Nunzio Saviano Salon

I am quite happy with my hair color and subsequent blow out at this chic salon in UES. That is a rave by me because it takes a while to find the right colorist in NYC. Stephanie, a color genius, listens and gets it right the first time and every time after.

Recently I got the pleasure of visiting Nunzio’s salon for the digital wave treatment. As with any perm, I was initially worried about coming out with «cord» looking curls, and that did not happen at all! The body of my hair was totally natural looking. The process was quick and easy, and the best part was that it didn’t damage my hair. It has stayed soft and the waves are loose and add volume without frizz. Everyone at the salon was very welcoming, and Jean, my hair stylist was friendly and professional. Love talking with Jean who gladly explained my curiosity on the whole process. Nunzio is very sweet and kind, treated my hair gently with great technique. I completely recommend it for anyone that would like to add some subtle «oomph» to their hair.

I used Tiffany for the first time. I asked her to please give me a natural baby blonde and enough contrast so I am not a slave to roots in two weeks. My words fell on deaf ears. She went so heavy with highlights that the top was lighter than the bottom. I called back next day to see if she can add more low lights to break it up and she told the receptionist it would be another charge!!! Her highlights are extremely expensive. $ 300 dollars regardless of a full head or half a head. She was unfriendly, impolite and clearly a rip off. Her highlights are not impressive. The color was dull, not bright and extremely disappointing. I do not advise anyone to go there. Very over priced and over rated salon. And to boot, Nunzio (the owner) was extremely unfriendly and miserable looking and the girls there are vacuous and almost dead like in personality. Very draining and negative environment. Done with this salon.

Please don’t go to this salon. The following is my story which was written in a letter to Nunzio. It has gone unanswered as did my phone call. After another phone call I was told they would do nothing for me.
Dear Nunzio,
I hope you had a lovely vacation. I trust you are back at work by now, so I thought it was time that you received my letter.
Last December, while discussing my hair and face shape with my daughter-​in-​law, she suggested I go to Nunzio Saviano who is known to be the «best of the best» for helping decide which haircut is best for one’s face shape and lifestyle. You see, I am having a big birthday (60^th) this year and I wanted to have a professional opinion in regard to my changing (well, let’s say aging) face.
I live in Naples, Florida, however, I knew I would be visiting my mother over the summer in Spring Lake, NJ and I could get to NYC from there. At that time, I decided to begin the process of growing out my hair so you could have a «blank canvas» to work on.
After 7 months of growing out my hair I called to make an appointment with you. Your appointment manager informed me that you were going on vacation August 21^st and that I could book an appointment on August 20^th. I booked it for 12:30 and was told that to hold the date I had to give a credit card number, which I did. He asked for my phone number which I gave to him.
With great excitement I continued to grow out my hair and count the days until my visit with you. When the day finally arrived, I boarded two trains, one subway, and walked many blocks to get to your salon. Imagine my disappointment when I walked in to find that you had left early for your vacation and I was not notified. I was angry and hurt. The young woman at the front desk didn’t know what to do with me. She then escorted me upstairs to a pleasant «Jr.Technician», Maria who was patient and talented. Although she treated me kindly and cut my hair, that is not the point. She does not have your expertise. She is not billed as an expert in deciding hairstyles for all face shapes. She is not the «best of the best».
I left happier than when I came in, but my hair is really not right for me. It is too long and really does nothing for me. I must say that I should NEVER have been charged for my haircut with Maria. I paid because I didn’t want to stiff her. The mistake was not hers. It was your appointment manager’s fault which ultimately is your problem.
I would like a refund for the $ 90 I paid to Maria. Her tip of $ 20 should come out of your pocket. You should also pay for my train and subway fare.
Most of all, you should teach your appointment manager to do a better job and train his replacement how to handle problems correctly in his absence.
Funny how you asked for a credit card to hold my appointment, but I had nothing to ensure your presence for my haircut. Wrong on all counts.

I finally know what a good hair cut feels like. I came in looking for a change and new look and Nunzio asked me to trust him and I’m glad I did. after he cut off 5 inches of hair i felt like a new women. his asst gave me one of the best blow drys and also showed me new ways to style my hair. I’ve never felt so comfortable in a salon than this one. i found my holy grail.

Nunzio gives amazing haircuts and is a pleasure to be around. He is classy and kind, and takes his work and his clients seriously. Other people working at the salon are also great — Jake and Jennifer downstairs, and Maria, Anna and Jean. Haircuts with Nunzio are a good investment into how you look and feel.

I went to Nunzio for the first time and have to say I love it. It doesn’t look like a place that just takes in customer after customer like a factory nor is it overly expensive. Maria listened to everything I wanted and had such a great attitude. Going to go a few more times before I make a decision but this place could potentially be my go-​to salon.

I follow nunzio wherever he lands. He is phenomenal. Honest and trusting unlike other stylists he stays true and does not bad mouth other stylists. He does not try to steal business away from others. His work speaks for itself. He cares for each client no matter their status in society and came to my house on a sunday to do my hair for my wedding even though it was his only time with his family. His Wife is a gem who was very understanding and supportive of my day. I could not ask for better and he is a true keeper. Loyalty is hard to find and he is one if not the only one left.

I had a wonderful experience: perfect short haircut by Nunzio; perfect color by Stephanie.
Everyone was polite, welcoming, and helpful.
The salon is small, quiet, light and lovely.

AMAZING does not even begin to describe Nunzio’s skill and talent! I have been seeing him religiously for almost a year now and he has totally transformed my hair into something that I now love to wear. He is meticulous, precise, thoughtful, and an overall pleasure to be around.
I had a really awful pixie shortly after my daughter was born and I absolutely hated from the start. I decided early on to grow it out and went back to the stylist who cut it. He told me to «go away for 6 months and just let it grow in. Learn to wear hats or headbands. They can be so cute.»
I felt so uncomfortable with my hair that I knew I just had to do something. I was referred to Nunzio and since my first visit with him, I will never see anyone else. I visit his salon every 10 weeks to have my hair shaped and gently trimmed and the growth has been unbelievable. My hair is now at my shoulders and we are going to let it grow to the right length for me.
Because my hair style is constantly changing as the layers are growing out, Nunzio treats me like a special and new client each and every time. He takes the time to analyze my hair shape and texture and talks with me about my expectations before he does anything. His assistants are all incredible and the massage with the shampoo is super relaxing. Nunzio then cuts my hair wet and reevaluates it after it is dry to make his final finishing touches. I left yesterday feeling fabulous and can’t wait until my next visit.
I highly recommend him and encourage anyone who cares about his/​her hair to make an appointment! He is truly THE BEST!

Nunzio is BY FAR the BEST stylist in NYC. Not only does he give the best haircut, the salon is beautiful and the staff is so friendly and accommodating! I came in with a botched haircut and Nunzio completely fixed my hair and took the extra time to show me how to properly style it. Everyday my hair looks better and better thanks to Nunzio! Nunzio was recommended by a friend. Located on the UES in an area with top designer stores, I thought Nunzio must be a very high-​end salon. It was easy to get an appointment. I walked in, and explained my problem areas to Nunzio. He listened to me and seemed to really get what I wanted. Then began the haircut. A lot was taken off, which I was fine with. When my hair was done, I still had the problem areas that I had come to the salon for. I told Nunzio as much, he asked me to trust him. Umm ok. He told me that there were just two options to remove my problem areas and neither of them would look good. Maybe I should try some products. This after a $ 250 haircut, no thanks. I told him I need to go home and see how my hair stands up. Nunzio shook my hand and I was dismissed. I left the salon hating my hair. I waited for it to grow. I cannot believe that even after spending $$$ my hair looks exactly like I came in, just shorter. What is the point of a $ 250 haircut if I have to resort to products to make my hairstyle look good? I don’t have bad hair, just some problem areas that need to be resolved with a good haircut, a hairstylist who knows what will look good on the face. I wasn’t too impressed with Nunzio, and will try other salons. My dear husband didn’t think it was that bad, but he didn’t think my hair was bad even when I had the worst haircut of my life, I guess time to get his eyes checked!

Go to Tiffanie for color. She is the best, and can do no wrong! She is great at listening to what you want while also giving helpful suggestions. She is also incredibly nice!

I’m a beauty editor, so I’ve had my hair done by the top experts in the city. The team of Nunzio and Stephanie is unmatched. Stephanie highlighted my naturally brown to blonde (non-​brassy) perfection, and continues to do so. I can’t say enough about how talented she is, for she really listened and produced the exact result I had hoped for (after many others have tried and failed – highlights are a grey area.) Nunzio gave my long hair a beautiful shape and cut the most adorable bangs. I can go anywhere, and I’ll continue to go Nunzio’s salon.

I have been getting my hair cut by Nunzio for about a year now. He has tremendous talent– really! He has a great eye and has helped me change my look gradually, his cuts always grow out nicely. He listens and then considers how ideas I suggest will translate into the cut, he also wieghs in on his position and I feel very comfortable with this process.

I am a big fan. Nunzio and Stephanie are great. It is expensive though.

Nunzio has been styling my hair for the past 5 years, and I’m so happy that he now has his own salon. It’s a two-​level space in a beautiful brownstone on the Upper East Side, with plenty of natural light and simple, modern furnishings. The atmosphere is calm and stylish, personal but not high-​pressure.
I’ve stayed with Nunzio this long (longer than any other stylist I’ve known!) because he’s the first stylist who has really taken the time to understand my hair and he has given me consistently excellent cuts. My shoulder-​length hair is a strange mix of curly and wavy textures, and it’s apparently a challenge to cut, judging by all the bad results I’ve had over the years. Nunzio was the first person to suggest that I come to my first appointment with my hair air-​dried and free of any styling product, so that he could really examine it in its natural state. He figured it out like a puzzle and came up with a cut that seamlessly merges its various sections while enhancing its volume and curl formation.
Have you ever had that feeling after a haircut that you can’t wait to get home, wash out all the products, and see what you really ended up with when you style it on your own? I’ve never had that feeling since I’ve been going to Nunzio. I always leave with my hair looking its best, yet the cut is so well-​designed that I don’t have any trouble maintaining it on my own… and it still looks good weeks later.
Nunzio also happens to be a kind and charming person as well as a top-​notch professional, which is an added bonus.
So, obviously: very highly recommended!

I have had 3 cuts so far by Nunzio. The third was in his new salon and by far the best yet! The salon is beautiful and in a townhouse. It has a non-​stressful environment in a convenient UES location. I am planning to have my color done by Stephanie soon. So happy to have found Nunzio recently and get out of the hair rut I had been in :-)

Serene and light atmosphere in a very convenient spot! Came here for color with Stephanie and enjoyed the calm, personal environment more than even some of higher end salons in the area. Stephanie is a true artist when it comes to color– every time! Sarah gave me an amazing blow-​out as well. I left looking beachy and beautiful.
Would highly recommend Stephanie to anyone looking to get exactly the shade they have been searching for!

Have been going to Nunzio for my haircuts for a few years now. Just saw him a few days ago and he gave me a lovely pixie. He always makes me feel glamorous. No cookie haircuts here. Nunzio knows exactly what hairstyle looks best on me and has never failed. My hair grows out smoothly as well and always seems to look fresh. Always get raving compliments as soon as I leave the salon and at work too. Thank you, Nunzio!
