History

Established in 2012.

Nina grew up in a retreat environment in Todos Santos, BCS, Mexico, also splitting her time as a child in Seattle. When she moved to NYC, where Paraiso Adventures is headquartered, the business really took shape as an complete resource for wellness and adventure enthusiasts, people who are in search of a safe and fun travel experience. «I’ve always felt at home and comfortable on all of my travels. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunities life has presented me, for the people I have met, and for those who have brought me into their lives, families, and homes,» said Nina. Paraiso’s mission is to provide guests with the time and space necessary to witness the world in a whole new way, to live their dreams and push themselves beyond their comfort level.“I am always so impressed by the people that attend our retreats. Nina O.

Business Owner

Nina’s jetset life began even before she was born, when she was «made in Australia» by two extremely travel-savvy parents. «Their wish for me was a multicultural, multilingual life, rich in experiences, travel and relationships,» said Nina.

When Nina isn’t in Todos Santos, Mexico, she is globe trotting in search of the perfect paradise. Todos Santos is a small fishing village in southern Baja where she attended elementary school, learned Spanish, ran freely on deserted beaches, and developed a profound admiration for an organic life. Upon returning to the US to finish school, Nina soon realized how deeply the culture and lifestyle of Baja was ingrained in her soul.

Nina has a BA in Communication from CU Boulder, CO, and worked in Artist Relations for Live Nation right out of college until Paradise called her name. She also worked in luxury hospitality in the yacht industry in both Mexico and the Pacific Northwest, she also curated private events in the Los Cabo area.

I travel for a living and will attend yoga retreats around the world. After my experience with Nina and her professional staff in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica, I know have a new standard for retreats. Paraiso Adventures crafted the most amazing trip for our group. From beautiful beachfront accommodations, yoga classes with expert instructros, and fun and exciting excursions, which included surf lessons, hiking in Montezuma, an Afro dance class and yummy meals everyday, Paraiso thought of everything and executed each flawlessly. They also excel at customer service. Anytime I had a personal request, whether it was a massage or an afternoon of horseback riding, Nina and her local staff, coordinated the best vendors on my behalf.
I’m so excited to book my next retreat with them. I have my eye on Greece. I left Costa Rica with new friends, wonderful memories and feeling like I got more than my money’s worth. Brava Paraiso!!!

I love Nina and Paraiso Adventures! I own a Yoga studio and have worked with her closely, as Paraiso Adventures was our retreat host to Costa Rica in March of 2014. We worked together from the moment we started planning the retreat (about 8 months prior) to the moment the retreat ended. Nina and her Paraiso Adventures staff were always professional, prompt, accountable, friendly and take care of everyones needs and concerns, really like none other I have experienced before.
Being a Yoga Studio owner, I am very protective of my students, especially those going on retreat with me. There was no mistaking the fact that they were always taken care of by Nina, Paraiso Adventures, and her staff. I never had to worry. I can’t tell you how many times my students on the retreat came up to me to tell me how amazing the experience has been with Paraiso Adventures before we were even in Costa Rica! Months before the retreat even started, she was answering questions, concerns and making flight arrangements for all the guests and myself. Everyones arrangements and arrival/departure times were coordinated well, arriving at similar times and knowing exactly where to go and when to meet the driver (who was always prompt). There were 7 people on my retreat, and everyone was completely taken care of from the minute the stepped on Costa Rica soil to the moment they got off the plane in their homeland. When on retreat, being the Yoga teacher, I never felt like I was working. I was taken care of as if I was a guest too! Nina and her staff were all amazing. Laurie, was our on site coordinator and was so cute, friendly, happy and someone with incredible local insight. Lohana was our cook, a Costa Rica native, so friendly, outgoing and made the most delicious and healthy food I have ever had on vacation. We were never hungry, everything was always fresh and available whenever we needed anything. We even got fresh green smoothies and coconut water after every morning Yoga class + a decadent breakfast. I felt like I was always eating! All the excursions were exactly like advertised and way more fun than I could have expected. The location was perfection: Luxurious, clean, spacious, room for everyone to lounge and indulge always.
Another thing that was magical about our retreat was I have been going to Costa Rica every year for 23 years. Nina did such an amazing job, I felt like this was my first time visiting this Country. It was a completely different, fresh and luxurious experience here than I had ever had before. I was so satisfied and grateful for my experience with Paraiso Adventures, I could go on and on.
I have no idea what Kristine S, above is talking about with her experience, but mine and all my students who came on the retreat in Costa Rica had the time of their lives. In fact, I have signed up with Paraiso Adventures for the second time to do another retreat in Costa Rica with them, and multiple guests who were on the last retreat are coming again.

I had a much better than expected experience when attending one of Paraiso Adventures yoga retreats in Costa Rica. The accomodations were awesome, we did lots of outside adventures such as dance classes, surf lessons, hiking to waterfalls, beach excursions, shopping, and the list went on and on. I didn’t know anybody in the group when I went, and it was so well organized, I felt comfortable right away. It was truly the trip of a lifetime, and one I will remember forever. The group of people came from all over, and after the first day, Nina made us all feel so welcome and comfortable, it was as if we’d all been good friends forever! I am still in contact with several of the participants, and I know they all feel exactly the same as I do… Thank You Nina for such a wondedrfully, well organized adventure!!!
I’m not sure who the person was that wrote the bad review, but I think it must be a competitor, as she keeps referencing things that «were advertised»… she probably never even went on one of Nina’s trips!
Such an awesome trip, I’ve signed up for another next March!

There are a few times in life where new and interesting experiences are brought to your plate even when you think it might not be for you. I was lucky enough to have this happen to me this year when I attended a yoga retreat in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica with my yoga studio.
With Paraiso Adventures they took care of me from start to finish, I was in constant contact with Nina before the trip, she gave me any and all information that I might have needed and a little extra because I had never been to another country before. I was very grateful for that.
When I arrived in Costa Rica there was a bus waiting for me and another fellow yogini from our studio. They took us to a boat where it would ship us across a bay to yet another bus which was waiting for us. The bus ride to ST was the bumpiest ride of my life but it was all part of the experience and I’ll never forget it. I never once felt lost or in any danger because I knew I could trust Paraiso Adventures to take care of me.
The whole week was filled with activities from yoga (of course) hiking, surfing, napping, and pretty much whatever you wanted to do. Paraiso Adventures and the staff that was there made sure we all had an incredible time. I tried to do everything because I didn’t want to miss out on an opportunity to have a memory in that beautiful country. We had a private chef who made the most yummy and beautiful food I’ve ever seen! Thanks Lohanna!
In conclusion this was a trip to remember I made some amazing friends and memories and I couldn’t have done it without the help of Paraiso Adventures. Thank you so much Nina and the Pariso staff for a great trip and I will be using your services in the future.

Public Service Announcement:
Do you expect your getaway provider to be coordinated?
Do you also expect your getaway provider to take the initiative communicating important information to you in an accurate fashion?
Do you expect your getaway provider to deliver on what they marketed to you? In other words, do you expect to receive what you paid for?
If you answered «yes» to these questions, then Paraiso Adventures is definitely not for you.
I attended the «Italian Yoga Retreat» in Umbria September 8, 2013 — September 14, 2013, along with 10 other women. I’ll give Paraiso credit for choosing a beautiful villa in a beautiful location and for managing to market to a really great group of women. However, that’s all I will give Paraiso credit for.
From start to finish, coordination and communication between Paraiso staff (really, Paraiso’s founder, Nina Ornstein) and the guests was terrible. This included coordination of yoga classes, coordination of our airport transfers, and coordination of our other activities and excursions. That is, of course, if we got to go on the excursions we paid for.
A bike excursion, winery visit and a tour of the areas hot springs and castles were to be included in our trip. We never went on a bike excursion, nor did we ever visit any castles, and the full afternoon we were supposed to have at the hot springs was reduced to 30 minutes because of more poor planning by Paraiso and Nina.
We also paid for a cooking class. But it wasn’t a class. There was no instruction. We just watched the villa’s «chef», who doesn’t even speak English, cook. To top it all off, two of the items the cook prepared were bagged tortellini and packaged pesto.
I could provide countless examples of what Paraiso marketed the trip as providing but failed to deliver, but then this review would run on for pages. Just know that there was no «casual evening entertainment» each night (as marketed), nor were there three prepared meals per day (also as marketed). Oftentimes, we were served leftovers from meals before (yes, leftovers on vacation) and as the trip dwindled on there was barely enough food to feed the group at breakfast time.
Please keep in mind that I am not the type of person to complain about my negative experiences with restaurants, hotels, and the like. I’m the type of person who makes a mental note and simply doesn’t frequent the business again. In fact, I usually roll my eyes at family and friends who do complain. My experience with Nina Ornstein and Paraiso Adventures was so poor, I couldn’t bear to see anyone else go through what I went through. Please do yourself a favor: save your money and spare yourself from frustration, and do not book a trip with Paraiso Adventures.
One final note: I did email Nina to address my concerns about the trip. It’s been a week and counting, and still no response from her. I shouldn’t be surprised. She did tell one of the guests on our trip to «have a nice life» when the guest expressed her disappointment in the trip.

I had the time of my life in Costa Rica with Nina and Paraiso Adventures. I felt like I really got a good feel for the area and culture, and I made some really nice friends. I brought my mom with me and it could not have been more ideal with the mix of good food and healthy fun activities. We had some overdue quality time and I will never forget the memories we made on that trip! There is truly something for every kind of traveler on these retreats. I’m taking my mom to Italy in September and I’m going to Colombia in December – can’t wait!
