I was recommended to John through a friend and I could not be happier with the work he did on making my engagement ring. John worked with me on picking the stone and on designing the setting. He suggested I look at some rings and see what I liked. When I came to John with my design idea he was incredibly helpful and made many suggestions on how to make the ring look spectacular. The finished product was a gorgeous emerald cut diamond in a split shank setting with a halo of diamonds around the center stone and down the sides of the ring itself. John is truly an artist and I am thrilled with the end result.

We continue to be completely blown away by John’s work! Recently he designed an engagement ring for my brother-​in-​law and a tennis bracelet for me. Both items were exactly what we wanted and beyond. I cannot say enough great things about this company!

My fiancé went to John because he was highly recommended from a close friend. My fiancé had John create a custom engagement ring for me. It’s absolutely stunning! The diamonds are gorgeous and crazy sparkly! My fiancé dealt with John mostly, he had been to see him multiple times as he originally purchased an antique ring John had and then decided he’d rather have something custom made with brand new stones and all. John happily took on the project to create something brand new and worked with my fiancé until he was content with the finished product (which didn’t take long as John is an expert craftsman). I did go in and meet with him to have the ring re sized and he was so friendly and personable. He really knows his stuff and hooked my fiancé up with a great price for an exquisite ring! He even had it appraised for us while we had lunch. We will most certainly be going back to him to make our wedding bands when the time comes! Highly recommend him, he knows his stuff, is extremely honest and trustworthy. You don’t want to get fooled by the shops in the diamond district, go directly to OIS.

John is the man! I originally approached him to create a custome ring for my girlfriends birthday. Brenda was given a ring when she was 5 for being a flower girl. I though it would be sweet to have it remade so she could wear it again. He could tell I obviously loved her and asked if I wanted to marry her. I affirmatively nodded and the project changed course. He took his time to show me several designs went over various diamond cuts, looked at different stones under magnification and gave me the crash course in engagement ring shopping.
I sat with him for several hours and never felt pressure. I couldn’t make up my mind and John encouraged me to take her ring shopping.
What an experience. Who knew there were so many choices. After the fourth outing and probably around the 45^th ring she tried on. She put one particular ring on six times. I asked if that was the one. She said she liked the design except the stone sat too low and wasn’t nuts about the halo.
I went back to John and we discussed the situation… Brenda wanted a unique ring. Showed him what she liked and didn’t like and he came up with this design.
It’s absolutely stunning. I couldn’t believe it myself. When I opened the box a tear ran down my cheek… I was blown away. I did a great thing… I picked the right jeweler.

I recently entrusted OSI to resize a family heirloom hundred year old platinum engagement ring. This is obviously the kind of repair I didn’t want to leave to just anyone and the other Unilocal reviews helped me make the right decision. The work was perfect. There is absolutely no visible signs of modification. I found John to be honest, straightforward and nice to deal with. I would recommend him highly.

John helped my Fiancé create the most beautiful engagement ring I could have possibly imagined. The attention to detail down to the last stone is just amazing. The split band has tiny pave stones and he even completed the look by adding a few larger diamonds where the split meets at the bottom. I couldn’t be happier and can’t wait to see what he comes up with for our wedding bands.

I was referred to John by an appraiser I met in the Diamond District who had to break the news to me that the diamond in my grandmother’s ring was chipped and needed to be recut. He told me that John was the guy HE went to when HE needed to build his ring — he gave me his number and told me to look him up.
I went to John without a clear idea of what I wanted to do (I was intent on surprising my girlfriend) — all I knew was that I wanted to recut my grandmother’s diamond and build a ring from scratch.
Working with John was an incredible experience. He did an amazing job recutting the diamond, and making me feel confident and assured through this process. And then he worked with me every step of the way to design a great ring, melting down the gold from my grandmother’s ring and using it to make a new ring of our own design — which gave it an extra sentimental value.
He was incredibly patient and generous with his time, putting up with my frequent visits and endless tweaking. He has a real passion for his work and helped me learn about about the process of making a ring and the world of diamonds, which is a world that most guys setting out to buy an engagement ring don’t know much about. I feel like I got a whole education on the jewelry business in the process.
And most importantly he made me a beautiful ring. His level craftsmanship, artistry and attention to detail is incredibly high. And throughout it all he was committed to making sure I was 100% satisfied with the ring we designed.
Designing a ring can be a stressful experience — it’s the symbol of a very big decision. If you are looking for someone to help you in this endeavor and you want someone who is going to bring real passion to the project, I can’t recommend John highly enough.

John is a rare find in the Diamond District and was referred to me by a reputable friend in the business to design an engagement ring for my fiancée. I trusted him with a meaningful jewel that was passed down in my family. I presented him with a couple designs, which he turned into an absolutely stunning reality. He was kind, knowledgable and clearly an experienced veteran (he also works quickly and abides by a deadline). All of our friends and family were more than impressed with the custom design and we will truly cherish it forever.
IMPORTANT: It is easy to get sucked into the many retail shops downstairs in the Diamond District, but the right thing to do is find someone who you trust and who can be honest with you. I wholeheartedly recommend John for any project where precious and expensive stones are involved.

John is incredibly talented and a really trustworthy guy — plus he has great taste. He made my engagement ring and a necklace with my husband’s grandmother’s stone. Both came out so beautiful. He does all of his work by hand and the workmanship is incredible. He has also fixed a bracelet for me that 2 other jewelers couldn’t fix properly. I have used Unilocal for years, however I have never felt the need to comment, frankly I am just lazy. I took the time and created this profile so I could recommend this business. Also, I usually disregard any glowing reviews and focus on the bad ones but there is a reason John has no bad reviews.
I went to John with several questions about the vintage engagement ring I had (nearly blindly) purchased, he answered them all and was very patient with me.
He ended up flawlessly fixing an imperfection in the platinum setting and polishing it while I waited, plus I got to watch the process which I found very fascinating.
We will definitely go back to John for the resizing… well I guess that’s if she says yes.
