The cards are beautiful. The nicknacks are adorable. The wrapping paper is quality. However— the stuff is terribly overpriced. I always feel ripped off when I leave there. I needed a card for 90 year woman, I ended up paying $ 9 for card! I just feel stupid.

I went there yesterday — and although it’s probably the smallest Papyrus store I’ve ever been to, they have a great selection of(beautiful) cards. They also have a very attractive window display, which is what drew me into the store. And, the two women working there were pleasant.

I usually pick up a card for someone’s birthday at Duane Reade or a CVS, I’m just not into cards that much. But I go out of the way for my mom and sister whenever their birthdays or Mother’s Day comes around. Which leads me to Papyrus — a store worth searching for. There’s only a few locations I know about — one I used to frequent in midtown when I worked there. Now that I’m in the financial district it was great to see a Papyrus located right on Broadway! I have shopped at this location on a few occasions, most recently for my mom’s birthday, picking up a beautiful card for her from their great selection. The woman working there was very pleasant and helpful. I’m terrible remembering names so I already forgot it. But a great experience as always and the reason I will continue to shop at Papyrus for a special card for a special person.

Sympathy cards seem to come in two flavors here: either stark and religious, or blingy. If you’re looking for something agnostic yet tasteful, look elsewhere.

The hidden Manhattan Papyrus, amidst the busy neighborhood of Financial District! Nice selection and beautiful products. Well worth the price.

I always, always get the best deals here. Yes the cards are incredibly beautiful and overpriced… so I never get them… but the rest of the stuff can be purchased at a substantial discount if you just stalk the place! I visit as often as a can and stake the place out until I can get the 50% off discount price. Hey, a girls gotta live and I can do it on a budget!

Growing up in suburban Bombay, you are taught to sniff out deals that give you maximum ‘paisa vasool’ — value for money, not to be confused with a Bollywood movie by that name, or the more universally familiar trait of miserliness. So it is no surprise that young Indian couples, with their visiting parents in tow, are seen at Honda dealerships in far-flung U.S. suburbs, inspecting the sticker price on the T-1 year’s Civic sedan, with an eye for resale value and repair record, not as much the visual appeal of the car and whether they would like being seen hot rodding around town in their reliable yet remarkably common vehicles. That’s ‘the car that sells itself’ as Honda prided itself in calling their pedestrian yet dependable creation. Papyrus on the other hand couldn’t be more different. Granted, the staff at the home of the ‘card that sells itself’ have little to do but work the register once you pick one or more of their products. But the cards and gifts at Papyrus are unique creations that are premium priced to reflect their one-of-a-kindness – my dear friend Roderick made a characteristically humorous reference in his review of this store. Do you want your loved ones to get a card with baby bibs printed on the front, to mark their new, even if unexpected, arrival? Or a puppy with a tiara to welcome their recent adoption? Or the card with flip flops pasted on it? All in delightful colors with fancifully worded messages or appropriately left blank for the DIY writers among us? Whatever the occasion, a retirement, a new home, an anniversary of the morbid or wholesome kind, or a simple Thank You, and whoever the recipient, your rich granduncle or impoverished little sister in college, there is a card at Papyrus that would do justice to the situation. Sure you could go to Kate’s Paperie if you are the artsy kind and like to browse around, or you could custom-order your holiday cards and invitations from Crane, right from the comfort of your UES home, but if you are on the lookout for a card, or a gift wrap, or other stationery of a unique kind, Papyrus cannot be beat. The staff are friendly, unlike the Honda salespeople, but quite redundant in comparision to their unique products that are priced with pride.

I just totally LOVE spending $ 5.00 on a birthday card that will cheer someone up for about 30 seconds. It is a nice place to browse, and the employee working there was very helpful and very friendly. Still does not justify the high prices, though.
