatter-​brained, had to ask for help from another coworker, couldn’t answer my questions, had little sympathy for the fact that I had been inconvenienced up til then. Should have been a red flag. About a week later, after having been to the gym 2 or 3 times, the lady (the only nice, understanding staffer) lets me know what my membership does not include towel service, even though people have been giving me towels up til then. At no point during my registration meeting did the incompetent staff member mention this. This is wildly unprofessional and my guess is somehow illegal — a member should know the full scope of their financial responsibilities from the get-​go. Nowhere was it made clear in the paperwork that I signed or conversations I had was this mentioned. It was not suggested that I sign up for a different level of membership. My options were not presented to me clearly. And of course each time I wanted to talk to a manager about it, there was not one to be found. I asked to have one call me, and nobody did. I finally talked to them this morning TWO WEEKS LATER and they were rude, dismissive, and did not seem to understand the error in their ways.
I ONLY use this gym to shower before work — I go to a wonderful gym with the best community and customer service nearby before and its only downfall is lack of showers. I am enormously disappointed in each staff member’s lack of tact at this NYSC… their lack of respect, lack of professionalism, and knowledge of when the customer is right. I have to stick here because I don’t have another option but I warn you against it.

You’ve got to be kidding me! NYSC use to be decent and well-​priced but they have no entered the market of discount gyms with their new pricing structure and, as such, there are MUCH better options (even ones nearby). I have been a long time member – but their complete disregard to customer service means it is time to move on!

I’ve been working out for years, please read before you consider joining. Major issues with Town Sports and this location.
* Fitness Manager and personal trainer fired and I was still billed for training sessions that I didn’t/could never receive due to his firing, still billed and never received sessions. Still charged for PT sessions after I switched to regular member status.
* Unclear & Misleading contract explanations for personal training membership dues and fees (told me contact was cancel anytime… after 6 moths, they forgot that bit of info)
* Had to cancel debit card twice after continuous over billing.
* Tried to cancel account 5 times (11÷14−1÷15) only just canceled recently.
* EXTORTION: Was informed that I could only cancel if I paid bill (hadn’t used gym was actively trying to cancel, kept charging me anyway) Unless I paid them I would keep getting charged.
Avoid Town Sports at all cost, they are more of a legal entity, zero customer service or care for clientele, not really a Gym/​fitness organization.
I’ve called the BBB and I’m starting an active case for over billing.

The worst of their clubs! Constant changing managers. No enough benches in locker room. Laundry service unreliable (show up with nothing to wear). Workout areas a mess. Can’t find weights because scattered all over. Staff friendly. Last manger (there maybe 3 months) completely ineffective. Then they increase the rate without notifying you. If someone else opens nearby, I am out of there. Join only if you have to. Former complaints go into the void.

I got bitten to pieces here by … fleas? It was so bad I went to my doctor because I was afraid it was MRSA. No, some kind of bug bites, he said. I suspect it was while I was stretching and doing abs on the mats on the 2^nd floor.
I sent an email thru the NYSC web site but got no answer. So be forewarned. I have a passport membership, so I’ll be avoiding this location, even though it’s steps from my office.

Not enough weight, all out of order they are never put back where they should be. The place is not very clean, they I have towel service which is nice. Just seems like they stuffed what they could in and just let it go. It is very frustrating when you just want to work out not Hibernian stuff. Have never seen any staff cleaning. Very sub par for more than 10 – 20 bucks a month! They also do not have WIFI, come on even Planet Fitness has WiFi and is more organized and cleaner.

After the reading the reviews, I realize I should have read them BEFORE I joined. The negative ones are are so true. I made the mistake of joining and I agree they are crooks here. The sales team, aka unethical scumbag, will tell you anything/​bogus information and rates saying he will «take care of it and switch it to a lower rate once you sign up» to get you to sign up. Then when you have a question or issue about the incorrect billing they become elusive. The front desk girl screens their phone calls so they never have to talk to you again unless you go in in person and confront them. Even the «Customer Service Manager» (ironic name because she’s a joke as well) does the same thing: says whatever it takes to pacify you in person, but never returns emails or phone messages. It’s laughable that this is what these people have to do to make a living, but hey, I guess when times are tough…
So if you have the choice, save yourself the headache and just join somewhere else, Anywhere else.

This is the closest NYSC to my apartment, and that’s the only reason I’d ever really go to it. It’s totally fine, but if this was the only NYSC I went to, I’d probably be looking for a different gym.
The cardio machines are rarely crowded, though they’re often in need of repair, especially the bikes. The free weights section is fairly small and often kind of crowded, though machines often aren’t too bad. I haven’t experienced any problems with the locker room, though there are some members who could use some etiquette in terms of towel usage.
I had to get a gym usage report (proving to my insurance company that I’m getting my money’s worth), and the woman at the front desk was so incredibly unhelpful that I wanted to scream. She told me that she didn’t have time to print the report that day, but she might be able to get it done in the next few days, and then immediately took a personal phone call after I left.
I don’t resent that this is my neighborhood gym, I guess, but I’d certainly prefer a different one. It gets the job done, though.

Probably the worst location I’ve been to.
They are very short on cardio equipment. I didn’t even see resistance machines. The weight room was packed on a Monday morning at 8am. But the worst of all is the ladies locker room.
As I was taking a shower I had the pleasure of hearing an old Asian woman coughing and hacking up god-​knows-​what. The hot water must have loosened it up and she just went to town. Then when I was done and starting to get ready: hair, make-​up clothes, there is no room or benches. There was probably no more than 10 people in the locker room but somehow there was no room.
This location needs to clean up their act, you’re better off heading to the location on Broadway and 46^th (it’s far nicer, although can get crowded).

WHAT SCUMBAGS!
They will find ways to charge you for things you don’t sign up for and make it impossible to cancel. I’ve been on the phone for 25 minutes and counting just to cancel.
STAY FAR, FAR AWAY. Seriously, they are all crooks!!!
Join Crunch on 38^th SAME PRICE!
I can’t believe I quit there for this crap gym.

This location is marginally better than the one on 38^th and Broadway. The layout is a little confusing at first, but makes a lot of sense. There are also mirrors everywhere you look (I’m not kidding), so you can watch yourself work out on most machines (if you’re into that).
Of course, they’re strapped for space, so there aren’t too many redundancies in the weight machines. Be prepared to wait.
Speaking of weight, the free weight area is actually not a bad size. Things are spaced out, but there were some issues with the equipment. There was an incline bench with the adjustment knob broken off. There’s also a upright seat which was a little bit too low for my tastes, and you could also see that people had stuck gum to it.
And I know you’re not supposed to stare, but the girls at this location are much better looking than the one on 38^th.
